Description

At this point in the game, I primarily play to help others succeed against Fatalis. I go as far as teaching basic knowledge, helping players create builds, and offering guidance. However, I’ve always wondered if the advice I give genuinely helps people improve.

To challenge myself and test this, I decided to set aside my trusty charge blade for the past year and focus on a single objective: learning the longsword in depth—the incredibly popular weapon in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne that I’ve despised with all my heart and struggled to use properly. My goal? Achieve consistent sub-10-minute solo runs against Fatalis for at least 30 attempts in a row.

This challenge forced me to learn a weapon I didn’t care for, refine my skills, and push my mentally restrained mind beyond its limits. Over time, I improved my timer until I could defeat Fatalis in under 10 minutes consistently, even with bad luck, without overthinking my strategy. Just plain old, casual Monster Hunter gameplay.

The hunt I’m sharing here is the final one of the 30. It’s far from perfect, but it embodies what I aimed to demonstrate: consistency. Even when you’re mentally drained (trust me, I was), you can still perform reliably with enough practice.

Some might argue that my gear helped. Maybe so—but if that’s your takeaway, you’ve missed the point. Decent builds can be crafted long before you reach Fatalis. The real lesson is about mindset, adaptability, and creating opportunities during and before the fight. Fatalis isn’t like most monsters—he reacts to your actions. Success comes from taking calculated risks and learning when and how to seize opportunities safely.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with your defense or elemental resistances—it’s often a question of not getting yourself caught in the various traps Fatalis sets for you. And while I’m happy to have achieved this level of consistency, my main message is this: it’s okay to fail as long as you strive to improve step by step. Too many people overlook this process and focus solely on results.

To those who struggle: take your time. Remember, slow is smooth, and smooth is fast.

To the wonderful hunters I’ve met over the past 4000 hours who listened to my advice: thank you. You’ve given me the drive to keep helping others and enjoying this amazing game until I can go on and do the same in the next Monster Hunter game.

To those who rage quit and waste everyone’s time because they refuse to learn and just want to be boosted past Fatalis: please, go back to fighting Dodogama.
