Guide to Mine Production
By Dovahseod
A list of all elements available on each planet's mines, their rarity, base time per unit resource (base time), value, and value per unit time (V/T) as calculated.

The elements with the highest value, V/T or per-mine value during period of time (V/20m, V/90m and V/480m, see section Value Produced over a Time Period for details) will be listed for each mine at each depth level.

This guide will be updated as the game receive updates that alter the value of resources or related game mechanics.

Note 1: As the planets and elements are discovered along the progress of the story, this guide may be considered to contain spoilers. The guide is split into sections based on the resources available to each tier, aiming to minimize the impact for one reading from top to bottom.

Note 2: Values are rounded half to even[en.wikipedia.org] to the nearest 0.01 wherever rounding is applied in text, and values are rounded half-up to the nearest 0.0001 wherever rounding is applied in the spreadsheet screenshots.

Note 3: The deepest y level an ore can be obtained from is omitted from the descriptions for brevity's sake, as this guide is focused on producing income with the mines. You may consult the periodic table in-game to acquire this information.

Resource Rarity
Rarity of an element determine their drop chance and the speed a mine output a unit of resource.

An element of rarity 1 is the base drop when mining an ore. If the ore also produce other elements, then the other elements will be of rarity 2 or above and have a drop rate of rarity cubed over one, rounded to the nearest 0.01%. The drop rate is subtracted from the base resource's drop rate. A tile of ore may drop multiple units of resources, and the drop rate of each resource is the chance that the resource is the one received at each drop.

The base time it takes for a mine to produce a unit of resource is 20 seconds times rarity cubed. The value of a unit of rare resource is its ore's base drop value times rarity squared.
For example:
Magnesium ore also drops calcium with rarity 2. Magnesium has a value of 144.

Rarity 2 is a drop rate of 1/8 or 12.50%, therefore the drop rate for calcium and magnesium are 1/8 = 12.50% and (100% - 12.50%) = 87.50%, respectively.

The base time for calcium would be 20s * 2³ = 160s, and the value would be 144 * 2² = 576.

The drop rate, base timer per unit resource and value multiplier of each rarity is shown in the table below.

Note: Drop rate of an element and drop rate as an upgradable skill refer to different things. The former never change and refers to the chance of receiving this resource when receiving a unit of resource from mining a tile of ore, while increasing the latter means receiving more resource per mined tile of ore.
Mine Speed and Storage Capacity
Each element has a certain base time per unit of resource, determined its rarity, calculated as 20 seconds times rarity cubed, as mentioned in the previous section.

By having multiple mines on one planet, you can reduce the time it takes each unit of resource to be produced (time per unit resource), which is calculated as base time divided by amount of mines.
For example:
7 mines are active on a planet and producing a resource with rarity 2.

The base time of rarity 2 is 160s, so it will take 160/7 ≈ 22.86s to produce a unit of resource.

The capacity of a planet is calculated as the amount of mines times 10, therefore a planet's storage will always get filled in roughly 10 times the base time per unit of resource.

Note that the game progress a constant amount of time per frame rendered based on your fps setting, therefore the fps the game actually runs at will affect the speed the mines run at in terms of real-world time.

Due to the limitation of storage capacity, it is worth considering the total production of a resource in a given period of time, as generally it is not practical to collect mined resources every 3 minutes. The effect of collection period on mine production will be further discussed in the next section.
Value Produced over a Time Period
In general, mines produce the most value per unit time through rarity 1 resources from the deepest level available at the moment, but rarity 1 resources fill up the storage in only 3 minutes 20 seconds. Therefore, it is also worth evaluating resources by actual value produced over a given time period, in addition to V/T which is short-term value produced, and value which affects total value produced over a long enough period without intervention.

For the sake of brevity, the per-mine value produced over a collection period of 20 minutes (= 1200s) typical for a mining trip, 1.5 hours (= 90 minutes = 5,400s) typical for AFK mine farming, and 8 hours (= 480m = 28,800s) typical for overnight AFK respectively will be calculated for each resource, and the best resource in term of each metric as available in different depths reached will be listed for each stage of game progression.

Produced per-mine value over period time for each time period are denoted as V/20m, V/90m and V/480m respectively.

Note that the actual per-mine value produced over one given time period will still be dependent on the amount of mines available, as you produce integer amounts of resources, and no value is actually produced until the unit of resource has finished producing. The more mines you have, the less time it takes for each unit of resource to produce, and the less the difference between the average per-mine value over period time and the actual per-mine value over period time.

(Author's comment: I don't think t he game is balanced around AFKing all night for in-game currency, to be honest.)

Restarting Maps
Restarting a map does not reset the amount of mines active on the map. The maximum amount of mines you have ever built and powered up on a map is the amount of mines in operation on that map.
For example:
3 out of 6 mines have been unlocked on a map, and you decide to restart the map.

As you unlock up to the 3rd mine on the restarted map, the map will contribute 3 mines to the planet's total, in terms of storage capacity and mine production.

After you unlock the 4th mine on the restarted map, the map will start contributing 4 mines to the planet's total.
