Introduction:

Hi everyone! I've created a guide on how to play Final Fantasy 12 in classic mode (PS2), the original version of the game. After introducing FF12 to my husband, we found out that Zodiac Age is less challenging than the original (really different from the original PS2 version). 😞 I decided to look for a mod that will restore the original PS2 version of the game (and the good news is.. it exists!)
*Sorry if there are grammar mistakes! English is my 2nd language. :)

Reasons why you should get the Classic Mode:

Nostalgia, of course! 😀
You find Zodiac Age less difficult
You haven't tried the original version of the game
Play the original version but in remastered version with quality of life improvements (2x speed, 4x speed)

Note: Classic Mode must be started via a New Game to work 100%. If you want to start with a mid-playthrough "non-Classic mode" save file you can use the feature in The Insurgent's Past's version of classic to restore all TZA data in that save file to PS2. Afterwards, you can install Classic Mode if you wish.

This mod should be fully compatible with graphics, audio, The Insurgent's mods, and Lua script mods.

This mod is not compatible with overhaul mods or other mods that edit files for gameplay elements (License Boards, items, stats, chests, etc.).unless it is done via lua script.

FAQ: Why are all cutscenes are playing at 4x speed?

Note: I added the FAQs at the start of the guide to avoid any headaches after installing the mod, feel free to skip these sections and jump back to it once you experience these issues during your playthrough.

If you experience this glitch on your original playthrough (Zodiac or Classic Version), modify these settings on your game:

The glitch is caused by the game's FPS limiter and the game (including cutscenes) plays at 4x speed by default.

Settings:

- Change it from FULLSCREEN to BORDERLESS mode
- Limit the game to 60 FPS

[GUIDE] Classic Mode installation: Step by Step

Part 1: Vortex Mod Manager

(The whole process takes less than 20 mins)

1. Install Vortex Mod Manager and follow the instructions on the webpage

2. In Vortex, select "Games" in the left sidebar. Search for Final Fantasy XII and select "Manage".

Note: If your FFXII game folder is not discovered automatically, you can find out where it's located by going to Steam > Library. Right click the game and select properties. Go to Local Files, then click "Browse...". The application will automatically write the path to the game.

3. Download and install FF12 External File Loader in Vortex. All the files are linked in the webpage here[www.nexusmods.com].

4. Download and install FF12 LUA LOADER in Vortex.

Note: MAKE SURE TO DEPLOY AND ENABLE the mods. If you are unsure how to do it, please refer to the image below.

Open Vortex App > Go to mods > Enable mods

Part 2: Classic Mode Installation

1) Download and install "The Insurgent's Past" in Vortex and select "The Zodiac Age" for ALL options in it's installer.

*Classic Mode already contains it's own mod files and only requires the LUA script of The Insurgent's Past.

2) Download and install Final Fantasy XII: Classic Mode in Vortex. Select your desired options from this installer.

Note: Make sure to start a new save. If anyone is interested, I can also provide a master save so you can skip the tutorial part of the game and save up to 5 hrs of gameplay.

I've read that there are extra licenses included in The Zodiac Age that aren't in the PS2 version. There are other mods that include those. Does this one include the new licenses or is it an exact 1:1 copy of the PS2 version?
