Introduction
Hi, I'm Azathoth, and today (or tonight) Ill be teaching you the basics of the game. Please keep in mind, that I, myself, am fairly new to this game to and so I may misunderstand somethings or just down-right get them wrong, so if i make any mistakes dont be afraid to let me know either in the comments or in DMsm and ill be sure to fix it!

Thanks and good luck, this is my first time doing a long guide like this, so i hope you enjoy!
The Basic Mechanics
Stats:

All of your stats can be monitored by checking your watch. You can open the watch by pressing the [H] key on your keyboard. Its a good idea to check your watch every 5(ish) minutes or so to make sure all of your stats are good. The main stats you need to worry about are as follows:

Health: Your Overall HP. Can be replenished by having high hunger and thirst, or by drinking almond water
Heart Rate: How fast your sanity will drain. Can be lowered by walking and avoiding jumping, but make sure not to stay in the same place for too long as it will lower your sanity.
Thirst and Hunger: Will affect sanity and speed depending on how high or low. Thirst can be increased by drinking water and almond water and hunger can be increased by drinking almond water and (I believe) Soda
Distance: Shows, in meters, how far you've gone. This one is pretty self explanitory.

Crafting:

To craft you need to have the two items youd like to combine in your inventory at the same time. For the example, ill be teaching you how to craft, what will likely be your first item, the Wooden Handle. To craft the wooden handle you will need only to items; a Box Cutter, which you can find randomly on the floor of Level 0, and a Wooden Stixk, which you can obtain by breaking a chair. Once you have these two items in your inventory, you will want to open your inventory, drag the box cutter to the wooden stick, et voila; you have crafted your first item. There are a few more things you can craft but for most of them youll really just need a box cutter and parts from the chair.

Sanity:

This is affected by your stats. The lower it gets, the darker your screen gets and the less you can see. Your player will also get slower over time. To restore sanity, keep your stat high and dont stay in one spot for too long but also dont let your heart rate get too high! You can also use almond water and soda to restore your sanity!

Skills and No-Clipping:

To No-Clip (switch between levels), you must upgrade your player. This can be done by gaining points and spending them in the skill tree (accesed by pressing the [J] key). To get points you can find anomalys (Weird bodies, shakey floor hands, etc) and examining them. Another way to gain points is (correct me in the comments if im wrong) killing entities that you find.

Objects (and how to use them)
Consumables:
Water Bottles:
These are very basic. You can find 2 in the very start of the game, and each one has around ~16 uses each. They dont refill hunger but theyre very good for thirst, especially if you plan on running alot. The arent super common in Level 0, but they can be found occasionally. I suggest taking 1 of the 2 water bottles in the bedroom at the start.
Soda:
Can be used to replensished a small amount of sanity and hunger. Greatly increases your stamina, and because of this, if you have soda, Id recommend using it if you plan on running alot.
Almond Water:
Ah, good old almond water. A backrooms classic. This is the best way to increase your stamina and hunger. It increases both hunger and thirst by a decent amount and greatly recovers sanity. Use this in a pinch. While being the second rarest of the items, its definitely the best to have on you, so save it. Especially if you plan on going to level 1.

----Disclaimer----
Steam was being a butthead so all of the images for this part of the section are in the google doc linked below. Thanks :3

Weapons:
Screwdriver:
This is definitely the first weapon youll get but its the weakest and will probably be ditched as soon as you get an axe, and the only "battle" itll be in will be that battle with the first chair you break. But with that being said, if you do decide to use it in a fight, for whatever reason, id suggest running and getting as many hits as quick as possibly without getting hit. This really goes for every weapon but especially the screwdriver with emphasis on the many. The screwdriver (if i remember correctly) deals ~ 12 damage
Wooden Axe:
This is the strongest weapon but its got the lowest durability. It deals ~17 damage (if I remember that right) and has a durability of ~50 uses
Wooden Hammer:
This one deals ~15 damage, but has a couple hundred uses. The downside with it is its the slowest. if you need to preserve space and just want a permanent weapon, this is what i'd personally suggest using.

Crafting Materials/Tools:
Box Cutter:
You need this to make wooden crafting parts out of parts of a chair
Wooden Stick:
You'll need this to make the wooden handle, which youll need for the axe and the hammer
Chair Base:
Used to make wooden blade heads (Hammer and Axe Heads)

Other:
Flashlight:
Okay, do I even need to explain what this does? No? I figured not. Either way, if it runs out of charges combine it with a battery in your inventory to recharge it. You can find these most often on the floor of the vine(y) areas of level 0. they are mostly everywhere though.
Battery:
Used to recharge the flashlight
Rope, Tape, and Wood Scraps:
I have not found the purpose yet for this(these) item(s) but if you know please dm me and i will update this guide
Tips
  • Don't use Almond Water right away, save it!

  • Entities are rare in the first two levels, but that doesn't mean they don't exist! If you see one be careful as they are strong and if you're unprepared they could pose a big threat or even kill you!

  • If you are planning on going to Level 1, save atleast a water bottle, and if you can, some almond water. You can be stuck in that level for a while and it doesnt have any item spawns in it aside from wood and chairs. (You can't eat or drink wood!)

Have fun and ask me or others if you have any questions!

So i got a couple of questions: What to do when theres a Blackout? Havent found a flashlight yet. How to actually break chairs? It says to jump on in or hit it but both doesnt seem to do anything. And how to get xp / clip into the next stages.
