Controls
Just in case,
  • You can dash/start running by double-tapping a directional key/button.
  • You can change direction while using a flashlight by dashing.
  • If you attack while holding the flashlight, the flashlight will recharge in the meantime.
  • Once you have sneakers, you can change directions while charging weapons the same way you do a backflip.

Weapons
Check out the other guide for weapon damage numbers!

I felt like most of these are sufficiently straightforward, so here are some favorites:

Slingshot
  • Not too shabby if you can spam it! (or if your controller has a "turbo" option)
  • Doesn't send monsters back into shadows, which makes it faster to fight some enemies with

Hatchet
Not as spammable as the slingshot, but lets you hit enemies far above you! Very good for some boss fights and enemies that hit hard in close range.

And it's free too!

Short Sword
A fun weapon!
  • If you keep mashing the attack key while on the top of your jump arc, you'll stay suspended in the air, which is good for some fights.
  • Velocity from before the attack is preserved, which means that you can jump at the enemy at full speed, hit a combo, and fly past them before they hit you back.
  • Two weaker hits don't send monsters back into shadows, so you can jump past the enemies back and forth if you want

Pyro Boot
Ultimate mobility! Just jump as you fly past an enemy (make sure not to jump into bullets though)
Bosses
Lochness
Stay at the right edge of the arena, jump over any fired projectiles, keep your bat charged, and hit the boss after it lunges towards you. If you get grabbed, you can free yourself by tapping keys fast enough.

Sorcerer

(cellar boss)
I couldn't come up with any better strategy than hatchets at it and dodging away.

Sasquatch
The boss can be hit in the head but the head can't hit you, so keeping close to it is a pretty good idea

Most weapons that help you stay in the air will help here.

Hellhound(s)
Arguably harder than the actual bosses?

Don't fight two of these at once, get just close enough so that one starts attacking.

Having the cellar boss drop weapon helps.
Achievement tips
First things first, you can get a handful of tips by talking to each shopkeeper as both Terry and (on your second playthrough) Jerry.

The basics
You should do all the collecting achievements on your first save file - the shops are listed above and monsters/bestiary pages are easily found using the radar items.

Who Needs Parkour
Get Grip Gloves (and then multi-jumps) instead of the backflip.

Can be done along with Frugal Boy.

Frugal Boy
I've done this by buying Grip Gloves, Rocket Boot (from Clock Tower), and one 5-coin health upgrade.

You can later get another jump from the cellar.

Reach for the Sky
That's the relic in the Wary Temple, just in case.

Can be done along with Pacifist Boy.

Pacifist Boy
You only bash 4 monsters (to get out of the starting area) and 5 bosses (except for the optional library boss) for this one.

You can still buy upgrades from shops by looting coins from the environment (lockers, tubes, toilets) instead. Environmental coin sources respawn when you load the game.

You can try combining this with Death Avoider.

Old Reliable
Pyro Boot / Fire Blast doesn't count and is good help on both Sorcerer and Sasquatch fights.

Death Avoider
You can get majority of the weapons and upgrades before you fight any of the bosses and that helps.

In the worst case scenario, saving and quitting in the middle of a boss fight doesn't count as a death if you still had health left.

Speedy Boy
This should be your 5th or 6th playthrough so you should hopefully know what you're doing by now.

Use the knowledge you've gained from Pacifist Boy playthrough to traverse the map faster, and plan ahead!

I was able to get a 35-minute time on first attempt despite multiple catastrophic failures so I'm tempted to say that it's easier than it might seem..?

My strategy was all but:
  1. Buy the backflip
  2. Climb up, get the ball down, get the axe
  3. Leave the ball dungeon through the spring pad on the left, get the sword
  4. Buy a double jump from the clock tower
  5. Buy Grip Gloves
  6. Fight the nessie
  7. Do a lap across the map to buy a handful of Health+ upgrades and Pyro Boot
  8. Fight the bosses
Closing notes
If anything's missing, that's because this guide has been lying on my hard drive for around a month.

Thanks for reading!
