Intro
Welcome to the grindiest achievement for 100% by far. SPOILERS: If you care about the lore then the names of all the entries will be listed, so read no further.

It took us about 70 hours of dedicated grinding to get all the lore entries.

(As of ver 1.1, they have made lore shards more common and added duplicate protection, so the achievement should be much easier)

Lore entries
There are 30 lore entries total, split into the following categories:

Temperance, found in Frost themed areas:
  • 5x Jar Brain Diaries
Vigilance, found in Flame themed areas:
  • 7x Testimonies of Atar
Bravery, found in Lightning themed areas:
  • 6x Captain's Logs
  • 6x Port Aken Transcripts
Uncategorised, which can be found anywhere:
  • 6x Musings of Thutmose:
    • On Immortality and Flatulence
    • On Traversing the Void
    • On the HOLLOW Peril
    • On Gazing Into the Void
    • On Individual Greatness
    • On Spinach and Statistics

NOTE: Prior to the All Hands on Deck update on April 18th, 2025, the Loremaster achievement was bugged and would not unlock. If you gathered all 30 Lore Data Shards in this time, you will need to collect one more data shard post-update to trigger the achievement detection and earn it. Like other achievements, the Steam achievement may be delayed for a moment, but will unlock shortly.

Every time you insert a lore shard into the astral map, you gain one entry from the theme of the area/boss at random, or an uncategorised entry. There is NO dupe protection, so you can get the same one over and over (looking at you, jar brain diary 4 of 5). Dupe protection was added as of April 18th 2025

You can press 'P' to check the codex for entries you currently have.
Where to find lore shards
According to the devs, lore shards can be found in these primary mission types:
  • Download
  • Ambush
  • Raid
From personal experience, only Downloads and Ambushes have had lore, but it sounds like other people have found them in Raids. Please continue to leave comments if you have found any in Raid missions.

Commentors have also noted that lore shards can appear on occasion in the following secondary objectives, but with less frequency
- Abandoned Facility
- Ancient Wreck

Lore shards are found in data archive terminals, which are located within the structures of the main objectives of the above mission types, and less commonly in the listed sub-objectives.

These terminals can be used without powering on the facility, though the doors that need to be opened to get to them may need facility power.

If you hold down the interact button on the terminal it will eventually pop out a Lore data shard:

Slot this into your astral map to get a random codex entry according to the area theme. The codex entry will be saved as soon as it appears in the HUD, so don't worry if you crash or have to leave.
Things that do not work
Here are some things that seem like they could work, but don't:
  • Using the nano copy matrix to clone a lore shard won't work, because the nano copy matrix can't be used on lore shards, even though "special items" aren't mentioned as uncopiable by the description of the nano copy matrix.
  • Waiting until you're in a different area to analyse a lore shard so that it gives you a codex entry for the new area won't work, because the codex entry you receive is based on the area the lore shard comes from.
Speedrunning tips
So you've got all the other achievements, and you want to 100% but spend the least amount of time doing so? Here are some suggestions:
  • Data archive terminals have a limited number of possible spawn locations for each structure layout.
  • The Frigate is a little faster than the Destroyer, but the Destroyer has an extra relic slot for Forward Emissary if you find it, which will make it marginally faster than the Frigate.
  • Flying diagonally by holding forward (w) while strafing (q or e) is a little faster than only flying forward.
  • You can skip interdictions by selecting a destination and pulling the void jump lever before tunnel stability reaches 0%.
  • You can pre-charge the void drive while in the void tunnel to skip missions that won't contain lore shards faster. This bypasses the need to achieve sync charge, which is unavailable on the Frigate.
  • Once you have all uncategorised entries, don't bother collecting lore in any area where you've already collected all of the codex entries. Instead, skip every mission until you clear the area boss. A coordinated team of three players can skip missions by pre-charging the void drive and setting the escape vector so that the pilot can immediately void jump after exiting the void tunnel.
  • On download missions, if you find a lore shard in the power room, other players that are scavenging power fuses can instead bring them back to the ship, and use them on a future download mission to save time.
Build Suggestions
Your final build is flexible and ultimately personal preference. For longer runs, boss kill time and defence against projectiles will be major factors in your survival and speed, so we preferred to include the following on our ship in longer runs:
  • 3x Mk. 3 Point Defence, one on each side except for the front
  • 1x Mk. 3 Arc Shield at the front
  • 1x Mk. 3 Beamcaster (mods flexible, but prefer a focus on damage)
  • 1x Mk. 3 Shuriken (mods flexible, but prefer a focus on damage and/or rate of fire)

Same for Bravery, pulling duplicates of Captain's Logs.

As of today (6/16/25) I'm still getting duplicate lore shard entries in the Vigilance systems. Duplicate protection doesn't seem to be functioning there. I'm searching for my last un-categorized entry, and both entries I pulled on my run were duplicates of Testimonies of Atar.

Priority targets had an ancient wreck with a lore shard

I confirm that:
- Main Objective - Raid, Download, Ambush do have Lore in like 20-30% chance
- Secondary Objective - Abandoned Facility about 10-15% chance and SOME of Ancient Wreck that have multiple rooms inside
56 hours to get 24 lore I was missing (after the non duplicate and achievement have been fixed)

I got one from a raid, but it was one of the big vault doors, not the hallway one. I think it was in temperance, but I don't remember.
