If the AI were less overcautious it'd help too, usually every third light there's a traffic jam because one or more cars stop dead as they don't know what to do lol

Good share! If the timer had adjustable difficulty it might be OK. But, That would require too much planning for the dev team. Many games are about finding the sweet spot on difficulty.
