Introduction
Yukiusa is a free-to-play mountain climbing game similar to games like Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy.

It's quite challenging and probably frustrating for many players, but it can also give you a feeling of accomplishment as you see how you keep improving.

I only made it to the top once, and this guide is WiP. But I thought it can't hurt to publish this guide, so it can hopefully help other players. :)
Fullscreen Mode, Saving and Closing the game
Before you start playing the game, I'd recommend to read this section first.

Fullscreen Mode / Closing the Game
If you play in windowed mode, accidentally clicking outside the window can be very bad! So it can be a good idea to switch to fullscreen mode.

Now, the settings don't give you the option to enable fullscreen mode. However, you can still toggle fullscreen mode if you press Alt + Enter.

But before you try it out: Keep in mind that there is no direct option to quit the game! If you want to close the game, you can...
  • ...leave fullscreen mode by pressing Alt + Enter again, and click on the X at the top right, or
  • ...press Alt + F4

Saving the Game
If you want to save your progress, you can press Esc, and choose this option:
セーブしてタイトルにもどる
...which means: Save your progress, and return to the main menu.

In the main menu, you can now see the scene where you left off, and you can click on Continue to start from there.
Important: If you click on Start, you start at the beginning, and your previous progress is lost (whether you save or not).

Note: If you quit the game w/o saving, the save file for your previous progress still exists, which can be exploited. IMO the intended way to play this game is like a roguelike, i.e. you should not load a previous save file if you don't like what happened in your run.
Of course it's up to you how you play the game.
But please be fair to other players, and don't post your clear time w/o mentioning such an exploit!
Thank you! :)
Controls and Extra Lifes
The game teaches you what the basic controls are, and IMhO it's more fun to find out on your own how things work. But if you feel lost, here are some basic infos:

Controls
  • Esc: Open the menu
  • A / D: Move left / right (affects midair movement and player rotation)
  • Left click: Small jump
  • Right click: Large jump (press immediately when landing, can be chained, wall jumps possible)
  • R: Hold to restart from last checkpoint (consumes 1 life)

Checkpoints & Lifes
Occasionally you see some signboards labelled "x/y". For each object you place near those by doing a large jump, the value for x increases. If x equals y, a checkpoint will appear.

Lifes can be gained by doing the following:
  • Collecting a nandina leaf / berry item
  • Collecting 100 snow crystals (get 1 crystal for each large jump)
  • Doing many large jumps (I don't know about the exact conditions!)

I hope you found my small guide helpful! :)

If you think something is missing or incorrect, please let me know, and I'll consider adding your info.

If you want to learn more about yuki usagi (snow rabbits / hares), here's an interesting article that I found:

And here's a small yuki usagi figurine I made from wood :3
