Conviction Points and Where to Find Them
By TAOBECIN NOV NORAB
Are you frustrated by trying to hit 500 Dogmatic and ending the game at 485 instead? Did you try to be a good little Heretic but somehow fail to hit rank 3 before going to Commorragh? Or do you want to try and plan out how to get the rank 2 benefits of both other convictions while staying on your chosen path? Let's figure all of that out.

With well over 1,000 hours on the game, I have done multiple playthroughs on each conviction and have made notes on where to get conviction points and what those values are. With the release of the Void Shadows and Lex Imperialis DLC, there are enough points available that you can reach 500 without being as strict as before (previously you had a max of like 524 with every available choice); with the DLC included it seems like you can get around 720 or more on a single conviction.

I have confirmed that you can achieve a 5/2/2 split, and even reach 3/2/2 by the start of chapter 3.

Hopefully, this can be broken down into an easy to read list, showing the places where you have to choose 1 option, or where you have the freedom to make non-conflicting choices.

Work in Progress
LEX IMPERIALIS: I have not done an exhaustive sweep for points in the new content added with Lex, however, I have done a full run of Lex and ended with a spread of 720/135/80, which is 935 points. You only need 590 to fully max a 5/2/2 spread. So rather than the original release of the game where you had to be precise in order to hit rank 5, there is now almost double the points that you'll need so this guide is less necessary than ever! Which is also why I was slow to update for Lex content...

NOTICE: Some of these values are from before the [12/10/24 PATCH] which altered the values of some of the conviction rewards, particularly in chapter 4, by increasing the amount given. I have updated some but others may still be using the older values. In general the old +20 rewards FROM THE BASE GAME give +30 now (the +20 from DLC segments are still +20) and the planet upgrades give 40 rather than 20.

---

This guide is a work in progress based on notes I was keeping in a .txt file. I've tried to explore as many options as I could at places where I know conviction points are given out and check if there is an available option for every conviction, but sometimes the requirements for being given a choice are not always easy to find (can be based on past decisions, your chosen origin, your triumph or darkest hour, etc.).

Any input or corrections are appreciated.

I have added a section at the end of the guide for conviction choices that do not provide points but do provide some other benefit (even if it just skipping a skill check), although some may not have an immediately noticeable result so I'm unable to mark down the benefit for certain. I should probably install ToyBox so that I can have it display the etude trackers on each choice.

I previously tried to "total up" how much was available in each section but these are very inaccurate for now because of the addition of new choices and the altering of point values. Suffice to say that you can hit rank 2 shortly into chapter 2, and can hit rank 3 shortly before chapter 3, and if you're really maximizing you can hit rank 4 shortly before chapter 4 (before they added the first DLC you would not hit rank 4 until partway into chapter 4). You can hit rank 5 before going to Euphretes II and end up with almost plenty of extra points at the end, but most of these are big drops from core story segments that require rank 3 or 4 anyway, so it's not like you could take the other choice (but you could take a no-conviction option).

Formatting

I've chosen to break this list down into sections based on progress in the game, and subsections based on location of the checks. Generally they will be listed in order from earliest to latest, but some sections will give you the option when to go to certain areas.

I will also be breaking the lists up into "1 of 3" in which choosing one locks you out of the other two options, "1 of 2" which gives you a choice between two options but doesn't include the third conviction in a related check, and "solo points" which are free to pick up and don't lock you out of other options.

The tables will show the number of points gained, the in-game description for the choice made (from the biography screen), "RR" meaning Rank Required (0 through 4 - None, Follower, Adherent, Votary, Fanatic, and excluding Zealot since points above 500 no longer matter), and any notes that I have regarding that check.

Heinrix will "disappear" Idira, Yrliet, and Merazhai if you ask him to. Awards 8 Dogmatic points each (for a total of 24). Can be done at any point from Chapter 2 onward. I'm putting this at the end because you may want to farm other types of points off of their quests if available before turning them in.

Total points available:
Choose 1 of 3: 20 (any?)
Solo Points: 0-24 (Dogmatic)
Non-Point Conviction Choices (All Game)
Choices Unlocked by Convictions
Some choices are available that require you to have a certain level of conviction (such as [Iconoclast - Follower]) but do not reward points. Usually these are used to automatically succeed at a dialogue without requiring you to pass a skill check

Companion Index
[Planned] This section is intended to be a summary of all companion-related choices so you can quickly look up what points you can grab from dragging them through their quests or choosing to have them killed...

Also going to write down what the "enemy version" of each companion is built as, seeing as they seem to have pre-set archetypes, talents, and equipment as enemies. It's curious to see what the designers "intended" their build to be.

  • Yrliet (Quetza Temer)
    Homeworld: Voidborn
    Origin: Children of Asuryan
    Archetypes: Operative / Bounty Hunter
Weapon: Eye of Hecaton (Aeldari sniper rifle), Shuriken Catapult

Other Equipment: Ranger's Visor, Sniper Gloves, Wraithbone Necklace, Combi-Tool, Blessed Cape, Frag Grenade

    Conviction: Dogmatic 5

  • Argenta the Scourge (Epitaph)
    Origin: unique Ministorum Priest
    Archetypes: Soldier / Master Tactician
    Weapon: Imperial Pride
    Armor: Sororitas Power Armour
Unique Talent: Throng Buster (no description)
    Conviction: Dogmatic 3

  • Cursed Reflection (Epitaph)
    Origin: None?
    Archetypes: Warrior / Assassin
Weapon: Life-Draining Sword / Eruption (heavy melta)

    Conviction: Heretical 3

  • Glorious Reflection (Epitaph)
    Origin: None?
    Archetypes: Warrior / Arch-Militant
    Weapon: Anti-Vehicle Revolver / Auto-Striking Power Sword
Armor: Panoply of the Assassin (light)
    Unique Talent: None
    Conviction: Dogmatic 2, Heretical 2, Iconoclast 2

  • Argenta (Epitaph - the Yoke)
    Origin: unique Ministorum Priest
    Archetypes: Soldier / Bounty Hunter
    Weapon: Imperial Pride
Armor: (cannot check, cannot be looted after this battle)
Other Equipment: Ranger's Visor (determined from stat bonuses)
Unique Talent: Imperial World - Military Traditions (no description), Field Medic (normally a Warrior talent)

Other Equipment: Knuckle Guard (determined from stat bonuses), Augmented Gloves (determined by stat bonuses),
Unique Ability: Assail (telekinetic aoe damage + prone), [draft] Telekinetic Shield (obviously a leftover ability from telekinetic psyker beta, grants armor to ally)

    Conviction: Dogmatic 2

  • Ulfar (Epitaph - the Yoke)
    Origin: Death World
    Archetypes: Soldier / Arch-Militant

Okay, that should be one set of Lex updates (and a few others). They pretty much all seemed to be 3-way split choices and unavoidable if you're playing through the DLC (you miss one if you don't take Solomorne to Commorragh, but most companions have a specific interaction in Commorragh).

Added the note that Pasqal blocks the heretical sermon, and also added that Argenta probably does too since I'm pretty sure having her is required to sing the hymn to the emperor to interrupt.

> After talking to Confessor Adalbert, you get a dialogue option to preach a sermon and get +3 on any of the 3 convictions,

Thank you, I haven't done a Priest yet so this must be unique to that origin. I'll add it.

> I just reached sermon on Kiava gamma and wanted to mention that Pasqal will interrupt the sermon himself so probably you need to leave him on you ship to listen to it for heretical points.

Thank you for the input. There are a lot of conditionals in the game and it's hard to catch all of them.

> So, will you include the points for the Lex imperials dlc too?

I've finished 1 run on Lex so far so I'll put in the ones that I've found (starting on that now) and will add more on additional runs.

With Lex added there are definitely more than enough to go around (I have 720/135/80 on that run, so 345 more than necessary to hit 5/2/2) so this guide will be less necessary as they continue to add content.

On Voidship Shrine: If you have priest background, there is a unique event talking to the shrine priest to give a sermon, with Dogmatic, Iconoclast, and Heretical options. I believe the points given are 3 to 5, unsure off the top of my head.

So, will you include the points for the Lex imperials dlc too?

Can't really edit my post so sorry for doublepost but i realised i can pull back to voidship and return without Pasqal to confirm it and it works but it require rank 1 heretical (follower) not 2.

I just reached sermon on Kiava gamma and wanted to mention that Pasqal will interrupt the sermon himself so probably you need to leave him on you ship to listen to it for heretical points.

Hey, looks like you missed one you can get in the void shrine in Chapter 1 (not sure if you can get later, but just discovered it). After talking to Confessor Adalbert, you get a dialogue option to preach a sermon and get +3 on any of the 3 convictions, HOWEVER, I believe you have to have the priest origin as this is my first playthrough as a priest and Ive never got this dialogue option before. Hope this helps

Alright, updates have been made. I updated most of the +20 segments from chapter 4 to be +30 (the ones in the Void Shadows DLC areas did not change, they are still +20 in game). Colony development that unlocks at rank 4 grants 40 now rather than 20, colony development that unlocks at rank 2 grants 30 instead of 15.

I ran into the Einrich one on my last playthrough, I'll update the chart a bit. I have some updated values to put in as well since they bumped up the late game numbers from 20 to 30 in most places.

The heretic option at the confessional seems to be flavor, you come back later and the guy is traumatized.

I'll look into the thing about replacing the confessor with Kasaballica.

For the Commorragh sacrifice, looks like that's the ? that I have as a placeholder. I did that on my last run so I'll grab the description out of the biography on that save file.

Thanks for the info.
