Dominions 6 Modding the Music
By Larry the Lard
One of the common complaints I am sure a few who peruse the youtubes noticed was individuals complaining about the music of Dominions 6. Whether it be from preferring the music of other games to attempting to avoid that nebulous copyright strike, here is how to change the music of the game!

Settings to Export Music with Audacity
I recommend using Audacity as it is free and simple, but you can also use alternative programs that I don't know of that have the same functions.

Take whatever music you wish to put into Dominions and drag and drop it into audacity.

Then Export the audio

Now, there are some settings we will need to change for the music to sound decent in the game. There will be a drop in quality, but these settings were the best I so far managed to find for Dominions 6.

The things we will wish to change is the format, header and sample rate. Format we change to Other uncompressed Files. Sample rate we change to 22050 Hz and Header we change to MAT5.

This will create a .mat file!
Testing and Adding to Dominions
Now to test if the song works well in the game. You will want to open your Dominions rawsound folder (Best done via steam opening local files)

Within it you will see a long list of files called "everrune#.sw2". SW2 is a copy protection format and each of these correlates with one of the songs in Dominions. Everrune 1 and 2 are the first and second main music songs, but I haven't yet (Nor likely ever will) plot to which song each everrrune correlates too.

If we rename our .mat song to everrune1.sw2 and replace the original in this folder, when we launch up Dominions our song should be the intro song of the game. You can then repeat the process to replace every song in Dominions 6 with one of your choosing.

Frequent Problems
Problem: My music is just very loud static.

If this occurs, then you exported the song in a format that Dominions can't read. Whilst multiple formats work, I found the best via audacity is the Mat5 header you can find under "Other uncompressed files" in audacity.

Problem: My music is too fast/too slow

If this occurs, then you selected the wrong sample rate. The sample rate should be 22050 Hz, selecting above this will speed up the song, and selecting below this will slow it down.

Problem: The game crashes upon start up

I found the game requires every single everrune file to be present to not crash. If you delete one of the everrune#.sw2 files and don't replace it with a new one of the same name, the game will not launch.

Problem: The audio quality drops too much!

Sadly this is because I don't know exactly what format Dominions wants for it's music. Through trial and error, I found MAT5 to be the best but there is definitely a better format out there.

Problem: Certain songs are too quiet/loud compared to others

For this to be solved, you need to edit the songs in audacity so their volumes are similar to eachother. You can find youtube tutorials on how to do this.

Sample Music
If you want a selection of music that (From my testing) is entirely copyright free as well as not require for the original artist to be attributed in the description, please feel free to download the linked music below. All you will do is download the files then in the raw sound folder, replace all of the original everrune#.sw2 with these new ones. In total there should be 30 songs.

If any of these songs are causing copyright claims for any reason, please let me know so I can replace it. From my own test upload, there was no copyright claims. There were content ID matches, but nothing that would require revenue sharing or a copyright claim.
