How to enable 3D acceleration in Peggle Nights for Windows 11

A concise guide walking you through how to enable 3D acceleration in Peggle Nights. When this started working for me, it only worked in windowed mode but I also have a solution for that further in the guide.

*This guide has only been verified on Windows 11, results may varry

Enabling 3D Acceleration
1. Go to: https://fdossena.com/?p=wined3d/index.frag and download the latest version.



2. Find the folder in your downloads folder and extract it to whereever you like, the downloads folder works fine.

3. Open up the folder and select these files for copying:
  • d3d8.dll
  • ddraw.dll
  • wined3d.dll



4. Paste the selected files into your Peggle Nights data folder, which is found at: C:ProgramData/PopCapGames/PeggleNights



5. Play Peggle Nights and go into the settings by pressing the menu icon in the bottom left, then click the checkbox just left of '3D Acceleration'. You may need to affirm that your hardware won't slow down.
Make Fullscreen
1. Play Peggle Nights

2. Go to the windows search bar and search for: Settings>Display

3. Change your resolution to 800px by 600px.

4. Open Peggle Nights in your task bar.

I don't know a way to get rid of the window bar thingy at the top but if you do, comment it and i'll verify and add it to the guide.

You can also use ctrl + alt + D (the letter) , and then shift + f8 .
Once you've pressed the first key combination, you'll hear a windows error sound. Then use shift + f8, and a popup will tell you 3D mode has been enabled. You might see some window jank while it turns it on, but it will then be enabled for the rest of your session.
