Their is a hint in Game, if you read the notes the Random traveler you get the first handful of days.

It's a shame that there are so many weirdly specific recipes for stuff that seems like basic progression points in building up your base, with no real clue how to get them. Game needs a reference encylopedia widget added eventually.
