This guide provides different methods for obtaining the "Explorer" achievement.

Drive a total of 1,000 miles in vehicles in "Jimmy's Vendetta".

The "Explorer" is currently the rarest and most annoying achievement in Mafia II: Definitive Edition. It is awarded for players who have driven 1000 miles in Jimmy's Vendetta DLC.

By the time you finish all Jimmy's Vendetta DLC plus all the other achievements, you'll probably have around 100 miles registered in your game statistics, leaving you with another 900 miles to farm.

I believe this achievement was created with the Leaderboards in mind, hoping that the players would go about the map replaying all missions several times to improve their score, while passively farming the miles for "Explorer".

If you are an honorable player that doesn't like glitches and exploits, you'll have to farm the 1000 miles the hard way, by actually driving around the city. There are a lot of ways to do this, I'll provide a few below:

For both routes I recommend using the Ascot Bailey fully upgraded, for better efficiency. There are faster cars, but I find the balance between speed and handling to be important to avoid crashing.

The Highway Route

This method consists in performing several laps while staying on the high speed roads. You will have to stop for gas several times, and there's always the risk of crashing, try to avoid it as much as you can.

A single lap yields about 6 miles and takes about 4 minutes (to get 900 miles it would take 150 laps - 10 hours)

The Bridge Route

This method consists in going back and forth while staying on the bridge. You will have to stop for gas several times, the risk of crashing is much smaller, since it is mostly a straight line.

A single bridge lap yields about 1.5 miles and takes about 1 minute (to get 900 miles it would take 600 laps - 10 hours)

Tips

If you are planning to do it, here are some tips that might help:

• Turn off all the game audio, put on some music or chat with friends in Discord.
  
• Divide it into smaller goals: farm 100 or 200 miles per day, that way you wont get so tired.

As of december 2024, it still works.

This method consists in glitching a vehicle inside a specific building, this way, the car starts falling forever and slowly farming miles.

Note that this method is very slow, so it is best to AFK during the farm. It yields approximately 0.5 mile per minute (30 miles per hour), so it would take 30 hours to get the 900 miles.

WARNING: If you are going to use this, please be aware that while on the glitch, the game may crash every 4 hours, so I recommend that you save your progress every 3 hours by going into Options > Turn subtitles on/off.

The Car

You can find many videos on YouTube of people performing this glitch, and almost every time they recommend a fast car like Ascot Bailey or Shubert Frigate. In my experience, I was never able to get it to work using those cars, it kept hitting the wall and never went through. So I switched to Potomac Indian and it worked like a charm.

NOTE: This glitch can also be used to farm the Millionaire achievement

If you're not willing to spend hours farming for this achievement, you can simply grab someone else's save file who has already driven 999 miles, it'll only take about 30 seconds. It's not the most honorable method, but it gets the job done.
