Besides the Imperials bring law and order, unlike the stormcloaks who are just racist and have an illegitimate high king for a leader. So if you have even a basic idea of lore you'd see who's the better faction, it's the imperials since they're the ones trying to save humanity from the Thalmor.

The Imperials had the leader of the Stormcloaks in their grasp, they wanted it done quickly so that the rebellion, that only helps the Thalmor, would end quickly. That does include your character... however killing the leader of the rebel faction was a bigger priority, they didn't even have an idea that you were the dragonborn in the first place, to them you're just some shmuck caught at the wrong place at the wrong time.
