By walking back after every dodge, you let your dodge meter reset, and the zombies seem to "reset" since they have to go back to their walking animation. This usually let's me do 3 punch + dodge+walk+2 punch+dodge+walk+2 punch+execute.
Some notes:
Dodge meter resets the same amount of time as a 3 hit punch or a dodge+walkback+2 hit punch, so latter is safer.
Hope that helps.
It does help in game play once we know the mechanics.
I was forced to learn as my 2nd run had bad weapon drop rates. Basically make sure you unequipped any weapons.
Strictly 1 V 1 and ensure no other zombies are nearby.
Punch rapidly 3 times. Watch Zombie strike animation. then [Dodge]
Punch another 2 times. Anticipate Zombie strike animation. Dodge.
Repeat while anticipating zombie strike animation. Sometimes you can straight go for kill after 2nd dodge.
