Intro
Hello Gods and Men among Olympus.
I have always not been a fan of strategy games basing their movement around arrow years or mouse edge panning, partially because WASD is nicer and partially because of health reasons, for I have the GAMER WRIST. Luckily for us, AOM:R has a very intimate hotkey config!
Now some people might tell you to just go to the hotkeys and change them all yourself, however, that takes a long time because there is so MANY hotkeys in this game espically that conflict with the WASD mindset.

This guide works for the new Immortal Pillars (Chinese) DLC included.
Importing WASD Hotkeys
  • Below is a link to a google drive file we need to put in your files to use this WASD hotkey profile.
  • I made this file myself by editing the hotkeys in-game, it is completely safe and feel free to run it through a virus tester program or website of choice, OR just open it or edit in notepad and look at the contents yourself to confirm its safety.
  • This file will overwrite your current hotkey profiles (JUST HOTKEYS, not other settings).
  • When you have put in this file you will have two new profiles, one called WASD and one called WASD backup, they are the same but with a backup profile to be safe.

please copy this link into your browser and you can click download on the file there:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qQlNp9_Ck2bGkbBYgZZw3h863r1KQaXK/view?usp=sharing

or click here as a clickable link instead[drive.google.com]

You will need to navigate to the folder:
C:\Users\(WINDOWSUSERNAME)\Games\Age of Mythology Retold\74321198193211231(example)\users
  • Your string of numbers and username will vary per person.
  • This is where your keybinds are located.
  • The keybind file is called LocalKeybindings it is a html/xml file.
  • Ignore the folder called ExtraKeybindingProfiles, this is irrelevant to what we are doing.

Make sure the game is closed to avoid issues.
Extract the zip containing the keybind file and overwrite/replace the file LocalKeybindings in your files with the one from the zip.

Now load in the game and select the hotkey profile WASD!

Congratulations you are now a WASD player! and just saved alot of time in your life making it yourself.
What is in this hotkey profile and Tips
WASD and left of keyboard focused hotkeys, you can view any of the hotkeys or search to find anything specific in the hotkeys menu, you can also change from this baseline profile yourself to adapt to what you wish.
  • Most commonly used hotkeys tend to be focused around Q, E, R, F & G
  • Q&E will zoom in and out respectively
  • You can change how fast your movement using WASD is using keys camera movement speed in your settings
  • Economic upgrades tend to be Q, E & R on economic buildings
  • Military upgrades tend to be F (unit upgrade) & G (levy upgrade)
  • Some buildings like Migdol Stronghold or Counter Barracks which have several different unit upgrades also spread to keys like C, V & B
  • Military unit hotkeys are focused around Q, E & R with some like Docks including more spread around keys such as X, C, V, B & T
  • God unlocked upgrades tend to be unassigned hotkeys as there is a large amount of them and would require a larger keyboard usage not focused around WASD, however you can always assign these yourself easily. Since these aren't done as commonly as like unit building and such, you just use your mouse to select them when you need.
  • By default in this hotkey profile, F1&F2 are for selecting idle/all economic units and F3&F4 for selecting idle/all military units.
  • Halt/Stop changes to H.

WASD reigns supreme.

It was because of the Japan update, new hotkeys, updated the link with an updated version. Along with other minor fixes to the other pantheon's hotkeys.

Had some similar issues as ExileVirtigo that mentioned, so had to do some copy-pasting inside the file that was generated, you might want to check if the formatting is correct.
It works pretty good when having military units selected or most of the buildings, but I have problems when villagers are selected, some of the WASD keys are still bound to the building some buildings so I am unable to move camera with WASD when villager is selected since it enters building mode for some of those buildings.

Still new to the game (installed it yesterday) but It might be because I was using Japanese which got released yesterday?

Legend, thanks for this!

Working fine here

Weird. For me, the game replaced the file on launch 3 or 4 times before I deleted the duplicate keyprofile name section, then it worked.

Seemed to work fine for me when I imported it from my laptop to my pc

Hello, the file you uploaded isn't currently working. Without the fix, it was being auto-replaced whenever I started up the game. I was able to fix it by removing:
<keyprofilegroups></keyprofilegroups>
</keyprofile>
<keyprofile name="WASD" basestyle="Legacy">

from the first few lines of the file. This info seems to have been doubled or something. I just compared it to the one the game auto-replaced it with and made the formatting the same. Thanks for having this available!

Nice, I did manually do these myself, since I also rely on those same 4 buttons as you to move the camera around and I have the same wrist problems you do.
