I have plenty of worries in regards to her writing and the lack of nuances surrounding it, but if the character serves a purpose/has a great dynamic with the rest of the cast/insert whatever reasons people find them likeable, then I don't really have problem with it either.
But their hard shell was just a protective mechanism. They have layers beneath of all that gruff, that (slowly) peels away and reveal their true, best self, and that what makes them so memorable even till today, tens of years later.
Maybee I have to discover it myself, but I have yet to see a positive character analysis of this person. And if the main intent was to build up a lovable character that was so relatable we couldn't help but sympathize with them, well, this isn't working
So I assume that Taash just suffering from poor editoring, still my imho tho.
I think these two have similar patterns when it comes to their inner struggles (in one way or another), but instead of getting all preachy at us for 'misunderstanding' her they can show it to us instead why they feel that way maybe?
Buuut, rant aside, I'm kinda glad you still able to pick up the good pieces. Maybee one day I'll give it a go
But yeahh, Sociolinguistics can be kinda.. something sometimes.
I remember things like addressing someone as 'mademoiselle' can both be endearing and offensive depending on the context/person so... yeah
I guess that leads to my next point. People may like/dislike certain characters for multitude of reasons, but I think maybee they can write her character growth to be less...preachy?
I get it when characters are supposed to be a dumdum, like Ben from TWD1 and I was hella gemes for his remarkable ineptitude, but that was on brand
Ben was written to be clumsy. This right here is clumsy writing
I'm getting Mass Effect 2 vibes here, from what you've described at least. A straightforward main plot with alooooot of (pretty much) essential secondary quests, a 'the journey makes the destination' kinda thing.
But yeahh, I've seen the clips of that scene you mentioned and I can't lie it's hella rough. I think there has to be more graceful/less jarring ways of delivering her personal struggles, but oh well.
I can think of quite a handful of ME Trilogy subplots/character backstories with the same/similar silver lining to it but with more refined delivery (and actually contributes to the main plot as a whole)
I guess BioWare oughta get their old writers back
At least you got your money's worth with the gameplay and the scenics for virtual photography
