The Start
When you first load your character, you should notice 3 important things, your character, a yellow highlighted object on the ground, and; on the right-hand side of your screen; a quest tracker. As you progress through the tutorial on the boat, pay attention to the quest tracker.

For now, there are a few important keys you should be familiar with:

I suggest you familiarize yourself with the contents of the journal, as there are a lot of bonuses when you achieve specified thresholds. This will be more important after the boat tutorial but before leaving the starter island; Elion. Elion is where you go directly after the boat tutorial.


You can move your character around by clicking on the screen with the left mouse button or using the A, S, D, and W keys.
First Quest

You should see the above in your quest tracker. The scattered clothes are the previously mentioned yellow highlighted object on the ground. You can either left click the item or hover over the item with your mouse and click the 'E' key.

Pick up the clothes!

Once you do this, you will see the quest tracker has been updated

At the bottom of the screen you will see a complete quest button

In the future, some quests will be completed by the "complete quest" button, others will be completed at a Non-Player Character (NPC).

Click the complete quest button or push the 'Q' key to open the quest menu. Here you will see that you can finalize the completion of your first quest by pushing "complete" at the bottom right of the quest menu. Do so now!

On to the next quest.
Second quest: is it rocking me or the floor?
As we go along, I will try not to repeat details which I have already given.

In this next quest the game wants you to open your inventory and equip the clothes you just picked up. You can do this by double clicking the clothes found in your inventory.



If you click the clothes once, you will notice a little menu comes up which gives you the option to equip the clothes.

This option will be helpful later on in the game.

Hovering your cursor over items, such as the clothes, will give you details about the item. In this case, you will see that the clothes give 10% defense.

Equip the clothes!
Third quest: Talk to Ciba, old ship cook.
You handsome devil! Feeling a bit dashing? Anyway.

As you move out of the room you woke up in, you will see an NPC with a question mark over his head

You will also notice you are moving slowly, this is because you have a status effect

You can see this in the top left corner of the screen next to your health bar. Hover over status effects to see more details.

Just like with the clothes on the ground, click Ciba , the NPC, or hover over and push the 'E' key.

Continue through the dialogue by clicking "What happened?"

Now complete this quest from the quest menu! Easy enough.
Fourth quest: drunken bragging
After completing the previous quest a quest box should have opened and an accept button at the bottom.

Click accept.

On the table next to Ciba you will see a highlighted knife.

Pick up the knife. Equip the knife. Right click anywhere.

Turn in the quest to Ciba.


5th quest: healing ingredient
Accept the quest from Ciba. I am expecting you are reading the quests in the quest tracker by this point.

If you are facing Ciba the warehouse will be directly behind you, marked by a highlighted door.

Click the door, enter the room, right click to attack the rat. You can click multiple times to attack or just hold the right mouse button down to continuously attack.

Click the dead rat on the ground to skin the rat.

Turn the quest in back at Ciba and accept the next quest.
Next: hangover remedy
After accepting the next quest, a highlighted pot to the right of Ciba is now usable.

Click the pot.

This pot works like many other buildings you will encounter later. There is a timer at the bottom, that shows you how long each cycle will take to process an item or items. In this case, it is 5 seconds. There is a small scroll on the bottom right of the Boiling Pot window which will give details about things which can be made in this structure.

In this case you are going to be making the hellish mixture which uses the two items you have in your inventory. You can transfer items by pushing shift+click on an item or by dragging and dropping the item into the desired location.

Transfer both items.

Take the hellish mixture.

Use hellish mixture.

Complete quest at Ciba.

Accept the next quest at Ciba.
Quest Seven: one good turn deserves another.
To the north of Ciba you will see a highlighted lever

Clicking the level will open the highlighted door farther north.

Click the lever and go through the door.

The door will shut behind you.

Click the highlighted firewood on the ground.

Complete quest in your quest menu.

The "under arrest" quest will automatically start.

In the same room a hatchet is highlighted on the ground.

Click the hatchet.

There are two highlighted walls.

Click the wall next to the hatchet to chop it down.

You can chop down the other wall as well, at this point, if you want.

Complete quest in the quest menu.

The quest "to freedom!" is automatically started and the stairs are now highlighted.

Click the stairs to exit the hold. Note: you cannot come back down here.

Out of the hold: fresh air
After you exit the hold, you will see an NPC to the west, Hope, the boatswain.

Interact with Hope and complete the Fresh Air quest.

Accept the next quest; Magic Night.

Now the game will ask you to open the action menu, "N" key, so you can wave at Ellie. The game gives you a big hand moving up and down to point right where you will find the wave emote.

Click the wave emote.

Turn in the quest at Hope.

Accept the next quest; Vain Expectations.

Walk down the stairs to the southwest of Hope and straight across the boat, going up two more sets of stairs.

Find Steers on the opposite end of the boat from Hope, at the helm.

Talk to Steers.

Complete the quest and accept Confusion.

Walk back down the two sets of stairs and stand in front of Gale.

Open the action menu and click the begging emote, pointed out by the quest mechanics.

Turn in the quest and accept Judgment.

Head north, back to Hope.

Complete and accept Slender Hope.

Now head back down the stairs behind Hope. Go east directly from the bottom of the stairs to find Ben.

Turn in the quest and accept Avid Fisherman.


Quest: avid fisherman and tips
In this quest the game asks you to pick up some bombs which are to the left when facing Ben and throw them at some sharks. It's easy enough.

But as a tip, there are three seagulls on the boat, that you can catch, tame, and gain some easy experience before leaving the boat, never to return.

To catch a seagull, or anything, it has to be in a fleeing or defeated state. There are three types of creatures, passive, aggressive, and neutral. Seagulls are passive and will always flee when you come near, though there are exceptions. Passive creatures are indicated by a green dot on the minimap, and when you hover over this creature the name will be green. In the same ways, aggressive creatures will be indicated by a red markers and neutral will be orange. Normally creatures which can be caught will have to be damaged until they are in a fleeing state before you can capture them, but because passive creatures always flee, you do not need to harm them. After the tutorial you will be able to make snares to slow down creatures to make them easier to catch, but here on the boat you have to be a little more inventive.

They have preloaded the "to catch an animal or bird" action to your '0' key. This is the skill or action you need to use to catch creatures. It might be a little tricky to grab these seagulls but you can usually grab them if you run just a little past them while they are running away before clicking the 'to catch an animal or bird" skill. Another way is to pin them against a wall, which may or may not work.

After you catch your seagull(s), you can find them in your inventory

In the lower part of this area, toward the south east corner, you will see a guy fishing and next to him a bucket of worms.

Click the bucket of worms 3 times to get 3 worms.

Double click each seagull to feed the seagull a worm and tame it. Now double click one of the seagulls to equip it. Click the picture of the seagull just below your player icon to summon the seagull. Now that it is active it can gain experience when you kill the sharks!

Go back to the crate next to Ben and collect your bombs

Open your inventory and equip the bombs you picked up.

Put your cursor over a shark and right click.

You should have killed one shark and got a level for your seagull.

Kill 2 more sharks to complete the quest or all 5 for the extra XP.

Complete quest at Ben and accept "the risky way."
Quest: the risky way
Go back up the stairs to the south where you found Steers.

At the top of the stairs you will see a highlighted crate.

Click the crate to get 2 spare sails.

Click 'C' to go to the crafting menu and it will automatically pull up the "sailcloth wings."

Click the craft button, or push 'B' for craft, or 'V' for maximum.

Head back to Ben and complete the quest.

Accept your last quest on the boat; Fly!

Next to Ben is a highlighted catapult. Click it and you will be done with the boat tutorial.
