(Tips for challenging arts, or the ones I usually had trouble with) (sparks from/spark difficulty)

Arranged as they come in-game.

HA stands for HybridArts, which they are.
To clarify: spark works for me if it procc'd within about 10 to 15 minutes. YMMV.
I did not include Bighorn or Blue skellies from Ruins of Han'Nova as a source for sparks, since if you need the guide you are probably not really ready to face them.
Just in case you can spark about 3/4 of all weapon arts and most spells (incl. Song of Earth) during first visit of RoHN, but it will not be fast or easy.

For Spell Sparks anima is listed after the character who can learn it, you don't need to spam anima, one use is enough; however I highly recommend to limit anima usage to the one you want to learn.

Since this is important and might be confusing; I edited it a bit for clarity, but: some spells CANNOT be sparked during duels. You just need to use anima (like in party combat) and hope that end screen will bring you the "Wil learned Song of Earth!" message; a.k.a post-battle spark.
This can happen in both duel and party battle modes.

This was more of a simple notes I made while playing the game oh-so-long ago, with information taken from SaGa wiki and, of course, arcanelore and a lot of other places. Kudos to them.

Anima Spells
======================================================
AH YES THE SPELLS, I AM NOT BUTCHERING THE OG NAMES
======================================================

==========================================================================
ADDITIONAL MENTION, COMBOES WITH + IN THEM CANNOT SPARK DURING DUEL
(they can still be learned post-duel).

i.e:
You can pick Rich, duel Anima Ghoul (in Laubtower), use Tone once then kill the ghoul with bear crush and post duel Soul Hymn can be "learned".

It will probably take some time, as learning spells this way is more tiresome than simple sparking (since you have only 1 chance per battle - during the post battle rewards), so I would suggest either doing it in party battles (esp. since you can do multiple characters at once); just check again for who can actually learn the spell; unlike weapon arts spells can be only learned by specific characters (I wrote everyone who can acquire the spells), or to get some good weapon arts so you can use anima + 3 command to oneshot monster.

If I were to oversiplify it Spark is simply difficlulty of learning.
There is spark level of skills, spark level of characters and spark level of enemies.
So the higher spark level of skill is = the harder it is to learn (chance for it to work is lower)
The higher the monster spark level is = the easier it is to learn arts while attacking the monster (chance for skill to be learned on it is higher)
Spark level of characters is hard-coded and is relevant to spells and is simply a yes/no if character can learn it or no (for example you can try to learn Soul Hymn with Cordelia until the end of days but never will, because her flame spark does not reach SH spark difficulty). It also is relevant on how easy they will learn relevant school spells.
There is a formula somewhere, but I don't really want to bother looking it up, but main point is: if you want to learn art pick lowest spark requirement of the previous skill and fight monster with highest spark rating.

Can someone explain "Spark" to me? I've been playing this game since PSX, but I am still clueless on what exactly it is and how it triggers. I feel like I'm trying a little too hard to understand.
Kwigo 18 May @ 12:58pm
@Loli Thank you very much! I was able to spark it with the Dryad Grail!

Not sure if this is helpful information, but I managed to spark Fearless Triple in Duels with Rich against a Slayer in the Bug Megalith

Tao Motif or Dryad Grail makes you immune to Berserk's side effect, so it is the best option if you have access to either

Fantastic guide, thank you,

Anyone got any tips on learning Spectral Shot? I'm having a nightmare of a time learning it. I've been fighting Big Horns for hours, and every time I enter Beast + Beast + Beast + Quickshot, I end up casting Berserk, which I then have to wait for it to wear off as I can't use spell arts when I have the Berserk status.

I managed to learn Soul Hymm before Spectral Shot lmao.

the Toughest ones for me "Always" even back on PS1. Was
Soul Hymn - Kelvin in Volg (makes it possible with High Flame stat for dmg) not a recommended strat. i just end up Grinding Ant Commanders with Flame - Charge - Charge - Cleave (Bear Crush) doesnt burn much WP/SP.
Eradication & Dragon Revolution -_- honestly feels like a 2% drop Spark off. vs Ant Commander.
Grand Slam - Despite so many oppertunities and Spark-able Foes, and me repeating boss fights to get it. heck i feel like i shoulda took a weaker dmg/tanky as F party to a super boss fight lol to spark em all.

Kamakaze - i always get it from the Land Urchin (Best Duel Creature) in Volg.
DJ PUNK 12 Apr @ 2:29am
just wanted to chime in since the Soul Hymn is such a pain for many people; I got it from a Land Urchin duel with Gustaf first try lol

I was grinding the ants but ran into him by accident and he gave it to me first try miraculously

I don't know if stats have anything to do with it, but this is where he's at: 28 tree, 8 stone, 33 flame, 4 water, 3 tone, 30 beast (after using the parameter inherit function)

Thank you!
Multiple places to learn them; in theory fastest would be Blue skellies in Hahn Ruins during [Wil departure], but the chances are lower than on the bettles due to lower spark, so it might take a long time, but is possible ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZ2kncLVKyk )
And anything that can be sparked in Ruins can also be sparked in VogCan, only easier.

As for the Soul Hymn, while Vent and Kelvin *supposedly* can learn it the only realistic way would still be either: earlist Rich vs Anima ghoul (duel) [Laubholtz fre quest] OR Gustaf vs Ant Commander (duel) during [Ginny's Adventure]
