John Wukong's First Time Playthrough Guide
By Welfare_Existence
In Black Myth: Wukong there is a lot of missable content you can lock yourself out of if you're not careful. This includes a good portion of the game's storyline, as well as the true/secret ending for the game. There are plenty of guides online that cover this info in detail, but the point of this guide is to cover this content in a way that is friendly to first time players. A lot of placeholder images will be used throughout this guide to avoid spoiling character and boss designs.

This is guide is not a 100% completionist guide for the game, it's just meant to make sure you don't miss out on any important content while exploring the base game. This guide encourages player's to explore the world themselves, but optional maps will be included for reader convenience.

Introduction
About This Guide:
As mentioned this guide is not a step-by-step walkthrough for completing each chapter. A good portion of the content discussed in this guide will be stuff you stumble across as you play the game normally. That said there are a lot of missable objectives/content throughout each chapter, so this guide is here to help you make sure you don't miss them.

The guide will be broken into multiple sections for each chapter of the game. The first section of each chapter will be a summary and checklist of the important/missable content. If you want a mostly blind playthrough then I suggest you only use this section. The second section will cover the missable content in more detail with supporting images and maps. To keep this guide spoiler free, placeholder images will be use in a lot of the visuals.

The main focus of this guide is to help you achieve the True/Secret ending of the game, which is tied to completing the secret questline of each chapter. Each chapter's secret questline must be completed before defeating the final story boss of that chapter, otherwise you will be locked out of completing it. It's also worth noting that completing a chapter's secret questline will give you an item/ability that helps counter that chapter's main boss. The questlines in this game are very simple, but can be easy to miss.

All that said I will also cover other missable/optional content that is not required for the True/Secret ending. If you only care about getting the true ending, then you can ignore this stuff.

NOTE: Even assuming you do everything mentioned in this guide, you can't 100% the game in one playthrough. Assuming you complete all missable content, 100% takes atleast two playthroughs
Important Info For All Chapters
Things to Keep in Mind
While the important questlines for each chapter are mostly self contained to that chapter, there are some important exceptions to this that I will mention now. On your journey you will encounter two characters who you will want to keep track of throughout your whole playthrough: The horse guy and the old wise man. You will need to exhaust all dialogue with these two characters in every chapter. The questlines for both of these characters span from chapter 1-5. Failing to progress their questline during each chapter will lock you out of the later segments of the questline. You technically only need the horse guy's questline for the true ending, however a big upgrade is tied to the old man questline.

Just to reiterate, you also need to finish each chapters secret questline before beating it's main boss and continuing to the next chapter. The secret questlines can be usually be started/completed at any point in the chapter before you beat the chapters final boss, with the exception of chapter 5, which apparently has multiple points where you can mess up the questline. I'll explain this in the Chapter 5 section, which will be the most important section to actually follow along with.

Once you reach Chapter 6 you are basically finished with the true ending requirements. The only thing left to do at this point is complete the secret final boss. The section for this chapter will mostly cover optional (but highly recommended) content.

Additionally there is an optional skandha questline where you have to find/collect a skandha in chapters 1-4. This questline doesn't affect the ending and can be done at any time, and rewards you with an upgrade to all your hp bars.

This isn't really relevant to the guide, but you should also be looting any plants you come across on your journey. There are a bunch of rare item drops tied to looting plants, all of which you need if you are trying to platinum the game. Plants are a pain to farm normally because of their respawn timer, so to save yourself the trouble later you should make a habit of looting them as you play normally.

Note: I'm not sure if you technically have to exhaust all dialogue to progress a quest, but its better to be safe than sorry.

Checklist For Each Chapter:
Required For True Ending:
☐ Find the horse guy and exhaust all dialogue with him
☐ Complete the chapters secret questline before finishing the chapter
Missable:
☐ Find the old wise man and exhaust all dialogue with him
Optional:
☐ Find/Collect the Skandha in each chapter (excluding ch5)
Chapter 1 Summary/Checklist

Summary
In chapter one the secret questline is very simple. There are 3 bells throughout the zone, and you have to ring all 3. Doing so will transport you two the secret zone where you have to beat a boss. You will also come across the old man and the horse guy for the first time in this chapter, so keep an eye out for them.

The only missable item in this chapter is the Wandering Wight spirit which drops from the boss of the same name. He is one of the first bosses you fight. If you beat the secret zone boss you will be locked out of getting this item.

There is a Skandha you can find in this chapter.

Checklist

Chapter 1 Details
Point Of No Return:
If you reach this area, then make sure you finish the secret questline and any missables before proceeding:

Required:

Secret Questline:
The secret questline for chapter 1 requires you to go around the map and ring 3 bells. They look like this:
and have this icon on the map:

You will likely stumble upon them without much trouble as you explore the zone. But if you need their locations they are:
1. Near the asa wolf boss.
2. Near the purple guy boss.
3. Near the snake boss.
After ringing all three bells you will be transported to the secret zone, where you will fight a boss and get some lore. Defeating the boss will give you the fireproof mantle, which is a permanent tool/ability you can use in combat. It will help you survive Five Nights at Freddy's later in the chapter. If you want the missable Wandering Wight spirit you better get it before beating the secret boss. Once you do all of that you are done with this chapter's secret quest-line.

Talking To The Horse:
The horse guy is a character you will first meet in this chapter, and will appear in every chapter hereafter. You first find him tucked away in a cave off to the side of the main route. You'll hear him mumbling to himself when you are near him. Once you find him you will want to exhaust all dialogue with him before moving on.
If you want a map location, he can be found here:

Missable:

Talking To The Old Man:
The old wise man is another reoccurring character who you will first meet in this chapter. He's can literally be found along the main path in this chapter, so you shouldn't really need to look for him. Once you find him exhaust all dialogue with him before moving on.
You shouldn't need it, but his exact location is here:

Wandering Wight Spirit:
The wandering wight is one of the first boss you'll encounter in chapter one. He's a big green dude that whines like a baby. He can only be defeated before you finish the secret questline. Once the questline is complete he despawns, and you will be lock out of getting the spirit he drops.
His exact location is:

Optional:

Skandha:
Each chapter has a Skandha you will find somewhere in the zone. Normally you will find will find a statue head you can interact with to receive the item. Sometime a short cut scene will play where you encounter a character that looks like this:

The exact location for this chapter is:
Chapter 2 Summary/Checklist
Summary
The chapter two secret questline is also very easy, and only really requires talking to one character multiple times throughout the chapter. The character in question is a drunk boar guy you will find later on in the chapter. He'll ask you for various items, which you will find in the zone. Once you finish his requests he will unlock the secret zone for this chapter which has some bosses for you to beat.

The horse guy and the old man also appear in this chapter, so you will need to find them and exhaust all dialogue with them. They aren't that hard to find in this chapter, and you will likely stumble upon them while exploring.

There is one missable spirit in this chapter, which drops from the 2 rats boss fight. You'll fight this boss early on, and to get the spirit you gotta beat the small rat first, then beat the big one.

Starting in chapter 2 you are able to start the optional dragon questline, which spans till chapter 4. This questline can first be started when you fight the giant rat monster towards the beginning of the chapter. There is a destructible wall in his room/cave that can be broken either by either the boss itself, or by using certain player abilities. Once this wall is broken you will have access to a room that starts the dragon questline. Two dragon fights are unlocked in this chapter.

For some reason the Skandha in this chapter has a quest tied to getting it. All you have to do is find 6 buddha eyes from statue heads and then bring them to a weird looking rock. This starts a boss fight who will drop the Skandha.

Finally there is an optional questline where you have to play a hand drum in 3 different spots in the zone. The drum drops from one of the bosses on the main route. A ghost will start talking to you when you are near the spots, but they are kind of out of the way.

Checklist:
Required For True Ending:
☐ Bring the Boar Guy the sobering stone (Secret Questline)
☐ Bring the Boar Guy a jade lotus (Secret Questline)
☐ Bring the Boar Guy the arhat gold piece (Secret Questline)
☐ Defeat the bosses in the secret zone (Secret Questline)
☐ Find/Talk to the horse and exhaust all dialogue

☐ Skandha quest
☐ The ghost boy quest
☐ Start the dragon questline
☐ Chapter 1 dragon boss
☐ Chapter 2 dragon boss
Chapter 2 Details
Point Of No Return:
The point of no return for this chapter is very simple. There's a big ass tornado in the middle of the map. Don't walk into it:

Required:
Secret Questline:
For this secret questline you will need to find the drunk boar guy later on in the chapter. He will ask you for something to sober him up. There is an item called sobering stone, which drops from a breakable vase in the village area or can be purchased from a vendor. If you are thoroughly exploring the zone you likely will stumble upon it without even trying to find it. Once you have the stone you will give it to the boar guy.
The boar guys exact location is here:
The vendor that sells the sober stone is here, although he has a questline required to buy it:
Or you can look for a glowing vase you can break in this village:
Once you give the boar the sobering stone he will tell you to meet him at the Tiger Temple. Once you find him at the temple he will ask you for a jade lotus, which drops from the lootable lotus plants found in bodies of water (any of them).
His second location is here:
After giving him the jade lotus, he will go back to his first spot. When he returns to his first spot you will have to bring him the Arhat Gold Piece which is an item that drops from the Giant Rat Boss, a boss you likely already encountered earlier in the chapter. After some "dialogue" he will open the way to the secret area.
If you missed the Giant Rat Boss it can be found here:
Once the secret area is unlocked you will fight a couple of bosses in the secret area. Beating the main boss of the secret area will reward you with the wind tamer. At this point the questline is complete and you can use the wind tamer to help fight the chapters final boss.

Talk To The Horse Guy:
The horse guy isn't very hard to find in this chapter, and you'll likely run into him by accident. Once you find him exhaust all dialogue with him before moving on.
He can be found here:

Missable:
Second Rat Prince Spirit:
The second rat prince spirit is an item that drops from the rat duo boss fight, which you will encounter pretty early into the chapter. All you have to do in order to get this spirit is to defeat the small rat first, before defeating the big rat. If you do it right then the spirit will drop when you complete the encounter.
The boss fight can be found here:

Talk To The Old Man:
In this chapter the old man can be found near the end of the chapter by the giant tornado. Speak with him and exhaust all dialogue before moving on.
His exact location:

Chapter 2 Details cont.

Optional:
Skandha quest:
The skandha from chapter 2 is a little more complicated to get compared to the other chapters. Instead of just finding a statue head, in this chapter you have to find multiple statue heads and do a short quest. All you do for this quest is look for six buddha eyes, which are found from interacting with statue heads in the rockcrest flat area. The statues look like this:
and are found in this area:
Once you have all 6 buddha eyes, you must bring them to the area where you fought the giant rock monster (who you should've already fought at this point). There is a weird looking rock in this area, that you will now be able to interact with. Doing so will start a boss fight. Defeat the boss to get your Skandha.

Ghost Boy Questline:
The ghost boy questline is an optional questline you can do in chapter 2. To start the quest you must first get a hand drum, which drops from one of the boss fights you encounter along the main route. You fight him on a bridge.
found here:
After you get the hand drum from the boss, you must go to three locations in the zone. When you find each location a ghost kid will start talking to you, and you will get a prompt letting you play the drum. The first location is in the nearby village where you first got the drum.
The next location can't be reached until later in the chapter, and is kind of out of the way. It's by the large locked door in the area where you fought the rat duo boss (on the side that's not accessible at the start):
The final location is nearby where you found the horse guy. You are looking for a well with some skeleton props around it:
Once you play the drum at the final location a short cutscene will play. After the cutscene you will be able to enter the well, where there is an optional boss fight.

Start The Dragon Questline:
In order to start the dragon questline you must first head to the area where you fought/fight the giant rat monster. There is a destructible wall in the bosses room, which you will need to break in order to access a secret area. If the boss is still alive you can use him to break the wall, otherwise you will have to use a strong enough spell/ability to break it yourself (the wandering wight spirit will work for this).
The location is here:
Once the wall is broken there is a crack you can enter. Doing so brings you to the secret area, where you get an item. Once you get this item you will be able to fight the secret dragon bosses in the first 4 chapters.

Chapter 1 Dragon:
For the first dragon fight you have to go back to the chapter 1 forest. You want to go to the area where you fought the asa wolf guy and the wandering wight. In this general area you want to look for a waterfall with some statues near it. When you get near it you'll hear some dialogue talking about dragon deez nuts. You can then interact with the waterfall which reveals a hidden cave. Entering this cave will bring you to a secret area where you will fight the dragon.
The cave/waterfall is found here:

Chapter 2 Dragon:
The second dragon will be in the area where you found the buddha eyeballs. You are looking for a big staircase with a sand waterfall. You'll get more dragon dialogue when you approach it. Interact with the sandfall to reveal a hidden door. Entering the door brings you to the secret area where you fight the second dragon.
The sand waterfall is found here:
Chapter 3 Summary/Checklist
Summary
Chapter three is kinda the odd one out compared to the other chapters. Unlike the other chapters there isn't really a secret zone in this chapter (you'll understand why later). That said, there is still a required questline in this chapter. In the later half of the chapter you will come across a treasure hunter, who is the central focus of the questline. Basically you will help him out a couple of times throughout the zone, and then finally meet him in a cave where "lore" happens. Once you do things you receive a new spell and can continue.

In this chapter you only have to worry about talking to the horse guy, who is found in the final section of this chapter. The old guy interaction for this chapter is a part of a scripted cutscene that takes place on the main route.

As far as missables are concerned there are two missable items in this chapter. The Auspicious Lantern is a curio that you are rewarded with if you kill all 9 of the siren head guys before defeating the main boss of the prison segment. The second missable item is the Apramana Bat Spirit which drops from a big ass bat you fight later in the chapter. This boss isn't hard to find, you just have to beat it before the chapter's final boss.

There is a lot of optional content in this chapter, however I highly recommend you do the questline for the boomer dragon you meet later on in the chapter. Doing so will unlock the Black Myth equivalent of the Rountable Hold.

Note: All the missable content comes before any of the required content in this chapter, so you might want to look at that part first.

Checklist:
Required For True Ending:
☐ Save the treasure hunter the first time (Secret Questline)
☐ Save the treasure hunter the second time (Secret Questline)
☐ Meet the treasure hunter in the cave (Secret Questline)
☐ Find/Talk to the horse guy and exhaust all dialogue
Missable:
☐ Auspicious Lantern Curio
☐ Apramana Bat Spirit
Optional:
☐ Boomer dragon questline (recommended)
☐ Chapter 3 skandha
☐ Fox quest
☐ Captain quest
☐ Chapter 3 dragon boss
Chapter 3 Details
Point Of No Return
At the end of the chapter you enter a temple area, with multiple buildings. It's pretty easy to tell what the main building is, since the whole area leads up to it. Do not enter the building before you finish the required questlines.

Required:
Secret Questline:
The secret questline for chapter 3 can be started right after the turtle segment. Near the shore you will find a guy getting jumped by a bunch of bats. All you have to do is save him and then exhaust all dialogue with him:
heres the location:
You wont see him again until later on in the chapter, where you will find him freezing his ass off on a rock. By this point you should've found the old man along the main path, who taught you a fire spell. You want to use that spell here to save the treasure hunter guy again. Exhaust the dialogue with him again and he will tell you about luscious fruit.
this is his second spot:
After this you want to look for a hidden cave on the edge of the map. There's a stream you want to follow down hill in the forest area, which will lead to the cave. The cave will have a buddha statue in it, and once you approach you will get some "lore". After the lore, you unlock the Spellbinder ability.
The cave can be found here:

Talk To The Horse Guy:
In chapter 3 you won't find the horse guy until you reach the final temple section of the chapter. You'll find him off to the left side of the area, in a big room. Exhaust all dialogue with him before moving on.
his exact location:

Missable:
Auspicious Lantern:
The Auspicious Lantern is a missable curio you will find in the first half of the chapter. You will be sent to federal prison after fighting a big dragon on the lake. While incarcerated you will notice that the prison has a unique mechanic where every couple minutes everyone including yourself will start tweaking out and become evil. While in sicko mode these giant sirenhead looking enemies will become tangible. To get the curio you need to go around the whole prison area and kill all 9 of these sirenhead enemies. You have to do this before defeating the wise captain boss in the center of the prison, otherwise you will be locked from getting it. Upon killing the 9th you will get the curio.

Apramana Bar Spirit:
The bat spirit is very easy to find and get. After the turtle segment you will find yourself on shore. If you walk over to the giant snake skeleton, you will get jumped by a giant ass golden bat. As long as you beat his ass before defeating the final boss you can get his spirit.
Hes right here:

Optional:
Boomer Dragon Questline
On the beach after the turtle segment you will find a boomer dragon in the water. Kick his ass and then exhaust all dialogue with him.
After you beat him he will start whining about how he needs viagra pills from the dog character you met in chapter 2. Return to chapter 2 and go talk with the dog, who will give you the pills.
Once you have the pills from the dog, return to the boomer dragon. He will now be infront of the house on the beach. Give him the pills and he will reward you with the ability to enter the Rountable Hold, where you can access all of your upgrade vendors.

Skandha
The skandha for chapter two can be found on a statue head that is along the main route. There's a little secret route you have to take to actually reach it.

Fox Quest
Along the main route you will run into a fox pelt, who is the fox from the chapter's intro cutscene. If you talk to her she will transform you into a mangy mutt and give you an item to do it again at will.
the spot:
Once you got the item from the fox go to the final temple area and look for the big building on the left side of the area. At this point you can use the item to turn back into a mutt, and enter the building to get the conclusion to the intro cutscene.
its this building:

Captain Quest
During the prison section you will encounter another inmate in a nearby cell who tells you his tragic backstory about how he and his 4 captains were trapped and betrayed.
He will ask you to collect the captains spirits, which are dropped from the 4 captain bosses you fight throughout the chapter:
To complete the quest get all 4 spirits and return to the inmate.

Chapter 3 Dragon
The chapter 3 dragon is the easiest one to find out of the bunch. You literally have to walk like 2 feet away from the shrine on the big turtle's back, where you will find him fishing and chilling.
If you somehow need his location:
Chapter 4 Summary/Checklist
Summary:
Chapter 4 is the most confusing chapter in terms of missable content. A lot of the missable content in this chapter is directly tied into the required content. So I'll included some of the missable content in the details for the required content.

As far as required content goes, the secret area is very easy to access this chapter. That said the secret area itself has a lot of missable content that you can lock yourself out of if your not careful. To get to the secret area of this chapter you have to fight the venom daoist boss twice throughout the chapter. He is a bug guy with a bunch of arms that you will first find in an eggsack in the webbed section of the chapter. After beating him the first time he will re-appear in the temple area towards the end of the chapter. Once you beat him the second time the secret area will be unlocked, where you can fight multiple bosses.

When you first fight the venom daoist, there is a missable armor you can get called Venomous Armguards. You get this armor if you break off all of his arms before beating him (he'll have 4 left).

Once you get to the secret area, you will encounter a guy in purple clothes who will give you a quest to get him a worm egg. You need to finish this quest before fighting the secret areas final boss, if you don't want to be locked out of it. There is also a nearby scorpion boss, who drops 2 missable items, that you can get locked out of if you finish the secret area too early.

There is another missable quest, which is unrelated to the secret questline, where you have to find 4 talismans throughout the chapter. The talismans are all basically along the main route, but you can miss them if you are't paying attention.

As usual, you should talk to the horse guy and old wise man in this chapter. We are reaching the end for this.

The main optional content in this chapter is the 4th and final dragon boss, which will concludes the dragon questline. The "last" of the skandhas you need for the skandha questline also come from this chapter.

Checklist:
Required For True Ending:
☐ First Venom Daoist encounter (secret questline)
☐ Second Venom Daoist encounter (secret questline)
☐ Defeat all the bosses in the secret area (secret questline)
☐ Find/Talk to the horse guy and exhaust all dialogue
Missable:
☐ Venomous Armguards (from Venom Daoist)
☐ Violet Hail Transformation (from secret area)
☐ Stained Jade Gourd (from secret area)
☐ Deathstinger (from secret area)
☐ Find/Talk to the old man and exhaust all dialogue
☐ Talisman quest
Optional:
☐ Chapter 4 dragon boss
☐ Chapter 4 skandha
Chapter 4 Details
Point Of No Return:
In this chapter the point of no return is in the final temple section of the chapter. There's a room with a big tree, and shrine in the middle. One of the exits leads out to a giant field. Do not go out this exit.

Required (And Related Missables):
Secret Questline:
The chapter 2 questline can first be started when you enter the webbed cave section of the chapter. There is an underground village early on in this section, which is the starting point for where you want to go. From this village there is a broken bridge that looks like in connects to a different area of the cave. You have to navigate around the cave actually reach this area. Once you are on the other side of the broken bridge you want to find a room with a big cocoon hanging in its center. You'll know its the right room if there are centipedes hanging all over the walls. Since this area is a pain to navigate this is the route you want to take to get there:
Once you get there you need to start attacking the cocoon, which has a boss healthbar. Once it is broken the actual boss fight (first fight with the venom daoist) will begin, which leads us to our first missable item:
Venom Armguards
In order to get the venomous armguards you need to break all (but 2) of the back arms off of the the venom daoist. The way you do this is by hitting him from behind enough times. Once all but 2 of his back arms are broken, he can be safely defeated to get the item. If you don't think you'll make it you can just lose to restart the fight. Some things to make this easier:
1. Use a bad/un-upgraded weapon to fight him (especially if this is on NG+)
2. Use immobilize a lot to get free back shots on him
3. Use mist step to get behind him
When you beat him he will run away, and you won't encounter him again until the temple section of this chapter. Once you reach this section, you will have to look in another cave to find him again.
Defeat him again and the secret area will be unlocked.
the location is here:
Once you are in the secret area, you will encounter a crying snake lady who will give you some lore about the zone (I don't know if talking to her actually matters). Not long after you will come across a village, or if you explore you might come across the scorpion first. What you don't want to do is go up this staircase until you finish the other content in this area:
Which leads us to the next couple missables:
Violet Hail
The Violet Hail is a transformation ability you get from doing the questline for the purple guy you find in the village.
He can be found here:
He will tell you some lore about evil worm eggs, and then request you find one to bring to him. All you have to do for this quest is go around the village and kill the enemies dressed in yellow until one drops (it shouldn't take long).
Once that is done give the egg to him. He will start tweaking out and then give you your "reward". Once you are done being "rewarded" you will unlock the transformation. This all has to be done before fighting the area main boss.
Stained Jade Gourd & Deathstinger Material
On the other side of the zone, you can find a scorpion on top of a little building drinking his sorrows away. You have two options when it comes to him:
1. You can break his casks in front of him, declaring war. Defeating him drops both the Jade Gourd & the Deathstinger Material.
2. You can just leave him alone and he will join you to fight the secret zone's final boss. If you do this you get neither of the items.
He is found here:
I don't believe either of those parts are required for the secret ending, but once you are done with them you can safely finish the secret area and beat its final boss. Doing so will award you with the weaver's needle, which is practically for this chapters final boss (it hard counters his final phase).

Talk To The Horse:
This is kind of the last time you will need to talk to the horse and exhaust all of his dialogue. This time he can be found trapped in a cocoon along the main route. You'll hear him screaming similar to chapter 1, when you are near him.
It can be found here.

Missable:
Talk To The Old Guy:
In this chapter you will find the old guy on the surface in the temple area. As usual exhaust all dialogue with him.
He is found here:

Talisman Quest:
Throughout the chapter you will encounter these glowing purple shrine things, with a talisman on them. The first time you encounter it a cutscene plays with one of this chapter's characters, where she tries and fails to remove the talisman. Your goal for the questline is to find all 4 talismans and remove them.
The first three locations are inside the cave section:
The final location is next to the point of no return. When you approach it a cutscene plays, and some "lore" occurs:
Once you are done with the "lore", you are finished with the quest.

Optional:
Skandha
The chapter 4 skandha is the last of the main skandhas you need to collect before proceding with the questline in chapter 6. You will find it along the main route for the chapter, slightly off to the side.

Chapter 4 Dragon
The chapter 4 dragon, is the final dragon you must fight for the dragon questline. During the cave section you'll temporarily go outside, where you can find his pagoda on the side of a cliff. If you've completed the other 3 dragon fights from the previous chapters, then the 4th dragon will be there waiting. This is considered by a lot of people to be one of the hardest fights in the game, so beware.

Chapter 5 Summary/Checklist
Summary:
Chapter 5 is where things all start coming together. The horse guy and the old man questlines will both conclude in this chapter, and this will be the final secret questline needed in order get the true ending.

There isn't much in terms of missable or optional content in this chapter. There are no dragons or skandhas in this chapter, meaning the only two important pieces of content are the questlines mentioned above.

There is technically a missable endgame material (Bull King's Iron Horn), that drops from a treasure chest in the secret area for this chapter. But it's very hard to miss, and is only an issue if you are trying to make a certain endgame set & weapon in only 2 playthroughs.

With all that said, this Chapter is the least forgiving with its secret questline. Each step needs to be completed in the correct order, or else the whole questline will be messed up (from what I've heard). I suggest you really pay attention to this section of the guide.

Checklist:

In this chapter there are multiple points of no return. The order of steps in the checklist is how the questline should be followed. That said the main points of no return are:
1. After defeating the second elemental cart you want to make sure you have exhausted all dialogue with the third cart and the pale axe stalewart before proceeding.
2. After the segment with the giant ball trying to run you over, do not progress the story further without finishing the secret questline.

Required:
Secret Questline:
The questline first starts after you fight the first boss of this chapter, the pale axe stalwart. Once you defeat him, talk to him and exhaust all dialogue. He will tell you about 5 elemental courts you need to destroy.
After talking to him, you will encounter the first cart. It's on the main route and literally blocks the way.
Not long after you will find the second cart. It is also on the main route and literally blocking the way.
After the second cart is where you have to be careful. You can continue on as normal until you reach the valley entrance section of the chapter (its the underground segment). Once you reach this point, you should start looking for the third (inactive) cart which will be in the area.
Once you find the third cart interact with it and exhaust all dialogue with. You'll recognize a familiar character.
After you are done talking to the cart, you need to go back to the pale axe stalwart at the beginning of the chapter. He'll be in a slightly different spot. Talk to him and exhaust all dialogue. He will tell you about how its time for him to start getting in on the action.
After exhausting the dialogue you can now progress more into the chapter until you encounter the fourth cart. If you did everything correctly you should see the pale axe stalwart already in combat with the cart.
After the beating the cart talk to the stalwart again and exhaust his dialogue. He will talk about how we need to figure out whats going on with the carts.
At this point you should be safe with getting the secret ending. You can progress the story till right before the final boss of the chapter. This takes place right after the ball part.
After the ball part a cutscene will happen where a bunch of fires are put out. Once these fires are put out a new section of the map will open up, which is where you want to go next. If you follow this new path you should eventually stumble upon the final elemental cart, which will be fighting the pale axe stewart.
After defeating the final cart, talk to the pale axe stewart one last time. The secret area will now be unlocked. Defeat the bosses in the secret area and you will receive the plantain fan, which is the final secret questline item/ability you will unlock. At this point you are now done with all the requirements for the secret ending.

Missable:
Get The Endgame Material
While in the secret area make sure you loot all of the treasure chests. One of them contains an iron bull horn crafting material, which is a rare endgame material. You can only get 4 per play through. One drops from a treasure chest, and the other 3 drop when you defeat the final boss of the secret area.

Talk To The Old Man
This is the final chapter where you will need to talk to the old man. He can be found in the palace section of the chapter in a room with a bonfire in the center. You need to upgrade the original gourd to legendary tier and then talk to him. Doing so will finish the questline and upgrade your gourd to the final tier.

Chapter 6 Summary/Checklist
Summary:
Chapter 6, works differently than all of the previous chapters. Almost everything in this chapter is optional. You can go directly to either of the final bosses from the moment you start the chapter. That said there are a few things I recommend doing before fighting either.

Assuming you followed the guide correctly up to this point, you should have the following abilities/items as proof you finished all requirements:
1. Fireproof Mantle
2. Wind Tamer
3. Spellbinder
4. Weaver's Needle
5. Plantain Fan

At this point, there is only one thing left to do for the true ending. You have to fight the secret final boss, who is located back in chapter 3. If you were paying attention you probably noticed a giant tower during the chapter. If you went inside of it, nothing happened. Now that you have finished all secret quest it is finally time to see what that tower is there for.

You need to defeat the secret final boss before you complete the actual final boss in order to get the true ending. The good thing is that if you beat the actual final boss first, and complete the game, you start right back before the boss fight as long as you don't start new game plus. This means you can get both the bad and the good ending in one playthrough if you wanted to. I don't really recommend it however, since the actual final boss is a pain in the ass just to beat once, and there is no achievement tied to getting both endings.

Since this chapter works differently than the rest I'm gonna cover the recommended optional stuff first.

Checklist:
Optional:
☐ Defeat the Rock
☐ Defeat the big ass grasshopper
☐ Defeat the rhino
☐ Defeat the bird creature
☐ Defeat the praying mantis
☐ Recover the legendary staff
☐ Recover John Wukong's Original Armor
Requiredl:
☐ Defeat the secret final boss
Chapter 6 Details
Point Of No Return:
Chapter 6 doesn't really have a point of no return since you can technically fight the final boss as many times as you want, as long as you don't start new game plus. The final boss section is right after you recover the legendary staff. So if your not ready for the final boss don't continue after collecting the staff.

Optional:
The Rock:
If you collected the four skandha's from the previous chapters, you will be able to fight the Rock.
Your looking for a big valley with a giant rock in the middle. If you approach the Rock he will awaken and the boss fight will begin.
The valley:
This boss fight seems difficult at first until you realize you can literally stand outside of his reach, and he can't really do anything about him. You want to do this until he does a specific combo where he attacks then slams the ground with both hands twice. After this combo his hands will be stuff in the ground for a while, which is your opening to attack. You want to attack the blue crystals on his hands with deal major damage to him when they break. Once you deplete his health bar he will start tweaking out and then slam into the ground, at which point you want to climb onto his back.
A cutscene will play and you will be rewarded with the final Skandha. You can bring these skandhas to the dog character for a permanent upgrade to all 3 of your healthbars. This upgrade might help you with the next fight, but isn't strictly needed.

Fight The Grasshopper
The grasshopper is one of the easiest boss to find in this chapter, since he's giant and can be seen jumping across the whole zone. This boss fight is less of a fight and more of a stat check, to see if you are strong enough for the final boss. The way this fight works is you will be prompted to press and hold down a button, and then you will ride the grasshopper. As long as your health/stamina bar last the full duration of the cutscenes you win. You are supposed to beat this by actually upgrading your HP and Stamina bars, however its easy to cheese this boss if you are lazy.
You can technically start riding the grasshopper at any of the points where he stops on the map, but I recommend you start from his spawn point. If he reaches his final point, you are kicked off regardless of if you have the stats for it.
When you ride the grasshopper, a button prompt will come up with the button you need to press and hold. Once this prompt comes up you need to hold the button until the cutscene is finished. The first stat he tests is your stamina. If you have the stamina for it then you don't need to do anything. If you don't have the stamina than you can use an Ascension Powder to give you a temporary stamina boost.
You'll probably have this already, but if not you got the recipe for it from the first (mandatory) chapter 6 boss. So go to the dog and craft it. Once you have the Ascension Powder, all you need to do is use it right before you start riding the grasshopper.
After you are done with the stamina part of the stat check, you will have to interact with the grasshopper again to start the health portion of the fight. This works like before, but instead of riding the bug, you hold onto his antennae which will burst into flame and cook your ass. If you have the health for it just hold on. Otherwise you can use the flameproof mantle to negate the damage.
You should have this item since it was from the first secret area we covered. Just use it before starting the HP phase of the stat check. (I recommend you ride the grasshopper normally first before wasting items to make sure you understand how the mechanic works). Once you defeat the boss you will recieve Sun Wukong's legendary headgear.

The Rhino:
The rhino is a fight you'll find on a big plateau with a bunch of dead soldiers. Once you land in this area a cutscene will play where the Rhino jumps you.
His location:
This fight is kind of annoying, because your normal attacks will bounce off of the Rhino. You have to first break his horn with heavy attacks before you can attack him normally. Some transformations with also break his horn easily. Once you beat him you will get Sun Wukong's legendary chest piece.

The Bird Creature:
The next boss you will want to defeat is the bird stag hybrid, who you will find by the big red tree. You shouldn't have trouble spotting the tree if you fly around.
Found here:
This boss is probably the most straight forward. You literally just fight him normally. Once you defeat him you will get Sun Wukong's legendary shoe shine.

The Praying Mantis:
You have to defeat the 3 previously mentioned bosses in order to fight the praying mantis. He is located under the yellow tree in the lower section of the zone. If you approach the tree after defeating the other 3 bosses a cutscene will play with some vore action.
The tree is right here:
After the cutscene plays you will fight the praying mantis. He's the hardest of the four armor bosses. Once you defeat him you will get Sun Wukong's legendary arm guards.

The Legendary Staff:
At this point you'll have Sun Wukong's full armor, however to complete the set you will need his legendary staff. You can't actually miss the staff, since it is a mandatory item you come across if you try to approach the final boss section. It can be found at the spoiler tag here.
It doesn't actually matter when you get the staff, meaning you can get the staff first if you wanted. You can immediately turn back after collecting the staff. At this point you have fully completed Son Wukong's Legendary Set. However there is an even more legendary set you can get:

John Wukong's Legendary Armor Set of Black Myth:
The get John Wukong's original armor all you have to do is check behind the initial spawn for a treasure chest in the forest. Open the treasure chest and get peak.
It can be found here:
This armor set actually probably sucks on your first playthrough. But the way it works, is its defense scales with each Great Sage Upgrade you unlock, including the additional ones you get in new game plus. So if you complete the game multiple times this armor set becomes one of the best sets in the game for defense builds. Which also means its the best in the game for offense builds, since one of the new game plus weapons gets damage scaling based on defense.

Defeating The Secret Final Boss:
Finally the moment eveything has been leading up to. It is time to face the Secret Final Boss and get the true ending. If you were paying attention in chapter 3 you should have noticed this giant tower you came across midway through the chapter:
If you missed it, its location is right here:
Enter the tower and approach the wall in the back with a mural on it. A cutscene will play and you will find yourself on a snowy mountain. This is the secret area that was missing when we first did Chapter 3. I'm sure by this point you have already figured out who the secret final boss is going to be. They were the true villain of the story all along, the one pulling all of the strings.

It is finally time you to face off against Astrobot, and reclaim your Game of The Year Title.
Once you have reclaimed your honor, you can finally proceed to the actual final boss and see the end to your Black Myth.

I don't know if every other guide out there just steals information from this one, but for some reason I cannot find a map location for the treasure hunter's second location in chapter 3 anywhere online. Also, everyone says to go to the Forest of Felicity shrine, this is incorrect, you want to go to the Towers of Karma shrine.

You dont need the horse guy for true ending. Believe me because I ignore him & can still get the true ending. Getting the True Ending is as simple as this: complete secret areas in all 5 chapters. There's a secret, however, to get to the Ch3 secret area & thats to defeat all Loong dragos in chapters 1, 2, 3, 4. That's it.

Easily one of the best guides I've ever seen.

Such a great guide. Feels really good following it, it's no more complex than necessary, there are no mature spoilers, and you still have the peace of mind that you won't mess up anything that cannot be corrected or found later.

One suggestion, you might consider adding going back to inactive cart in CH5 after beating Yin-Yang Fish to close out that side quest.

Can only agree with Flextales. Great guide!
