Finnish Defense Forces



The Finnish Defense Forces, also known as the Finnish Defense Forces (fin. Suomen puolustusvoimat, Swedish. Finlands försvarsmakt), is the Finnish armed forces, whose main task is the military defense of Finland.

In addition, the Finnish Defense Forces are tasked with supporting other authorities in rescuing and maintaining order and security, as well as participating in international crisis management. In June 2017, the Defense Forces were given a new task — to provide international military assistance. Finnish President Alexander Stubb is the Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Forces. The Commander of the Finnish Defense Forces since August 1, 2019 is General Timo Kivinen, who was appointed to this position on June 19, 2019. He replaced General Jarmo Lindberg, who had been commander of the Defense Forces since 2014.
