Not quite the Brain Scorcher. That turns Stalkers into zombies (with hellified good aim). This is measuring activity to charge an artifact (and triggering a cutscene).

I don't wanna know so plz don't tell me, but based on what I have read, this reminds me of the Brain Scorcher from SoC.... no idea what a scanner is, maybe I'll find out =>
