Change Settings
Try to lower the graphics settings, as the default ones might not be optimal for your desired FPS rate.

Check drivers
  • Intel i9 processors have flaws that might crash the game. Make sure that your processor has the BIOS updated HOW[www.intel.com]

  • The newest graphic card drivers are required. Run your system updates.
Check the hardware
  • even with low settings, the game requires a modern, high-performance Graphic card due to millions of polygons being displayed when the map is zoomed out.

  • make sure the power supply is connected to your laptop - otherwise while using the battery, the system will most likely switch to power saving mode and integrated graphic card.

  • make sure you play with “maximum performance” and not “power saving” Windows features.

Check your C: drive
We have identified that the game may crash if there is insufficient free space on the C: drive. This is because the game requires enough space for temporary files and system operations during gameplay.

Free up disk space. The game requires freeing at least 1 GB on your C: drive for map downloads, autosaves, logs, screenshots etc.
Get extra space by deleting unnecessary files, clearing temporary files, or moving large files to another drive. Otherwise, the game won't start.

Avoid extensive usage of the hard drive while playing - copying or downloading large files in the background might crash the game too.

Restart your main GPU
If you have a decent graphics card, but the game's performance is way below expectations, try restarting your main GPU. Go the the Device Manager, right-click on your GPU under the "Display adapters" section, and click on the "Disable device" on the list. After that right-click on your GPU once again and click the "Enable device". This action is reported to solve the issue in some cases.

Increase available virtual memory
The instruction on how to manage virtual memory on Windows 11 is available HERE[www.windowscentral.com]:

For Infection Free Zone, we recommend at least 8 GB of VIRTUAL RAM.

You can also adjust the virtual memory (paging file) settings to improve system performance, though clearing disk space is the most effective solution.
Select a different map
Once you select a map, the total number of buildings there is displayed. 5,000 is a lot, and 10,000 might be unplayable. Select a map with a lower number of map buildings for better performance.

Avoid middle-zoom out
The game might lag a bit more when the camera is scrolled away, while the buildings are still displayed. Go close or go to the overview (press M).

Limit the number of workers
Every worker has its own AI and pathfinding, which require computation. The more workers you have, the lower the performance will be.
Please avoid any tricks to increase the number of workers above the limit of 800.

Got a GeForce RTX 2060 too and it sits at 80% usage... even with fresh start with minimum population on a map that has only 500 buildings...

I never had issues until this latest update, now my gpu (GeForce RTX 2060) sits at 80% usage even with the graphics set to medium. I've had much larger settlements in much more densely populated maps in prior updates and never had issues.

yall keep crying, i am playing on a integrated 2mb gpu (radion)(my card went poof sadly). Granted, tiss not the best setup, but having 32gig ddr4 gaming ram and the game installed on my ssd drive does work and ive not ONCE had major laggage issues.
Stop blaming devs for poor cpu builds and spend sum cash to up your rig. If however your game crashes and no other game crashes, make sure bout your MS Frameworks ect ect.
Personally, i love the game and the work the devs put into it.
Make sure the fault not on your end before blaming game

This guide did nothing to fix my constant freezing every 3 seconds. Game is unplayable.

Maybe we should find a way to improve this even further. Perhaps by lowering the quality of the buildings? I wonder how we can reduce lag when simulating, for example, one million people at once.
