Introduction
Hello! This is my first guide on Steam and this guide showcases how to add custom music into Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 with ease! I just did it for this tutorial now and it took under 10 minutes to do so.

Res' tutorial on how to replace all in-game audio is an excellent tutorial and should be used for modding all sorts of audio but this one focuses solely on the music. Additionally, all of the links I provide will be pulled from Res' tutorial.
Please give him thanks and many awards.

Without further ado, here is how to add music to Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 easily!
Step 1: What you will need!
You will need the following things to be able to follow this tutorial:
Step 2: Get everything set up!
Download the software in the links above and place them in a folder of your choosing. Next, open Steam and navigate to your copy of Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, hover over the gear icon to pull up a drop down menu. Hover over manage and then select Browse Local Files to open the game folder.

Navigate to the sound folder (use the bar at the top to select the correct folders) and copy over all of the BGM files to the folder where you put your audio tools...

When you have done all of that, your folder should look something like this...

I'd recommend backing up the BGM files now in a folder call "backup" just so you always have the original files.
IMPORTANT NOTICE!!
Sorry to stop the tutorial for a second but if you are modifying the BGM.acb file, it is important to read this section. If you are only modifying any of the update music (BGM_DL1 for example), you may skip this section...

This image shows the file open on Eternity Audio Tool with a bunch of highlighted segments. I will do my best to explain what these mean.

The songs in GREEN: 1- 10 are all songs featured in Adventure Mode. They can all be played in other modes but they are forcibly played during cutscenes in Adventure Mode.

The songs in RED: They are not usable in gameplay and all of these tracks are available in the Theatre to listen to.
Most of them go unused in game (except 11 / Title as that plays in the Title Screen when booting up the game) and all of these tracks don't have loops (Except 37. For some reason it has a loop but was cut from playable songs [could be a bug]).

Later in the guide, when selecting to add a loop, uncheck "Use loop data" and select don't loop for all red songs except 37.

The songs in BLUE: Can be selected during gameplay and are able to loop but forcibly play in certain areas of the game.
  • 12 / Menu - Plays in the Main Menu
  • 13 / Select - Plays when selecting a Character in any mode
  • 14 / Adv - Plays in Adventure Mode on the stage select screen
  • 15 / Internet - Plays in the Online Menu
  • 18 / Swap_Puyo - Plays in Swap mode while on the Puyo Puyo side
  • 19 / Swap_Tetris - Plays in Swap mode while on the Tetris side
  • 20 / Fever - Plays when a Fever occurs in Big Bang and Endless Fever
  • 21 / Big Bang - Plays in Big Bang after Fever ends (The section with the black hole where you attack opponents)
  • 24 / Toko_p - Plays before starting Endless Fever (After selecting character)
  • 31 / Pinch - Plays whenever a player is in danger of losing
  • 35 / Lesson - Plays in any lesson mode

The song in PURPLE: Is just straight up missing. Not in sound test and not during gameplay. I don't know if it even has a purpose. Please ignore this one...
(let me know if it can be heard in-game and I'll update the guide accordingly)

Finally the frequencies in songs 24 and 27 are highlighted in yellow and that is because they are the only ones that take that specific frequency. When using the Looping Audio Converter later, please switch 48,000 to 44,100 for those two songs specifically.

Again, very sorry for the derailment but I figured this is essential to know, especially if you are planning to make a music mod.
Step 3: Download new songs
Getting back on track, open up your web browser of choice and go to Smash Custom Music[smashcustommusic.net]
Obviously the website will look different for most people but I have mine set with a theme. Scroll to the game of your choice. For this example guide, we will do Persona songs. Select the game and then the song of your choice and then download the BRSTM file.

By downloading and using the BRSTM, we skip having to manually create the loop ourselves saving a lot of time and potential errors with the looping. Of course, this website mainly has music from video games and thus won't have much in terms of licensed songs or film / TV OST but you never know.
If you searched the website and your favorite song isn't here, then you will need to follow Res' tutorial in order to create your own loop.
Step 4: Making the HCA files
Start by opening the looping converter tool and selecting the BRSTM files that you have downloaded. You may select as many as you want to create at once, it won't affect the looping of each song.
Ignoring the box at the top left for censoring purposes, what you want to do is select Output Format and scroll till you find "[VG Audio] CRI HCA". Then check the box that says "New Sample Rate" and type in the sample rate of the track.

For all BGM update tracks and most of the tracks in the BGM.acb file, enter 48,000.
For tracks 24 and 27 located in the BGM.acb file, enter 44,100 (do these two separately from the other tracks).

Leave everything else untouched and select start on the bottom right of the application. Once the green bar is done, you can close the app if you have no more songs to convert. All finished HCA files will be in the output folder found within the looping converter tool folder as shown below...
Step 5: Replacing the Songs
Open up the Eternity Audio Tool, hover over File, and select open. After selecting the BGM.acb file of your choice, select one of the tracks below and then select Replace.
Once you do that, you need to select the HCA file you want to replace that song with. Go to the output folder and to show all of the HCA files, go to the bottom right (highlighted in red) and click on it to show a dropdown menu, then click on HCA File.

Afterward, a little window will pop-up asking if you want to loop the song. Leave the option checked and press loop.

(Reminder: Please refer to IMPORTANT NOTICE if dealing with BGM.acb as some songs require you to uncheck the box and select Don't Loop)

After you replace every song in the file (or only the ones you want to replace), you can click a song and then Play to hear it in the audio tool (the song won't loop in the tool, it will loop in-game). Once you are done with that, click File then Save (or Save As if you wish to make a copy) and then breathe as you complete this tutorial.
Testing the mod + Final Notes
To test if your mod works, simply move the new BGM files where you first found them and run the game. Alternatively, if you have HedgeModManager and don't want to touch the game files, simply replace one of the music mods you have (if any) with the BGM files you made. You can get to the mod folder from the Local Files mentioned in Step 2.

Once in-game, get past the title screen, enter options and then theatre to hear your new music.

Many thanks for following this tutorial. Please let me know if there are any issues with my tutorial and I hope you have a great day!!
