> 1. Introduction
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is undeniably a truly amazing game. It features a vast, carefully crafted, open world, an interesting storyline, different factions to join and a wide variety of quests and activities that can keep you occupied for several hours.

One of the first dilemmas you face, early in TESV, is the one concerning the class you will follow and the type of armor you will be using. Will you go with the robust heavy armor of the warrior, the nimble light garb of the thief or you just want be a mage? The choice is pivotal and depends on personal playstyle, but even after the decision is made, new questions arise: “What are the top armors of this class? What are their stats? How can I find and compare them?”. This leads the player to start searching for info from the numerous sources out there (videos, guides, sites etc.) and that can take a lot time because these are usually quite analytical or simply fragmented.

The present Compendium is an original attempt to create a complete, Steam based, armors “guide” that will provide gamers a new alternative towards the searching and comparing of TESV different armor sets. Its main aim is to offer an easy, fast and comprehensive way in checking the various pieces specs and info, gathering them and making them available for you, all in a place. Accordingly, it was designed to be optimal both for the casual player as well as for the experienced collector of armor sets.
> 2. Methodology
This Collection was composed with the utilization of empirical methodology and a series of official data regarding The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (TESV). The images, cards and tables displayed here are original work and were created by the author. Data and statistics presented are either primary data originating from the game itself (received via the console) or come from - reliable- official and unofficial open access sites. Any tips or comments provided are based on the author’s own ingame experience, have been tested, but individual experience may slightly vary.
> 3. How to use this Collection
Before moving to the main part, it is useful to first explain how this “guide” is structured. If you already know or just want to see the sets... SKIP this part.

> The entries of the current Compendium are presented in an alphabetical order and are categorized in 3 groups: I) Light Armor, II) Heavy Armor and III) the Unique Armor sets.

> Each entry includes A) a specific Armor Set Card (ASC), B) a Table of data and C) a short written section where some info are provided. The ASCs and the Tables were promoted as the most efficient way to neatly and laconically outline the otherwise chaotic armor specs and info. With that been said let's proceed to our ASC example (Image 1.).

A) As we can see, apart from the image, the ASC includes 3 rows (2 up and 1 down). These contain all the important information needed in a compact manner. Those are the following:

Image 1. Armor Set Card example

On the top row is displayed:

1) The NAME of the armor set and next to it in abbreviation we can find the ADD-ON* that this set belongs to (if it belongs to any).

On the second row from left to right we can see:

2) The CLASS that this armor belongs to, that is Heavy or Light.
3) If it is CRAFTABLE OR NOT by the player.
4) If it is ENCHANTABLE OR NOT by the player.
5) The REQUIRED CRAFTING PERK you need in order to craft this armor.
6) The REQUIRED MATERIAL needed to further upgrade this armor.

On the bottom third row are displayed:

7) BASE ARMOR RATING (BAR)*.
8) WEIGHT. The weight that this set adds on its user.
9) VALUE . Basically how much it costs in septim coins.

* The current official add-ons which introduced new sets are 2, Dawnguard [DG] and Dragonborn [DB], but as the TESV: Skyrim Special Edition allowed the users to gain access to a few armors that previously belonged exclusively to the Creation Club, a third one is added [CC].

* That is the net value that the armor piece has, without counting the benefits added by the player’s level and possible perks. In other words the armor rating that the piece would originally have if, when you acquired it, you were 0 lvl and had no perks, at all.

* The ability to craft or enchant the set (values 3 & 4) is also presented with an color indication.

II. The Base Armor Rating for each part and the total of the full set.
III. The Weight of each part and the total of the full set.
IV. The Value of each part and the total cost of the full set.
V. A List with the Crafting Materials needed to craft each piece and the full set.
VI. The Form ID* of each distinct piece (This is an 8-digit hex number unique for the identification of virtually everything inside the game, from armor to characters etc.).

* It is worth noting that the first 2 digits of the IDs differ between the core game and its add-ons. With a TESV: Skyrim Special Edition and all add-ons installed: 00 is used for the core game, 01 for the first Update module, 02 for the Dawnguard, 03 for the Hearthfire, 04 for the Dragonborn and finally 05 & 06 for the free CC content added in the Anniversary and Special Editions.

C) The written section provides a few short information and suggestions on where you can acquire the armor and sometimes it may also have some tips that can make its acquisition or crafting even easier or it can include a small comment regarding this set.

Now with all that been finally cleared let us move to the Entries!
> 4. Light Armor Sets
Light Armor provides less protection than its heavier counterpart, but the same time it is more flexible, weights a lot less and slows down only a fraction the user’s movement speed. Those traits make it ideal for all kinds of raiding and covert ops that value sneaking, agility and speed over brute force and raw defensive capabilities.

Image 2. “Light Armor Skill Tree”

As such it is only natural that its perk tree belongs in the Thief skill set (Image 2.) and its upgrading is directly linked with adopting the respective playstyle. This basically means that, the more damage you receive while wearing this type of armor, the more this skill's level will increase and the same time you will receive skill points that can be used in order to further upgrade Light Armor perks. Those perks will improve the armor's effectiveness and overall performance in various ways, adding special abilities such as increased carry weight and stamina regeneration, and ultimately, will allow the user to enjoy the same level of protection that only a heavy armor could initially provide.
4.1 Amber Armor [CC]

– Acquisition:

a) After finding and defeating Thoron in the sewers, during the “Restoring Order” Saints and Seducers (S&S) quest, you are able to loot his workbench. There you will find a special note that is named “Note on Amber and Madness Ore”. Reading it begins the quest “Amber and Madness Smithing” that requires you to find and kill the mad arcane blacksmith Evethra, whose journal will allow you to craft Amber and Madness gear. Evethra’s camp is located in the Nordic Ruins north of Mistwatch (Eastmarch), due east of the Atronach Stone.

– Tips:

Madness and Amber Ore can be easily found and purchased, in small quantities, from the Khajiit caravans that stop at Whiterun and Solitude.

> 5. Heavy Armor Sets
Heavy Armor provides superior damage protection but that comes at a cost. Bulkier than its lighter counterpart it significantly affects the user’s movement speed, stamina regeneration and carrying capacity alike. However its high protection from damage is a great choice for the player that prefers to win fights with the decisive strike that usually only brute force allows.

Image 3. “Heavy Armor Skill Tree”

Being the Warrior’s favorite this armor type falls under the homonym skill tree (Image 3.). Likewise it’s upgrading is linked with adopting a fighter’s perspective, meaning you need to always wear it when you are smashing your enemies aground and around. The damage received while using Heavy Armor counts towards the leveling of the skill and grants points that can be invested in perks. Those will improve performance, will grant special abilities and ultimately make the user act like a living tank.

6.12 Worn Shrouded Armor
– Where to find it:

a) A full set can be found inside the Dawnstar Sanctuary (The Pale) which is visited during the “The Cure for Madness” Dark Brotherhood quest.

– Tips:

The lack of enchantments make this specific armor set many times more valuable than its normal shrouded counterpart. The utilization of the enchanting perk “Extra Effect”, that allows 2 enchantments to be placed in each piece, enables the Worn Shrouded Armor to become a highly customizable and quite “flexible” D.B. light armor that can be easily used by both mages and rogues. Its only disadvantage lies in the fact that it cannot be further improved, thus maintaining its original, admittedly low, base armor rating.

> 7. Final Remarks
Choosing the best armor that fit your distinct playstyle is a very important aspect of this game and can definitely make playing easier and more enjoyable. This Compendium tried to introduce an easy, fast and comprehensive way that would allow the reader to search and compare the different TESV armor sets specs, values and info. In order to do so the various scattered data were, meticulously and copiously, gathered, then were incorporated in a single complete “guide” and finally were displayed via the form of the ASCs, the Tables and the comments provided in the present work. It is my sincere hope this work will benefit you, help you save time and allow you to make the best choice according to your own needs. Enjoy!

The Dragonscale Armor, like its heavy counterpart the Dragonplate, is a base game armor set. However, the Studded Dragonscale is an armor that belongs to the CC Alternative Armors collection. It is content that was exclusively available for "Anniversary Edition" DLC and is not included in the present guide.
