The T-80BV is a Soviet main battle tank, which is a deep modernisation of the T-80B. The main difference from its predecessor was the introduction of the Contact-1 dynamic defence system, which significantly increased the tank's protection against shaped charge shells. In addition, the T-80BV received a more powerful 1100 hp GTD-1000TF gas turbine engine, which made it possible to retain the high power density and excellent mobility characteristic of the T-80 series, despite the increased weight due to the dynamic protection system.

The T-80BV was actively used by the Soviet Army and after the collapse of the USSR remained in service in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and other countries. It took part in various military conflicts, demonstrating both its advantages and disadvantages, primarily due to the high fuel consumption of the gas turbine engine and the complexity of its maintenance. Despite the emergence of more modern tanks, the T-80BV is still in service and continues to undergo modernisation.
