Secret Number 1 - "The Screaming Box"

There are some stairs under the bridge that connects between the Pirates and Vikings pathway. On the Pirate's side of the bridge there are these said stairs that lead to an armor pickup and a box. Kick the box, hit it or simply just get on it. The box and the boards will then fall, emitting a loud and long scream.

Screenshot of the box itself

Secret Number 2 - "Tribute to Doom"

There is a peculiar wall right on the pathway between the Pirates and Knights. After you take the first stairs, you should instead of turning to the right turn to the left. In this perspective, you will see a rather eerie gargoyle-styled stonehead. It can be opened by constantly pressing E all around the burning pedestal behind some bars next to it. Once you do that, the wall opens up revealing a red-black caved room. Entering it will light up the room, closes the door and reveals a skeleton in it, who begins to scream and laugh, draining your health and armor.

The skeleton himself
What happens if you die from it

Secret Number 3 - "Escape from the Malevolent Skelemage"
There is a way to escape from this room and avoid certain death. All you have to do is move to where the skeleton is, turn right and just get into that dark gap (not right into the fleshy part the skeleton is at) then press E on the wall while aiming to the left. This can be seen in next screenshot.
Going into that gap will teleport you into what appears to be a part of the skybox, making you see some kind of Mars-like atmosphere.
This is the gap mentioned in the description, go to it if you want to survive
This is where you will be teleported to
NOTE:
The mars-like place, is a source engine "skybox". Meaning, in the connection between Vikings-Knights (the place with an open cliff area looking at a desert and a giant obelisk), the side part is the aforementioned "mars" location. If you get in the secret, you will look like a giant to the players on that little part of the map. Anything you do including the next part of this guide (Obelisk of Zeus) will be visible to them. But gigantic.

Side Easter Egg - "Zeus' Obelisk"

Inside the Mars-like desert zone, there is an obelisk with a stone platform with stairs next to it. Getting on these stairs and standing on the platform makes a loud thunder sound as you get struck by lighting. This can be heard by everyone on the map. It also kills anyone that gets on it, who then gets to float up.
The after-effect
The platform

Secret Number 4 - "PVKIItecture"
There are several stone-made drawings on walls with what appears to be four classes. The first one appears to be the Vikings' Huscarl, the second one seems to be a Pirate Captain, the third one is a Knights' Archer and the last one is the easter egg; He appears to be a ninja.
as you can see, it's very subtle

Secret Number 5 - "Bridge Troll? Bridge Ninja!"
In the broken bridge that contains the path between Pirates and Vikings (with a chest closer to the Viking side), there is a way to avoid being killed by falling from the bridge and to reach what appears to be a hidden easter egg. Drop off at the Viking's side of the bridge, then strafe under the bridge and try to hug the cliff wall as much as possible. You will slip past the death trigger location (the area where the game makes you "fall to your death" upon contact). The goal is to land on any sloped surface and hopefully lose your momentum. Because this is TAS difficulty, you can very easily cancel all your momentum and survive the fall damage you'd ensue normally, by simply being uncrouched, holding a chest, and dropping it while looking straight down as you approach the bottom (assuming you are touching the cliff wall and on some sloped surface of it). Doing all these steps, you can then reach a bonfire which appears to have been set up by a ninja, with his tasty PVK1 ham nearby. This is the first time we get to meet in person with a ninja!

The ninja himself

WARNING: This is likely an oversight (getting down there), and the ninja is meant to be only observed from afar. As such, it's very janky and difficult to get down.

You will be able to explore the entire area down there!

Secret Number 1 - "The Holy Grail"

Near the Viking-Knight base connection, there is a little house with a fireplace. If you enter it and go right, you should see a golden trinket on display that is possibly a reference to "Monty Python and the Holy Grail".

Screenshot of the trinket itself

Secret Number 2 - "The Twirling Zone"

Right outside of the Hubb Jubb Bar, a place located between the Pirates-Vikings pathway, there are two crossed oars on the wall, if you press E on them and immediately jump on the hammock net at your right, you will be teleported to a rather dark room with some sort of twirling portal on it.
The bar, and the location of the oars
The room itself

In this room, if you fall down, you will simply die. If you are able to get into the blue portal (or pretty much jump out of any window into the void walls) you will be teleported back to the Hubb Jubb Bar, inside and on top of a stereo speaker.
※To reach the portal, you will have to cross an invisible gap, as the platform to it fades into transparency towards the portal. Simply jumping off the visible edge and holding roll and W seems to consistently cross it every time.

If you get to the third archway to the right, you can try falling down into it beneath the secret area (make sure you're as precise as possible to fall underneath, strafing off while crouching and strafing back under is useful). If successful, you will be teleported to another tunnel-esque archway, which will then teleport you to the bottom of the small wooden walkway right near the Knights' base in the Vikings-Knights pathway. This room actually used to be full of all kinds of armour from the older versions of PVKII. Now, there's an invisible trigger in the middle of it that fully refills a player's HP so long as they are in contact with it.

Secret Number 1 - "The Clothed-Eye Butterfly"

There exists a magical butterfly behind the pirate base on Pinegrove, which upon contact with any human being, teleports said person into a freaky dimension of lazy mapping and unfinished easter egg concepts (terrifying!). This butterfly appears invisible to the untrained eye. However, there is in fact a method of getting it to show.

The location of this butterfly is behind the Pirate's cave (spawn), in the big, open area filled with blooming flowers, grass and trees. The area also contains three chests, two placed on a plank and the third on top of a rather long bridge above.

Firstly, you will need to activate the magical rune (shown as "Secret Number 2 - "Forgotten Runes" "). Upon activating the rune's magical abilities, make your way back to the area where this magical butterfly is located, behind the Pirate's cave. Then, you will see two butterflies. One of them already existed, the white butterfly. But now, by activating the magical rune, you have summoned an orange one. This is your one and only ticket to the secret! Intercept the butterfly, and press the action key (by default, "E") on it. Soon enough, you'll be taken to a whole new dimension that can only be described as peculiar. This secret appears to be unfinished as of now. While you're inside the secret, step on the dirt platform behind the grass to be returned back to the level.

It is worth noting, other than the dirt platform teleporting you back, there is another location that you can be teleported to, but is currently unknown how. The map's information describes that location as "chest_sea".
UPDATE: It seems that this is simply unfinished leftover code, because this secret was likely meant to be updated a long time ago but was forgotten or left behind.

The secret itself

the "dirt" ground that will teleport you back to the action

Secret Number 2 - "Forgotten Runes"
There is a small island located to the left of the mill, across the waterfall.

You must approach the little hill behind the mill, and you'll see a small tree on the edge of the waterfall's right side. You must jump from the right of that tree on the island.

Going to that island, there is a rune. It glows green if you press the "Use" (Default: E) button on it.
However, as stated in the first secret, it also summons a butterfly required to perform the teleportation to the secret.

The nordic rune text translates to "Where there was one, there are now two".

The Rune....

The place to jump from...

Secret Number 3 - "Booty Man's Ghost"
There is a Crypt, which appears to be made specifically for the higher royalty or priests knowing there are only two skeletons, on the right of the Knight's spawn. It has 2 stairs going up to a man-made tunnel leading to the mill.

Supposedly, paranormal source engine spaghetti activities happen there, including;
"Ghostly sounds and voices"
"Shadows of your character on the roof"
...And more.

The Crypt

Secret Number 4 - "The Stone of Nature"
There exists a stone, which upon touch makes a butterfly take an alternate route. This specific butterfly is green, and takes a path over the stone and around it. The "stone" itself is located to the right of the Viking's spawn, near the ramp that leads to the lookout area.

It is important to note that by looking at the map decompiled, this stone requires the player to hold E on it for its effects to go off. Alongside the effects of the alternate butterfly route, it very weirdly appears to also start a source engine "train" map object somewhere. I am unsure of where.
UPDATE: This train is probably the butterfly internally.

Secret Number 1 - "Felis' Book"
In the library, you can see a book with a pen and quiver near named "CODEX".
That is a reference to the "Pirate's Codex" from "Pirates of the Caribbean".

Secret number 2 - "Davy Jones the Organ Dealer"

In the same library, there is a book with a ''Debtors'' page on it, indicating that Davy Jones (One of the most popular antagonist pirates in "Pirates of the Caribbean") is a debtor, who last time tried to pay with his organ (musical instrument) but was not successful.

Secret Number 3 - "The PVKIIbles"
There are some books with references to some developers (or/even ex-developers), for example...

tw_temple
Secret Number 1 - "CrazyTalk loves Christopher Reeves"

There's a big room with some pillars where the Knights tend to spawn (nearby). On top of it, there is a ledge. If you can walk on it, you will reach into the corner and then you can see a transparent picture naming the author of the map, CrazyTalk, along with a photo of Christoper Reeves. If you press E at it, you can hear some of his quotes.

The mentioned ledge

The secret itself
- CrazyTalk!

Secret Number 2 - "One Terrible Ninja"
Right near the Pirates' spawn, there's a cage, in it there's a white-clothed ninja.

The Ninja himself

Secret Number 3 - "Killer Bunny of PVKII"

Near the cage with a ninja on it, there is an open cage. If you walk inside it with your team's trinket, you will get killed with the death icon being a bunny. This is a reference to the Killer Bunny from the movie "Monty Python & The Holy Grail".

Secret Number 4 - "Typical Secret Walls"

In front of the Vikings' Spawn Point, there is a staircase that leads to another big room. If you press E on one of the walls (which should have a slightly different colour and outline than the others), a secret passage will open. Another hidden door can be located in the upper level of the temple, in the square-shaped room.
 Location of the wall
Small teaser of what may be inside it

Bonus Jank- "Killing Rotators of Screams"

This one is also right near the cage room. Near the ladders, there's a lever. This will make it so the wall to the left of the lever will rotate with the intent to kill players. Back when this guide was originally posted, it was possible to survive the rotation with some precise movement. Contained for archival purposes.

※Need more up to date screenshots with temple's redesign in mind.
※The grail ceiling trap hasn't been mentioned as it is of course closer to an obvious map feature than an easter egg.

Secret number 1 - "Afraid and Well Hidden Ninja"
Near the Knights' spawn, there is another ninja behind a bunch of barrels under the stairs leading to the cellar. If you look closely you will see him. Hard to see due to the lighting, though.

Secret number 2 - "Pirates Versus Ninjas"
In the nearby room, there are a lot of books entitled ''Math for Pirates'' and ''Ninja Slaying 101''. This is a reference to the Pirates Versus Ninjas[tvtropes.org] trope.

Secret number 3 - "Gaybeard's Dictionary"
Near the cellar room, there is a cage with gold and a book named ''English to Pirate book, by Captain Gaybeard''.

Secret number 4 - "Well of Souls"
There is a well right in front of the Pirates' spawn. There is a big tree and a statue there as well.

If you stay in that area next to the well until sudden death, you'll start hearing some voices from the well. But you must stay at least 3 seconds before sudden death for it to activate.

Secret number 5 - "Her"
There is a small tavern/house right behind the knight's spawn point, which has 1 open window on it, and a red-coloured Knights' sign on the side.

The window is (as of now) not accessible without cheats, however the player is able to get really close to it.

Looking through the window, to the roof reads:

Don't listen to her

The window from outside....

the reading up close....

Secret number 5 - "Hidden Credits"
To the right of the Viking's spawn, there exists an iron gate that has view to a small courtyard of sorts. A small hallway can be seen, and is just out of view if you look closely. Via noclipping or spectating outside of the map boundaries, we can see the hallway leads to a small wall segment and a dead-end. The sticking-out part of the hallway appears to be some developer and mapper credits up close.

The hallway......

Secret number 6 - "Yet Another Ninja"
Outside of the playable area of town, in the same general location as with the credits shown in the last secret, there is a hidden ninja hidden behind a wall, in an empty building.

Secret Number 1 - "The Dojo of the Ninjas"

There are 3 steps to getting this, but this secret is quite frankly absurd.

Step one:
To the left of pirate's spawn point, there is a small market place.
Go to it, and look to the left again. You will see a table with a basket on top, stand on the basket and press E on the center of it a couple of times. [/spoiler].

The basket...

Step two:
There is a giant building in the exit door near the viking's spawn to the right (coming out of their spawn).
Notably, it's the building with chess-pattern on the windows. From the left-most window, shoot the
second window roughly in the centre. Watch out though, the trigger area to activate the secret is precise.

the window itself..

Third step:
On the chicken territory, there is an open window upstairs.
Get on the outside ledge of the window, and momentum-strafe on the two weird blocky spots that stick out from the wall across the gap. Then, jump from the bottom one to get to the highest one and momentum-jump to the door. Lastly press E on the little left reinforced iron-bar spot on the door.

Once you're inside the Dojo, you can interact with the bell to ring it, and you'll get greeted with the text "THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE CHAMPION".

The whole location, and the door...

The Cave Easter Egg

Across the pirate spawn, on the only side of the map from the center that doesn't directly lead to a team, there is a cave with two entrances across the water which are covered by waterfalls.

It's surprisingly easy to get there, you will need either someone to give you knockback so you can surf to the ice and then jump into the cave (easier from the left side), or you can use a chest special/ other special/any other movement boost (even a chest launch!) to traverse the water in time without dying.

Inside of the cave, you will find a glitchy stone door which may appear unfinished since you can walk through it (oh no..), however, it is actually a slide puzzle! puzzle! You need to kill one person of each of the 3 teams into the fire. Then, the door will open and lead to a cool credit room.

The inside of the secret room...

-Extras-
-Tortuga is a reference to an island from the Pirates of the Caribbean.
-The Heavy Knight heavily references the Black knight from Monty Python & The Holy Grail.
-One of the archer's pirate taunts is ''Piracy is a Crime!'' referencing Pirates of the Caribbean.
-Holstering the Buccaneer's special will heal a small amount of HP, and cause him to get drunk.

-The first game, Pirates Vikings and Knights 1, was entirely made by only three UC Berkeley students: Garett Moore, Matt Bishop and Kris Hauser.
Random Glitches/Miscellaneous Gameplay Information
-If you Perfect Parry someone and press Mouse 1 to counter attack, and switch weapons while doing the said attack, then switch back to the weapon you used to do it, that weapon becomes enchanted! Well, visually at least (it maintains the fully charged particles constantly)... This persists but goes away when you attack with the weapon.
It's pretty cool.

-Did you know that sometimes throwing a chest at your feet at a roughly 50 degree downward angle while walking backwards down a slope makes you fling yourself? Inconsistent, but..
-Kegs can be bashed and kicked away. Important to note, if you stand on a keg and bash it, especially with full force, something magical happens.
-Charge the zerker's sword-axe combo and sharpshooter's dagger by doing a stab attack (walking back and holding attack).
-You can switch weapons while rolling.
-If you start a Man-at-Arms fart, and immediately after starting it press reload, you can move and reload! Pretty lame. ※Most likely entirely removed as of the latest update!
-A dagger can Perfect Parry a hook and another dagger with friendly fire.
-You can perform a "powder jump", and a "cannonball jump" as either sharpshooter or captain. Get 15 or 0 armor as Sharpshooter, and about 20/lower as captain, and fill up your special. Then, (be sure to have a lot of HP so you survive the blast) jump and throw the powder bomb or cannonball at your feet! It can get you over obstacles, out of tight situations, and can be used easily during battles, since if you get damaged enough you'll probably lose most of your armor, allowing the knockback to be strong enough for you to perform this jump.
-No weapon in the game could parry a flail other than the flail itself.
-You can get on-top of player's heads in the knight's basement and viking's spawn (along with other locations that have small roofs and straight floors) even though the ground is straight, due to source engine voodoo.
-Sharpshooter can reload his pistol while rolling.
-You can perform a "Keg jump" with the skirmisher's keg, even if you're on the same team as the skirmisher throwing it. You still get knocked back really high, and you take no damage. Especially useful as sharpshooter!
If you are on the same team as the skirmisher:
Just stand on their keg, when it blows up you go flying without taking any damage (other than the fall damage if you miss your landing).
If you are on another team:
You need a shield. Get on top of the keg, hold your shield out and block with it so you take next to no damage. The Berserker can survive a keg jump due to his high HP, even if directly on the keg. He will die easily afterwards however...
Why should i keg jump?
Simply, to get on otherwise inaccessible spots from which other players won't expect you.

-As sharpshooter, if you are to spam Mouse 1 to fire your rifle just after you throw your powder horn special, you fire a "phantom" bullet that does no damage. Of course, you hear and see a shot but no ammo is reduced from you and you can fire again without needing to reload.

Removed Features/Bugs/Cheats
-You could get in the Vikings' or Pirates' spawn areas inside of the map bt_island (in the building and on the ship) if you had a person to jump on to. NOTE: This could also be done by powder/cannonball jumping alone!

FIX: Now the spawns themselves have barriers that push players outside if they are from other teams.
NOTE: It appears the ship is not completely patched, since if you were to get enough air you can still get on it as any other team.

-You used to be able to get into a T-Pose as archer if you were to roll while you had an empty crossbow in hand.

FIX: Fixed.

-You could get outside the map (sort of) on the map bt_island if you were to get enough horizontal and vertical push, allowing you to walk on some otherwise inaccessible cliffs.

FIX: Added invisible barriers.

-In the very early versions of the game, all the tree models had peculiar, triangular-like collision boxes allowing you to be able to climb up them.

FIX: Changed collision models.

-You used to be able to get stuck as Sharpshooter or Archer if you were to reload mid-roll animation.

FIX: Fixed the issue, disallowing you to reload at specified times.

-In Trinket Wars the Huscarl used to sometimes sing the troll song, if one was to use the "encourage" voice command with the trinket. Players generally could only sign by using the encourage voice command while holding either a chest or the trinket, but this was later changed to have its own voice command option for use constantly.

-The heavy knight should have a flail, like he did in the original game, but the developers thought it would be unbalanced to give him 3 weapons. However, the code for it is in the game and you can use it (the console command is: give weapon_flail).

-In earlier stages of the game, the Heavy Knight also had a crossbow, but it got removed in a update. (Due to archer being added)

Island Voodoo Spots - Part 1
Here we will be listing what we believe are the most important tricks a bt_island player must know when playing their favourite map.

Spot Number 1 - "The Slopy Cliff"

You can crouch jump and hold W as any fast class in the game to get up to get up on this crouch-spot on this cliff.

the cliff

the spot itself....

Spot Number 2 - "The Surprising Window!"
[PATCHED]

You can crouch jump and hold W towards the stone ridge of this door from the left side to slowly rise and get on top, able to surprise any foe running under you!

The Door itself

The spot itself....

Spot Number 3 - "The Questionable Clipping"

By crouch jumping towards the pillars near the Viking exit to Pirates, you are able to get on their edges and therefore have a surprise advantage if a viking is unable to spot you while coming up!

the pillars...

the spot from the left-most pillar...

Spot Number 4 - "The Sign of Sniping"
[PATCHED]

By having a player stand on a specific spot on the viking's roof near their spawn, you are able to easily jump on them and get onto the very edge of the roof above the spawn. Then, proceed to the left to fall onto the sign, and you'll float for anyone looking at you below, giving you a high spot for sniping!

Where the player must stand...

The edge of the roof you get on..

The sign spot itself...

Spot Number 5 - "The Various Door Spots"

You can use the "rise" technique we used for spots 1 and 2, to get on many of the doors in island. The two most useful are the ones shown here in the viking's town.

Door 1, leading to the stairs...

Door 2, leading deeper into the Viking's town..

Spot Number 6 - "The Ridiculous Rope"
If you walk onto this rope, and stop as soon as you hear the "ladder" sound play, then proceed to jump (normal jump) you can go flying into the air, great for evading pursuers.

The rope itself...

Showcase of the height you can reach...

Spot Number 7 - "The Tremendous Tree"

This is a great but underused spot. Vikings usually check the walls of the castle for archers as they approach, but they never usually check this tree which you can jump on from the walls!

The tree spot...

Spot Number 8 - "The Odd Flags"

The reason we called them "odd" is because it's an "odd" spot to get to. You can either jump on a player from the walls, or use the powder horn jump technique mentioned earlier (also starting from the walls). Since the skybox is so low on the castle, you might hit your head and fall down easily.

The spot.....

Spot Number 9 - "The Castle Camera Spots"
[PATCHED]

You can get on two places inside the throne room, overlooking the chests, which is useful for Archers wanting to get easy shots in the intruders. However, getting to these spots requires either a buddy to hop on or a powder horn like earlier. One of them is the chandelier, the other is on the wooden plank near the ceiling.

The spot on the plank, and where the second player must stand.

The spot on the chandelier, and where the other player must stand again for you to reach it.

Spot Number 10 - "The Keg Cliff"

This spot requires a "keg jump", so you'll need to either have a shield or be on the same team as the player throwing the keg. Throw the keg here:

To end up here (you'll need to move in the air to get close enough to the cliff to stand on the spot):

Spot Number 11 - "The Taller Tremendous Trees"

Once again, this requires a keg jump. The keg must be thrown on the bottom of either tree, e.g. here:

so that you land on the tree while falling.

view of the spot, good for sharpshooters...

Spot Number 12 - "The Broken Boat"

There's a small boat behind the rocks in the Pirate's base. Next to that is a small roof, which you can only get on if you stand on the very right edge of the boat and jump on the roof from there.

the spot from which you jump..

the roof itself..

Note on the Sign of Sniping aforementioned spot
I've stated [PATCHED] in this version of the guide, because indeed the method shown there is partially fixed.

However, you can still replicate this bug just as well in the current build of the game!

Simply, have your friend stand at a lower spot on the sloped roof, get on them, and have them spam jump as you jump on their head. You can get boosted on a similar edge clip, and you will be allowed to simply jump on the sign above the spawn like normal.

It's possible, just harder!
Island Voodoo Spots - Part 2
Spot Number 13 - "The Sneaky Speaker"

You can jump up on a plank in the club, to get on this speaker in the bar. Although it is pretty known, you might be able to escape someone who is not experienced if you are hurt by hiding up here.

The plank on which you jump on....

the speaker spot itself...

Spot Number 14 - "The Complicated Cliff"
[PARTIALLY PATCHED]

The long-lost cousin of the keg cliff, this one can be scaled alone. Here's how you do it though, it is a bit complicated as the name suggests.
Stand on this spot and crouch jump:

If you did it right, you'll stand on something invisible in the rocks. It's a very small spot, so don't move.

Then, look at the rocks, and strafe jump onto this wooden sign.

Lastly, take a big leap and hold W and crouch (to slide up the lip) towards the grassy area of the cliff until you are able to crouch and not fall down (you'll stop moving if you hit the right spot).
This is the part that was patched, unfortunately.

Congratulations, now you could have been an annoying sharpshooter better than ever before!

Spot Number 15 - "The Random Rock"

You can swim to the side of this rock to get pushed up on it (even though it's not really all that useful).

view on the rock...
