Incredible Adventures of the Softies in a 20-Year-Old Code World
Updated to Windows 11 24H2 and now your game crashes on launch? Well, thank Microsoft—they’ve once again decided that maintaining compatibility with old software is too much of a hassle. This time, they just yanked DirectSoundI3DL2ReverbDMO from the COM interfaces. That’s the reverb effect our game uses, and sadly, it doesn’t expect this kind of trickery and fails to check if the interface initialized properly. Luckily, some kind folks have already created a wrapper that translates DirectSound calls to OpenAL.

Here’s the link to it: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jOJ2Rmmbfuj_jWLGgvoHkeTsuhCtPLsn/view?usp=sharing

Just move all the files from the archive to the game’s root folder, and everything should work again. Don’t forget to set compatibility to Windows XP SP3 for a proper launch, and disabling full-screen optimization in the same settings won’t hurt either.

Glad to hear it's working for everyone. However, I'd still strongly recommend enabling Windows XP compatibility mode because of a bug with the trampolines :)

Works perfectly. I didn't enable Windows XP compatibility mode, but I did disable full-screen optimisations.
