The Entire Guide
The harsh truth is that Mass Effect Andromeda is bad, at least without mods. Yet, EA is always so proud of releasing trash that they actively deter players from modding. The work around for playing modded Andromeda are actually relatively simple once you understand the process.

  1. Find your mods. Usually on Nexus.[www.nexusmods.com] Download them zips as MANUAL downloads. Vortex simply won't work, here.

  2. Download the Frosty Mod Manager. As of writing, the latest version is 1.0.6.3.[github.com]
I'm not totally certain that this is required, due to some odd results in testing, but download the Frosty DataPath Fix Plugin.[github.com]

  3. Unpack your mods and add the FBMOD files into Frosty Mod Manager. Don't forget to Apply the mods.

  4. This is a confusing one. You're going to try to launch the game through Frosty Mod Manager. It may fail or be blocked by the EA App. It's fine. EA can suck an egg, we don't need them.
Either the game launched without any of the mods you applied or it failed. Close the game and the EA App.

  5. Close Frosty Mod Manager. Launch the game via Steam. All your mods should now be functioning.
Notes:

  • Some mods don't work anymore. MEA doesn't get a lot of attention anymore so there is one or two solutions to trying to get mods to work. Either adjust the order in Frosty Mod Manager and hope for the best or find alternatives that act the same on Nexus.

  • You will also need to go through the fake launch steps (Steps 4 & 5) again after playing any other games between sessions. I know.. a total pain

  • Installing a title screen mod will significantly boost the amount of time to identify whether mods are functioning. I use this.[www.nexusmods.com]

IF YOU ADD ANY MOD OR CHANGE ANY ORDER TO THE MODS YOU MUST LAUNCH THE GAME WITH FROSTY THEN CLOSE IT AND LAUNCH IT VIA STEAM TO HAVE THEM BE APPLIED.

Alternatively, some of the steps are elaborated on in Chatty Sisa's Youtube video. It's a little dated and some of it doesn't work the same, but it is a good reference point if you get confused.

Thanks for reading, hope this helps.

I'm not having any of the common issue's. Frosty mod manager refuses to full launch, I just get an unhandled exception error message. I tried When I launch Frosty MM I see this.
The given key was not present in the dictionary.

Nexus mods is shit. Is there another web with all mods?

EA Launcher was being obnoxious indeed. But I de-activated all mods in Frosty, had Steam verify & redownload the game files, applied my most important mods again and now it works fine. Glitchy, but fine.

Here is an alternative method which i am running as i really wanted to run vortex :) :

1. Download vortex (default mod manager for nexus)
2. install the community extension for andromeda in vortex
=> this installs the latest frostymodmanager

3. download and install all the mods on nexus you want into vortex.

goto:
4. ...\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Mass Effect Andromeda\FrostyModManager

5. run the executable in there and select and apply the mods you installed via vortex (already yes)

but you need to start andromeda within frosties to actually launch with mods enabled.

this works for me greatly. After i really tried the mod manager fix etc. or running it from within vortex. this was the way i am playing :)

Jordan, does the EA app try to open at all?

I have tried to install Frosty Mod Manager a few times already, but it never seems to work despite having followed on steps. It just doesn't open at all. Any ideas?

I was just going back to play again. It's a shame the game is so abandoned, I simply cannot be assed to do those fake launch steps every time I want to play.
