By WalkOffThe3arth and 2 collaborators
This is a guide for not only new players, but for those that feel like they just can not stay alive long enough to truly experience what this game has to offer.

Your First Weapon
Once you load in start searching for resources like wood, fiber, and stone.

Once you've located your first tree you can use your left mouse button to peck away at any tree to gather both wood and fiber.

Use the fiber to craft rope for your first weapon, the bow.

Then use the rope and wood (that you collected from the tree) to craft a bow.

Now craft you some basic wood arrows to get you started (this will require you to locate and collect stone the same way you collected wood, with your face).

Some Much Needed Tools
Now with a very basic understanding of crafting, it is time to move to the next step, TOOLS!

Use the materials you've gathered from the tree and the stone to craft a pickaxe and a wood axe.

These tools will allow you to farm materials much quicker than using just your face.

This is also a great time to craft yourself a hammer for base building.

Welcome Home
You now have a weapon to protect yourself and the tools to start your first base.

As a new player I highly suggest finding a discreet location far away from the general public.

It's best to get started on a low population server until you understand the basics.

Using your tools, start focusing on cutting down trees until you get a healthy supply of wood and fiber.

Once you have found a location that suits you, start slapping down foundations using the hammer.

With the hammer in your hand, right click to bring up the build menu and select the foundation.

Keep your structure simple and quick when starting off. A 4x4 will get you started without hindering you too much.

Use the same method to get your walls, ceiling and doorway built.

Locking It Down
With your initial structure now built you are going to want to put on a door, craft a nest, and most important, craft an IDOL (this is your base marker and is used for base upkeep).

Use TAB to access your crafting menu and start by crafting a door.

Once crafted you can equip the door to place it in your doorway, then you can set a multi digit pin to lock your door.

Next, you will want to craft an IDOL.

Place the IDOL anywhere inside your structure and place wood inside of the IDOLs bowl to keep your base from decaying. *THIS STEP IS COMMONLY OVERLOOKED BY NEW PLAYERS.

If/when you upgrade your base, the materials that are required to upkeep your base will change and need to be placed into the IDOLs bowl.

Now you will want to build yourself a nest and place it inside your base. This will be your spawn point in the case that you die.

You will need to use plant fiber to craft 5 rags in order for you to then craft a nest.

You can build multiple nests on the map to have multiple places to spawn if needed.

Settling In
Things are finally coming together and you have a place to call home, now what?

This is the time you will want to start building some storage. Storage containers can be found in the crafting menu, make multiple.

After you have some storage, start making some short runs for materials like stone, iron, sulfur, wood, fiber, and scrap.

Try your best to avoid any players or NPCs for now. It is likely that players will be well geared and triggering any NPCs will draw unwanted attention.

In your down time start looking into upgrading the walls on your small base as the LvL 1 walls will easily be brought down by any curious opponents that might come across it.

Do not get disheartened if things do not initially go as planned, they never do. Take what you have learned and build on it.
