In 1944, as the Allied forces advanced through central Italy, the area now known as "Milky Way" became a pivotal battleground. Nestled at the foothills of the Apennine Mountains, this region held both strategic importance and haunting beauty, shaping its role in the brutal conflict. The area was a part of the defensive line established by Nazi forces, designed to slow the Allied push toward Rome. Fierce clashes erupted as both sides fought for control, with nighttime engagements often lighting up the sky. The soldiers, gazing at the stars during brief moments of respite, nicknamed the region "Milky Way" for the clarity of its night skies.
