Challenges are where to test your skills and unlock rewards. There are the challenges based on the core gameplay of Mandrillia and there is also a firing range with its own set of target shooting based challenges.

Both of these challenge modes offer up rewards for every challenge. Usually a skin or cosmetic item, but it can also include a weapon unlock or achievement.


The Match Based challenges are a mix of single player "SOLO" (VR only) and VR + PC "COOP" matches. They can provide a way to learn the game with progressive difficulty and also offer up some unique game play gimmicks to keep things fresh.


The Firing Range challenges are target shooting challenges with time limits where you are awarded a score on completion. These challenges have associated steam leaderboards for scores, where you can see your personal best along with the top 10 scores for each challenge.

There are 7 solo challenges available. The difficulty ranges from easy to extreme. I will go through some general tips and good practice that should help with all the challenges, then I will detail tips i think are more specific to each one. Hopefully this guide helps you to complete them. Good Luck!

(Listed in order of difficulty)

The information applies to multiple challenges.

• Be stealthy and avoid making noise so you are not easily discovered and forced into fights
  
• Mandrillian peripheral vision is poor, often they haven't spotted you even when quite near. try not to give yourself away, hide behind barrels or if in doubt cloak
  
• its smart to use cloak to get out of situations where you would have to waste a lot of ammo
  
• Mandrillians will always check the last place they heard a noise made and sometimes do a random attack there, best move away from a spot you made noise
  
• Keep an eye on the Multitool Motion tracker when progressing through the facility, it could alert you the mandrillians are near.
  
• Use map stations to keep track of the Mandrillians. You can also see the spread of Insectoids
  
• By priming all the consoles with a key card, you can move between them and make quicker progress, while giving the Mandrillians the run around.
  
• It can be smart when you have opened a gate not to go inside immediately (if you don't need to), you can leave the enemy waiting at the gate while you are off busy opening another.
  
• Picking up a weapon adapts the loot pool. If you really don't intend to use that weapon don't pick it up as from then on you will then get some of an ammo you don't need and less of the ammo you do need in ammo boxes.
  
• Avoid hunkering down, The Mandrillians will know where to find you and it will only deplete your resources.
  
• Glow sticks distract the bugs, light it up and throw it, nice to save for the elevator escape
  
• You can kill bugs with your hands to save ammo, it is safer to do this while cloaked.
  
• Pipes attached to walls around the facility can be ripped off and used as a strong melee weapon.
  
• Remember to use the turret and yellow crate in security room. turrets are good distractions
  
• If you are low on battery you can always head back to a charging station, the big gate ones are the safest, just make sure you aren't followed in by the enemy, use one you have not recently used as it will be on cool down.
  
• Look out for Repair-kits, Overclocks and glow sticks on corpses.
  
• Repair-kits are generally scarce, remember to check for one in the vending machine
  
• Saving a poison grenade or two for the very end can be a lifesaver because it will clear up any annoying Insectoids with you on the elevator
  

DIFFICULTY - Easy

Challenge Specific Tips and Info

A good starting point to the challenges as its currently the easiest solo mission.

• Extra magenta key cards spawn + are shown on your Multi Tool so use this to locate them
  
• You don't need to be stingy with resources like batteries and ammo, they will be easy to find.
  
• You have a little bit of extra health, so a small amount of leeway if you forget to heal quickly

Challenge Specific Tips and Info
Uh-oh! TWO Mandrillians!. Definitely a more intimidating challenge.

• Keep on the move, and keep away from those Mandrillians as best as possible.
  
• While stealth is the best option, loot is abundant here, so you can afford to fight the Mandrillians off with force when necessary.
  
• By priming all the consoles with a key card, you can move between them and make quicker progress, while giving the Mandrillians the run around.

Challenge Specific Tips and Info

This one is interesting. LOTS of bugs here. The mandrillian is also infected and it has a habit of exploding into a gang of angry bugs. They will beeline for you, so make good use of that flamethrower when you see the signs. Tougher than the previous Medium challenge.

• Make use of the additional inventory slots given
  
• Extra repair kits, glow sticks and flamer tanks in this mode, make use of them.
  
• Extra magenta key cards spawn so it shouldn't be quite as hard to find them
  
• Flame thrower is strong against bugs, when a bug is on fire it cannot attack before it dies
  
• Bugs die quickly to gas. keep a gas grenade handy.
  
• Avoid or escape bugs with cloak and by not running (it makes noise they track)
  
• You can slap and kill the bugs with your hands, can also be done while cloaked, very useful.
  
• If you blow a monkey up it kills it and all the bugs inside of it
  
• If a Mandrillian is about to explode into bugs, run or be ready with the flame thrower or cloak yourself for safety.
  
• Remember to use the turret and yellow crate in security room
  
• A turret is also always next to the CEO door, unlock it before using all the yellow cards on the exit console, it is a good distraction
  
• Glow sticks distract the bugs, light it up and throw it , nice to save for the elevator escape

Challenge Specific Tips and Info

This one is interesting, You will need to build up your resources before taking on the Mandrillian, if you chip away at him too slowly he will very likely just go and heal to full health.

Challenge Specific Tips and Info
This might take a few attempts. Its tough. Good luck!

• Complete the other challenges first, this one is the hardest, you will need skills and patience
  
• Glow sticks distract the bugs, light it up and throw it , nice to save for the elevator escape
  
• Repair-kits are scarce, remember to check for one in the vending machine
  
• Expect to have to deal with Mandrillians with upgrades more often here.
  
• Saving a poison grenade for the very end can be a lifesaver because it will clear up any annoying Insectoids with you on the elevator
  

There are 6 coop challenges available. The difficulty ranges from medium to extreme. I will go through general tips and good practice that apply to most challenges, then will just detail whats unique for each one.

The information here currently applies to most coop challenges.

• Playing with 2 x Player Drones should make these challenges easier since the difficulty does not scale.
  
• Drones can be damaged (require repairs or fires put out) but they can never be killed.
  
• Stick together, its easier as a team to fight of the enemy.
  
• Play smart, play stealthy. Make less noise, attract less heat. Fights deplete your resources and makes things harder. When you haven't been found the team should walk the facility rather than run.
  
• Drones can switch off the torch and can crouch which makes them less visible to enemies. They will still get spotted if they get too close.
  
• The vocalisation button (A) is a noise that will attract enemies. Can be used as a distraction.
  
• Be careful Robot while cloaking. Your drone buddies cannot see you, so let them know when and where you are cloaked as they might shoot you accidentally if enemies are near.
  
• Green boxes may also contain Drone specific ammo and rockets.
  
• You don't need to wait till the drones hull is completely damaged. It can be useful to calibrate and top up when you are under less pressure.
  
• You can use Repair-kits on drones, it can boost the drones to 140% but it ticks back down fast.
  
• Remind drones to use gas missiles to give you good blocking cover, useful while unlocking big gates or at the elevator escape at exit. Firing one below a vent forces the AI to re-route.
  
• Using gas grenades is equally useful for robot for the same reasons above.
  
• When you make it into a big gate, have a good look for resources inside, there will always be at least some Drone ammo.
  
• Make use of turrets on the map if you can. Its a good distraction or defensive aid.
  
• When you get as far as the robot stepping onto the elevator to complete the last puzzle. The drones should stand guard and hold the line below the gate, using whatever means necessary to protect the robot. Flame thrower, gas grenades anything to prevent the robot death.
  
• Unfortunately you cannot operate the inclinator with your drone friends onboard, only the robot can escape the facility.

Challenge Specific Tips and Info

• This is the introductory Coop challenge you should start with. You fight less Mandrillian's (at once) with a slightly more relaxed wave spawn rate.
  
• You can find the 3 purple key cards first and insert them into each gate console, this gives you more freedom to hop from console to console unlocking them while giving the AI the runaround.
  
• The security room is well worth visiting for the Plasma Rifle once you have a yellow key card.
  
• The following crates are not randomised.

You can't hide here, you just have to shoot and scavenge your way to victory, keep those drones in good nick and loaded with ammo.

• You get a full minute head start on the mandrillians. make the most of this
  
• Make use of the additional inventory slots given
  
• Grab a Yellow key card from waste or warehouse area early when under less stress.
  
• Grab the Flame thrower out the first big crate early, its very strong against bugs, when a bug is on fire it cannot attack before it dies
  
• Extra repair kits, glow sticks and flamer tanks in this mode, make use of them.
  
• Bugs die quickly to gas. keep a gas grenade handy. And get the drones using theirs.
  
• A turret is always located in security room and another at the CEO door at exit.
  
• Ditch the LMG when its out of ammo are there are no LMG ammo spawns in this mode.
  
• You have extended inventory in this mode.

There are 6 challenges in the Firing Range available. These challenges are mostly self explanatory but i will list the challenges and rewards. I can give some very basic tips here that might help. These can only be played solo.

Good Luck!

• The body critical hit zones are bigger than the head, you can double tap those with more consistency than headshots, so it can work out faster.
  
• Aim more for body shots if you want to finish the challenge
  
• Aim for more headshots if you are aiming for a higher score
  
• It helps to memorise the positions of the target spawns, sometimes one spawns behind another and so you can take out 2 quickly without repositioning your gun.
  
• Look for the flow between rounds to minimize arm swings
  
• If you swap out a mag before the ammo is fully depleted you will not need to rack the slide before shooting, this also leaves you with an extra round in the chamber which can make the difference.

• This is the best challenge to start with, its fairly lenient with the timer compared to the the rest. you should complete this with plenty of time to spare.
  
• The torch can be slightly useful to assist aim.
  

REWARD - Bandolier

• A big step up from the last challenge, you must be quite fast.
  
• The torch can be slightly useful to assist aim.
  
• You can get away with single handing this weapon which i found easier.
  
  
  

REWARD - Soldiers Helmet

Challenge Specific Tips and Info

• Use the Laser Pointer of the gun to assist with aim.
  
• Remember you have a fire selector you can change. Single fire can help when going for head shots and helps conserve ammo for other targets (if you are being accurate)
  
• Using burst fire for the long range targets and aiming a little below centre mass often results in 1-burst kills saving precious time.
  
  

REWARD - Hunters Hat

• The sight is very useful here, the markers on it allow you to judge the distances far more easily.
  
• There should be some spare time to complete this compared to other challenges so will be able to miss a bunch.
  
• Reloading the crossbow quickly might take a bit of practice.

REWARD - Cowboy Hat

• if i miss a shot and i know there is only one or two targets in the round left i just reload the bullets i need as there is plenty time to reload all 6 bullets while the drones refresh between rounds.
  

REWARD - Outlaw Mask

• This is the shortest challenge which can be completed in under 4 seconds. Time is not an issue here.
  
• You only have 3 bullets in the plasma pistol but you have 6 targets to hit. You need to perform split shots consecutively and you can't afford to miss a single shot.
  
• The coin flashes once when in the air, this is when its hitbox is Largest. Learn to time your shot well.
  
• Can take a bit of practice.
  
• place the coins in the inventory slots wherever feels most comfortable to reach them.
