Late Game Experience and Money Farming
By Transgaziel
Valkyria Chronicles is a lovely game, but it tends to get unfair the closer you get to the end. This guide allows for easy, fast accumulation of experience and ducats by exploiting a late-game skirmish.

The Setup
Valkyria Chronicles is a tactical game through and through, with a bit of strategic thinking involved (mostly of the "what to upgrade first" variety). The difficulty ramps up in the latter parts of the game, with some of them being potentially unfair. Maxing out your class levels is one solution available, though amassing enough experience and money to get the upgrades takes time.

Unless you exploit Skirmish 7, available after chapter 14 - Loss Within Victory.

Deployment

Windmill Plaza is extremely easy to farm and replaces the Vasel West Bank skirmish as experience and money farm. To effectively farm it, you need:
  • the Defense Boost order,
  • the Damage Boost order (useful, but not mandatory).
Deploy Alicia (the higher her level, the better) with the highest damage rifle you have (usually a ZM Kar pilfered off an enemy ace). Deploying Largo and Rosie for Command Points is useful if you want some wiggle room or somehow missed the Damage Boost order.

Make sure that the basic combat suit is upgraded to the highest possible level, as interception fire, while not lethal if you're fast, can be a problem.
The Execution
Without Largo and Rosie you have 8 CP to work with, which is more than enough. Use the Defense Boost and Damage Boost on Alicia to beef her up.

CP 1

Run alongside the eastern wall of the house in front of you into the street. The Defense Boost will reduce the damage you take from interception fire by about 90%, so you should have no trouble surviving the four Imperials pelting Alicia with bullets. If you've unlocked her Resist Crossfire potential, it'll be even easier. As you run down the street, aim for the left side of the tank.

Aim to end the CP behind the tank. With the Damage Boost order and a good rifle, you can destroy it, preventing interception fire from its rear turret. Otherwise, head behind the truck.

CP 2

Head towards the Imperial base camp alongside the left edge of the street. If you are fairly close to the wall, you should avoid an Imperial trooper's interception fire (in case your combat armor rating is not up to spec). Aim to come up on the target camp from the left side.

Use a grenade on the sniper (if your rifle is too weak to kill him directly) or just shoot him in the face repeatedly. Use what move you have remaining to get close to the flag.

CP 3

With Damage Boost and a decent rifle you can take out the anti-tank gun with ease by shooting the operator. Otherwise, you will have to spend up to three CP to take him out with regular fire.

Once he's gone, occupy the camp.
The Takeaway

Taking the camp in one turn is worth 56300 experience points (without the tank it's 55800) and 111500 ducats (111000 without the tank). It's enough to upgrade at least one class by a full level and unlock several upgrades at the R&D facility.

The best thing? With good timing, you can complete the skirmish in 2 to 3 minutes. Well worth the effort.

Noted for when going through again on Steam ^^

On PS3 I discovered an efficient method in playing the first (I think?) desert skirmish unlocked, on Hard, ideally completing in 3 turns for which eliminating more enemy units is optional. I run Alicia along the far right side whilst having Maria snipe problematic hiders on top of buildings, Alicia grenading enemy units off the capture point and finishing off with rifle, then claim flag - a fast and easy high yield of exp and ducats, though I am remiss on how much it was... whatever the amount, it was efficient and allowed me to farm up ranks and R&D quickly, granted again this being PS3 days so rusty on the numbers.

All fair points. I tried the scout challenge and simply aimed for an alternative that required a minimum of effort and was efficient regarding time and effort. :)

Did this a few days ago, only I don't remember whether I used Ted or Alicia. She had a ZM KAR 8 (g) and Ted had ZM KAR 9 (g), either of which will murder this tank. I didn't do damage boost because either rifle is OP and maybe used a defense boost to keep them from being murdered by enemy interception fire. This is cheese, almost literally.

The Edy Detachment weapons are IMO too powerful (which doesn't stop me from breaking the game with them, lol) and allow for strats that weren't intended by the game developers; I mean, with either ZM KAR ace rifle I mentioned, you can have scouts murder tanks on their own and slaughter Imperials huddling behind their sandbag without needing a grenade. And the SMG you get from one mission lets any Shocktrooper murder either Selvaria (Ch. 15) or Maximilian (final boss).

@Rushifell, there is no Scout Challenge Missions in the DLC that I can see. 2 of the DLC are locked till you beat the game

Yup that's the best skirmish to farm for grinding levels :)
