Here, you can make a Folder called something like "new_mod" (only use lower case and no special characters or spaces), which you fill with a "manifest.json" file where you describe your mod, you can find a template on the GoldhawkInteractive/Xenonauts2 GitHub Page (along with MUCH tutorials).
Then, you replicate the folder structure (down from, not including "/xenonauts/...") which contains the .json file you want to modify. Then, you simply copy the original .json file to your new Mod, make the changes, and BAM. Xenonauts 2 will now overwrite the original file with the one from your mod, making it so that the changes stay persistent between updates or reinstalls.
