FOREWORD
So, you've come in the hopes of becoming a better Slayer? well, you've come to the right place, friend! Beyond this foreword are rundowns, tips and tricks on how to survive even the cruellest encounters. The question remains:

WILL YOU CLING TO THE SAFETY OF THE PEARLY GATES OR WILL YOU DIVE WITH US AND BATTLE THE DEPTHS OF HELL ITSELF?
Basic Knowledge For New And Experienced Players
HEAT
This one keyword is the unit of measurement that dictates how many enemies spawn. This is controlled entirely by how many items and doors you or your team pick up. These items range from guns to collectables.

CRESTS
This one is a little bit of a no-brainer but I'll include it anyway. There are three crests you can grab in the game; Blood [Red], Moon [Blue] and Sun [Yellow]. these crests are used to unlock doors of the same colour and you can tell which crests you have by the lit or unlit symbols all around your minimap to the topright.

BLOOD MACHINES
In the Sun Room [Yellow Rooms on the map], you will come across 7 strange devices. These devices, when interacted with for long enough, will sap 7% of your total HP to fill itself. When all 7 are filled, your escape will be ready back at Spawn. Just be careful, for if you aren't paying attention, they WILL kill you. Chances are if the Demons won't kill you, the Blood Machines will!

TRINKETS/PLAYER LEVEL
These are items you can find after every level that you can equip and upgrade to boost your Player Level. Player Level is capped at 468, but you'll find it is VERY difficult to get all the way up there.

CARD
This is a 3-piece collectable scattered throughout the level that will reward you with a random trinket if the pieces are reunited. There is one piece per room colour and they cannot spawn in Green [Spawn] or Yellow [Sun] Rooms.

DEMON CARD
On the 'Time to Die' difficulty and higher, the card you are used to piecing together on lower difficulties will now glow a bright red. It follows the same rules as its counterpart but on top of that, it has a chance [presumably 20%] of giving you a special item called a Demon Chest when completed. In order to reap its Demon Chest reward, you must complete the level with all 3 pieces. However, if the chat says you were rewarded a trinket, you can fail the level and still get the trinket as a reward.

TOTEM CHEST
These are small black, wooden lockboxes scattered throughout the map that require glowing silver keys to open for a random boon that will be active for that level and only that level. They cannot spawn in Green [Spawn] or Yellow [Sun] Rooms.

DEMON CHEST
This is the Totem Chests' counterpart that only starts spawning on 'Time to Die' or higher' These bear the same look as their Totem counterparts, but are bright red instead. In order to even pick them up, you will need to use a silver key on them, like their more common counterparts. There's a limit of 0-2 spawns, entirely dependant on the difficulty and map size you're playing on. Like the Cards and Totem Chests, they cannot spawn in Green [Spawn] or Yellow [Sun] Rooms. Be warned however, the many demons in the level with you might have something to say about you taking their chests. If you do manage to thieve a Demon Chest, you will need to complete the level with it in your inventory in order to have it as a reward. The bright red heptagram under your minimap will glow if you have one.

RUBY CHEST
These chests look similar to the Demon Chests, the only differences being these chests glow and they can only be found on the two hardest difficulties; Unearthly [Player Level 100+] and Abyss [Player Level 150+]. These chests, like the Demon and Totem chests, can spawn in any room save for the Green [Spawn] and Yellow [Sun] Rooms. As far as I know, up to 3 of them can spawn at a time. Each Ruby Chest yields 100 Rubies.

ABYSS CHEST
This chest is nearly identical to the Demon Chest, but can ONLY be acquired on the hidden difficulty and the hardest of all; ABYSS. Instead of picking this chest up like the Demon Chest and Totem Chest, it can only be looted once all 3 Abyss Wanderers are slain. the Abyss Wanderers look just like you but are twice your size with special attacks and buffs it gives to its allies. Like the Demon Chests, Abyss Chests can only be obtained as a reward if you complete the level. You can see how many Abyss Wanderers you have slain by the number of lit green heptagrams under your minimap.

ABYSS COINS
These coins are an Abyss-only currency. You gain these coins for completing an Abyss run with between 1-3 Abyss Wanderers defeated, scrapping a Demon Chest, scrapping a ring obtained from a Demon Chest, scrapping an Abyss Chest or scrapping a Rank 4 trinket obtained only from Abyss Chests. These coins are used to open Abyss Chests and to upgrade Rank 4 trinkets.
How Player Level Really Works
I've done the math on this and I'm pretty confident I cracked how this works. So after every level you complete, you will be rewarded with Trinkets; the higher the difficulty, the better the level on your new Rank 1 or Rank 2 trinkets could be. Then you have to wrestle with higher difficulties to have a chance at Rank 3 trinkets from Demon Chests and finally, Rank 4 trinkets from Abyss Chests which will always be at Level 1. No matter what.

Demon Bestiary [Stats Incomplete]
NOTE: Before reading on, remember that all the Light + Heavy Demons were measured on Sliver of Mercy. The Rotten were measured on Time To Kill and of course, the Abyss Wanderers on Abyss since those the lowest difficulties they appear on. Every difficulty higher than their original difficulties will add an extra 25% to their Health and Damage.

BOSS DEMONS

- Black/Rotten Abyss Wanderer aka 'The Wizard';
Health: ~7000 HP
Ally Buff: Abyssal Speed -> Grants nearby allies the power to move twice as fast.
Personal Attack: Face of Death, similar to the Rotten Witch.

- Green Abyss Wanderer aka 'The Warlock';
Health: ~8000 HP
Ally Buff: Abyssal Power -> Grants all nearby allies the powers of their Rotten counterparts.
Personal Attack: Volley of Blue Fireballs, similar to the Rotten Faceless

- Yellow Abyss Wanderer aka 'The Necromancer';
Health: ~9000 HP
Ally Buff: Abyssal Influence -> Grants nearby allies the ability to shed their flesh on death, fighting you once again as a Spirit of the Abyss. This requires you to kill one enemy twice.
Personal Attack: Giant Homing Skull of Flames, relatively similar to the Clown
Base Damage Estimates
These estimates and the Health stats in the Demon Bestiary are rooted around my belief that the Pistol's base Damage is a nice 25. Not only is 25 a nice rational number, but it also would save you a lot of headaches when it comes to calculating enemy health as well as Damage.

Kukri: 13 Damage (takes 2 hits to kill a Cutter)
Pistol: 25 Damage (takes 1 shot to kill a Cutter)
SMP: X < 25 [TO CONFIRM]
Shotgun: X > 25 [TO CONFIRM]
Nailgun: X [TBD]
Railgun: X [TBD]

What do I mean by the Pistol's 25 damage being easy to calculate? well, let's say we're playing on the Quad Damage challenge and have a total 1146% Extra Pistol Damage [which you will in the base game], then the equation looks like this:

(25*11.46) *4 = X
286.5*4 = X
1146 = X

Let's try it again; same example, but this time with 774% Extra Pistol Damage:

(25*7.74) *4 = X
193.5*4 = X
774 = X

This means that on Quad Damage, your total Extra Pistol Damage value IS, in fact, your damage value on that multiplier. [Blue did confirm ages ago that 'Pistol Damage' is not the same as the pistol's base damage, so I think I might have cracked the case on this.]
How to survive from 'Sliver Of Mercy' to 'Kill 'Em All' difficulty
1 - Look around the Spawn room [Green Room] for things you will need ONLY. If you have faith in your abilities, you can pick up a few collectibles, but I would advise against that for your first few games. Next, look at the Spawn room walls; you can only traverse the wooden doors with no special colours.
NOTE: Remember to take it SLOW

2 - You are looking for a red circle to open the red doors. this Blood Crest can only spawn in the white rooms on your minimap. Be careful how many smaller doors you open; if there's a way in that room already, you could create too much heat and get overwhelmed.

3 - If there are too many enemies around you, stop picking things up or opening doors and kill as many as you can. Otherwise, you could get overwhelmed if you speed through the level as quickly as you can.

4 - Now that you have the Blood Crest, go ahead and open the nearest Blood Door. Now inside a Blood Room, we're looking for a blue circle this time which can only spawn inside Blood Rooms.

5 - Repeat Step 3

6 - Repeat Step 4, but this time with the Moon Crest on the Moon Doors. In the Moon Rooms, we're looking for a yellow circle now.

7 - Repeat Step 3

8 - Now for the final step. Open the Sun Door with the Sun Crest. instead of looking for a fourth Crest, you now need to fill 7 Blood Machines to power the Elevator at Spawn. Every blood machine generates heat, so you should always observe your surrounding after every blood machine.

9 - If all Blood Machines are filled, your escape is ready to be used. You can go about this 2 ways, one being riskier than the other; you can either take your time or you can run straight for spawn without a care in the world. Be warned that if you're playing Multiplayer, you cannot use the elevator button unless EVERYONE is nearby [in the Spawn Room], THIS ALSO COUNTS THE DEAD PLAYERS

NOTE FOR TAKING ON DIFFICULTIES HIGHER THAN WHAT YOU'RE USED TO: When you get used to how the game works and have good upgraded trinkets for how you want to play, you will move and think faster, but this comes gradually. But one thing to remember is that in the next 3 Difficulties, you will have a chance at Rank 3 trinkets.
How To Survive From 'Time to Die' to 'Unearthly' Difficulty
By this point, you should have all 9 of your trinket slots filled with Rank 2 - Level 5 trinkets, it is the only way to even have a chance at survival. The rundown is more or less the same, but this time we have Demon Chests to look out for. This Demon Chest gives a guaranteed Rank 3 trinket, but at random levels. It's possible to get a Max Level Rank 3 trinket [Max Level is Level.7] which will make life a whole lot easier.

1 - Look around the Spawn room [Green Room] for things you will need and if you are up for the consequences, pick up some collectibles too.

2 - Find the Blood Crest. this Blood Crest can only spawn in the white rooms on your minimap. Remain vigilant when opening doors because on these difficulties, the enemies spawn much faster.

3 - Open the Blood Rooms and find the Moon Crest

4 - Open the Moon Rooms and find the Sun Crest

4.5 - If the Demon Chest is found and is too far from the Elevator, pick it up and prepare for the massive amount of heat that will generate.

5 - Open the Sun Room. and fill the Blood Machines.

6 - Make your way back to the Elevator as slow or quick as you'd prefer and complete the level.
NOTE: If the Demon Chest is on your way back, make sure to take the time to pick it up.

7 - Rinse and Repeat. Only raise the difficulty if you feel comfortable with it. Trust me, I tried to smash Beast Mode while rocking all Rank 2 trinkets and it was a BIG mistake.
How To Survive On ABYSS Difficulty
Now this is probably what you were waiting for. This is by far the hardest difficulty to date and is only available to you if you are Player Level 150 or higher, which means Max Level Rank 3 trinkets + a ring and MAYBE a maxed out Rank 2 [In my case, a maxed out Railgun trinket]. This difficulty will kick your teeth in if you use the tricks and habits you've been using previously. Trust me, I and many people before me know this for a fact. Before we begin, you must learn about the Abyss Wanderers I mentioned several sections ago; these are 3 survivors corrupted by the influences of the Abyss who will only spawn if they are approx. the 34th enemy to spawn after a crest was picked up. It's important to note that they will ONLY spawn one at a time. If you picked up all 3 Crests, the Abyss Wanderers will all spawn like a Boss Rush, but are limited to one spawn per fight. When all 3 of them are dead, not only will it make the rest of the level easier, but it will also reward you with an Abyss Chest IF you complete the level; same rule as the Demon Chest.

As for how the rundown on Abyss works, it's the same at its core, but vastly different when it comes to survival.

1 - Say your prayers and grab what you need. If you want to grab collectables too that's fine, but i would advise against it for the time being. Start venturing into the white rooms when you're ready.

2 - The trick is to go FAR slower than you're used to and keep the map as closed as you possibly can. I know this can feel like an itch you can't scratch but trust me, it will be worth it in the end. For now, find the Blood Crest and pick it up. After picking it up, DO NOT OPEN ANY MORE DOORS. Instead, just wait for enough demons to spawn in the closed off areas.

3 - If enough demons spawned, then you will hear a demonic voice ring out in the level; the first Abyss Wanderer has come for your soul! At this point in time, you want to pick up NOTHING ELSE to avoid generating unnecessary heat. ONLY PICK UP AMMO AND ARMOUR IF IT'S ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY!! The trick with the Abyss Wanderer fight is to stay preferably in a large room with... I'd say a small amount of cover if you need to break a homing projectile or break line of sight. Sometimes the Abyss Wanderer and it's demon friends will spawn in rooms you haven't opened yet, but by this point you know that they will come to you through the black heptograms on the floor, so it's best to just stay put and deal with them slowly. Patience is key, here!

NOTE; ALWAYS be on the move. Even if you think you can hold a chokepoint, you know by now the demons have an ace up their sleeves; their pseudo-teleport speed.

DISCLAIMER; These battles are known to be brutal, so if you have a build that's less Health and Armor savvy [like for example a Melee/Life Leech build or DPS build, you may need to refer to the section below]

4 - When the first Abyss Wanderer is slain, now is the time to move out and unlock the Red Rooms to find the Moon Crest. This part can take a little too long, so I would go around and pick things up to generate more heat [If you're playing with the Quad Damage challenge turned on, picking up 2-4 rubies should be enough heat to do the trick. If not wait about half a minute before picking up more rubies]. This will eventually spawn the second Abyss Wanderer. When he does spawn, stop picking up almost all items and make your way back to that room where you fought the first Abyss Wanderer [or if you find a better room, use that instead]. Remember to take your time, only pick up the CRUCIAL essentials and be patient.

5 - When the Second Abyss Wanderer has been slain, make your way into the Moon Rooms and find the Sun Crest. If needed, generate even more heat until the third and final Abyss Wanderer spawns. You will need to do battle with him in the best room you found for combat. Once more: Be patient, only pick up crucial items and be vigilant.

6 - Now we have the Abyss Chest in our possession, but we still have to complete the level. Open the way to the Sun Room and mess with the Blood Machines. Rather than doing them all at once like you've grown accustomed to, you'll want to fill 2-4 Blood Machines at a time. If you see or hear demons coming for you, stop putting in blood and fill them with lead and knives. When you know for a fact you have a moment of respite, fill some of the missing Blood Machines. Always keep an eye and ear out for danger, because they could show up when you least expect it.

7 - The elevator should now be in working order! But hold on just one moment! You might have a sea of demons to fight through! Remember what I kept saying this whole time; Be patient and be vigilant. If you have a window of opportunity and want to make a run for it, I can't stop you but I wouldn't recommend that on this difficulty.

CONGRATULATIONS!! If you survived your incursion on Abyss, then you now have what could very well be your first Abyss Chest! Just remember that it's chock full of goodies like the Demon Chest and might not give you what you want in the beginning. But the silver lining here is you now know how to survive on Abyss and can maybe teach your friends how to do so too! [Or you can show them this guide, I won't judge]
Abyss Wanderer 'Arenas'
It's possible you might have a little bit of difficulty gauging which room is a good arena for Abyss Wanderers and which ones should be avoided. Granted, the game is RNG when it comes to 'What room Where' and where to place item/weapon pickups. Thankfully, bearing that in mind, I'm slowly making a list of 'Arenas' that I personally look for when spawning Abyss Wanderers.

APARTMENTS ARENAS
#1 -> Apartments Spawn 1 = This is a large room with smaller rooms on the corners, some of which you can hide behind to break projectiles or line of sight. Additionally, there's the elevator in the middle of the room that can serve the same purpose. I wouldn't recommend a Rank 3 melee build using this one, as demons can spawn anywhere in that room and can swarm you if you aren't careful.

Recommended weapon: Whatever you spawn with, excluding the Kukri

Survivability: 4/10
Utility: 6/10
Visibilty: 10/10
Final Grade: C

#2 -> 'Long Hotel Hallway' = This room is a godsend. This room has 3 hallways; one of them is imcomplete and connects a door [in my case, it was the Sun Door] to a broken down room's wall that enemies almost never use, the one at the opposite end connects the same door to a door that is sometimes rusted shut and the last one being the middle hallway. The enemies all pool into the central corridor making it easy to mow them down solo. What's great about it too is you can sometimes move up to the lip of the adjacent room and continue to drive the demons back. Just remember to move back if there's more demons then you have bullets loaded for.

Recommended weapon [If you can find one]: Nailgun

Survivability: 8/10
Utility: 10/10
Visibilty: 10/10
Final Grade: A+

#3 -> Apartments Sun Room A = This Sun Room has a large 'inner room' with a mezzanine overlooking it, the mezzanine accessible by stairs on opposite sides of the room. Occasionally, one of these staircases or both are blocked by doors that can be opened. This is more or less the same tactic as the Bathroom in the section below, except there's no 'De-Agro spot', as i put it. Instead, you can hold those stairs as best you can and have a large mezzanine you can retreat to and hold. But if a Witch of either kind or Abyss Wanderer break through, there might not enough ground for you to retreat to and survive.

Recommended Weapon: Whatever can keep you alive

Survivability: 6/10
Utility: 8/10
Visibilty: 5/10
Final Grade: C
Abyss Wanderer Cheese (OPTIONAL)
So you found your way to this section either because you're decked out in Rank 3 trinkets and can't hold your own in an fight with an Abyss Wanderer [like me] or you want to get the Abyss Chest farm over with as quickly as possible. Or maybe it's both; can't say I blame you since Abyss is INCREDIBLY unforgiving. Luckily, I'm currently on the hunt trying to find your new friends in this difficulty; props and geometry. For some reason, some attacks will be blocked by certain pieces of geometry or enemies will most of the time stop targeting you and just go about their business when you step on certain pieces of geometry. Here are the spots I found to work thus far:

APARTMENTS DE-AGRO SPOTS

This bathtub is found on the second floor 6-ish room apartment with stairs in the main room. The small second floor contains a small living room and a bathroom right next to it; the latter is where you find this bathtub. For this one to work, you want to step as close to the door as you can, while in the bathtub. The blind next to it will be enough for enemies to lose sight of you. In this spot, you can gun or knife enemies to death and poll all the resources they drop in one neat little pile, which is a massive plus for our endgame! ...Though the bodies will not despawn until you get far enough from that room.

Overall though, this is a very good room to farm for Rubies, health, ammo and armour as well as killing enemies with little to no thought or effort + If the elevator/spawn is close by, you can just jump the railing while on the stairs and book it to the elevator if the Heat is low enough.

Survivability = 9/10
Utility = 10/10
Visibility = 6/10
FINAL RATING = A
Abyss Coins Accounting
You may have noticed that this difficulty nets you some Abyss Coins too! The amount you get after every run can have up to 6 values, all of the values dependant on the map size and the player's actions;

Abyss Coins rewarded from the level itself
- 1 Abyss Wanderer slain -> 13 Abyss Coins
- 2 Abyss Wanderers slain -> 33 Abyss Coins
- 3 Abyss Wanderers slain -> 50 Abyss Coins

Abyss Coins granted in the Trinkets Menu
- 1 Demon Chest scrapped -> 7 Abyss Coins
- 2 Demon Chests scrapped -> 14 Abyss Coins total
- 3 Demon Chests scrapped -> 21 Abyss Coins total
- 1 Abyss Chest scrapped -> 77 Abyss Coins

On average, you might get between 127-134 Abyss Coins every run, but if you're really lucky, you can net 148 Abyss Coins! Below are the Abyss Coin costs for every level you can buy for Rank 4 trinkets; these costs have Karma requirements too but for the sake of simplicity, I will include only the Coins obtained from Abyss Chests and Abyss Wanderers. On top of that, these costs will also use the spare Coins that come from those sources. You can find the Karma costs on the UNLOVED fandom wiki for more information:

DISCLAIMER: The numbers below are for a single trinket! Your spare Coins may vary if you upgrade more than 1 Rank 4 Trinket at a time!

Level 2 cost -> 47 Coins = 1 Abyss run [Abyss Chest scrapping unneeded] -> 3 Coins in the Bank
Level 3 cost -> 94 Coins = 1 Abyss Run + 1 Abyss Chest -> 36 Coins in the Bank
Level 4 cost -> 141 Coins = 2 Abyss Runs + 2 Abyss Chests -> 149 Coins in the Bank
Level 5 cost -> 188 Coins = 1 Abyss Run [Abyss Chest scrapping unneeded] -> 11 Coins in the Bank
Level 6 cost -> 235 Coins = 2 Abyss Runs + 2 Abyss Chests -> 30 Coins in the Bank
Level 7 cost -> 282 Coins = 2 Abyss Runs + 2 Abyss Chests -> 2 Coins in the Bank
Level 8 cost -> 329 Coins = 3 Abyss Runs + 3 Abyss Chests -> 54 Coins in the Bank
Level 9 cost -> 376 Coins = 3 Abyss Runs + 3 Abyss Chests -> 59 Coins in the Bank
Level 10 cost -> 423 Coins = 3 Abyss Runs + 3 Abyss Chests -> 17 Coins in the Bank
Level 11 cost -> 470 Coins = 4 Abyss Runs + 4 Abyss Chests -> 55 Coins in the Bank
Level 12 cost -> 517 Coins = 4 Abyss Runs + 4 Abyss Chests -> 46 Coins in the Bank
Level 13 cost -> 564 Coins = 5 Abyss Runs + 4 Abyss Chests -> 40 Coins in the Bank
What I've Learned After A Small Win-Streak On Abyss
By this point in the guide, I have 3 Rank 4 trinkets I need to level before I can consider them viable. I've secured a small stash of Abyss Chests, a trove of Abyss Coins as well as a wealth of knowledge to share. This section is aimed for players decked out in R3 and looking to prove themselves worthy of more power:

Lesson #1 -> The Newcomers To The Difficulty Must Take It Slow, But The Experienced May Speedrun
This is absolutely paramount. Newcomers will not have a single R4 trinket to their names and thus will be slapped around like fodder. Especially R3 Melee builds, like I was. Like I said before, patience is key on this difficulty if you have a low chance of survival. Occasionally, the experienced players might take it slower for you to learn the ropes; these players are golden. When you yourself get enough experience and feel comfortable in this difficulty, you can speed up but always be careful.

Lesson #2 -> Pick Up Only The Essentials At First.
Only the ammo for your gun of choice, armor and health drops [If needed]. Ink bottles, photos, unneeded ammo and rubies can create so much heat that could spawn the Abyss Wanderers early, catching you and/or the entire team by surprise.
NOTE: Demon Cards and Demon Chests, as well as the other Non-Essentials can be used to your advantage to force an Abyss Wanderer to spawn.

Lesson #3 -> No Totems.
While totems grant random boons for each player, hunting for those chests and the silver keys to open them will slow you down and more often than not, it grants you those boons that are useless to you for a specific run. For those 2 reasons, I personally go without them.

Lesson #4 -> Keep Your Head On A Swivel.
It's possible you find a space to hunker down for the large wave of enemies and possible Abyss Wanderer that might have spawned. Some rooms are without a doubt safer than others, but only move out when you're absolutely sure you don't see or hear anything nearby. And for the love of gods, do not squat a room with a black heptagram on the floor; that's an enemy spawner.

Lesson #5 -> Don't Be Afraid To Try Out A Low-Level Rank 4 Trinket.
Sometimes, your new Rank 4 trinket might be outperformed by your current Rank 3 trinket, but one stat would be worth switching out the Rank 3 for. I'll give you an example; My first Abyss Chest gave me the Soulless Panda figurine which, after a long thinking session, decided to swap it with my maxed out Panda of Awesomeness. While my health, armor and damage tanked from slightly to greatly, the Soulless Panda gave me an extra 25% Armor Protection; I was a lot squishier, but I got a lot more worth out of every Combat Armor and Armor Plate I picked up.
AFTERWORD
And this is the end for me. I've taught you all I can. Given time, you may yet reach the depths where the greatest among us do battle. Keep battling those demons, soldier! Show them no mercy!
