Overview

NPC'S or Non Playing Characters was introduced in patch 0.04.9 Update (August 2023) and involves rescuing up to 5 survivors from Bandit Camps to come and work for you. They can be assigned various tasks depending on what support buildings you have built and if equipped with a suitable weapon will assist in defending your base on Horde Night.

You have to construct the NPC Control Centre (NPC CC) first and then NPC'S will spawn in selected Bandit Camps.

Rescue the NPC by normally clearing out the camp and unlocking the cell they are in and then just talk to them.

They will then appear wandering around the NPC Control Centre ready to be assigned weapons and work details in the NPC CC Management UI. (A Whiteboard inside).

They will appear on the list in order of being rescued.

NPC's are only available on PVE game saves and in MP/Coop only one NPC Control Centre can be built.

The main interface inside and to the right is a whiteboard used for managing the Npc's and what resources to collect. The NPC CC needs to be connected to both a water and power supply to function and each Npc needs a House to gain their full productivity. All support buildings must be within a 20 square foundation radius of the NPC CC to work.

Main Interface
The default view when accessing the UI and from here it displays the information of services connected, the amount of Beds(Houses), the amount of Npc's rescued, the preference of which resource to focus on and where to equip weapons.

The Npc's seem to be immortal and will not die and also do not require ammunition.

Rescue
It's easier to clear the Bandit Camp first then unlock the Detention Cell door but not essential to do so. The door is a skill level of 1 or use a sledgehammer to break it down.

Once the NPC is talked to, a message will appear confirming rescue and an audible "Thank You" will be heard.

INTRO TEXT-
How did we get here? No-one seems to really know, A virus outbreak from an experimental lab? A mutation of the common cold perhaps? Or some people even say Aliens brought it to us to claim Earth. All we know is millions died over that last year and everyday is a struggle for survival. We hunt, scavenge and fight against the zombies and bandits to keep going. Although there a few traders out there it’s seems like.....No One Survived......

TEXT- Spawn with Starter kit.
They got in..... one by one your comrades were killed, either shot dead or gravely wounded and probably left to get infected and turn.... You managed to grab some items whilst others held the raiders off long enough for you to make it clear of the bunker. You ran and ran until you came upon a trader in the distance, now to rebuild and take revenge for the fallen.

Text- No Kit.
They got in..... no one saw it coming and after the main explosion, shots rang out and people started dying. You tried to hold them off to let some escape but when your gun clicked empty suddenly the world went black as you fell down.
You find yourself left for dead, dumped outside and stripped of all possessions except the burning desire for revenge as you make your way to survive then rebuild....

Necessary Game Changes-

• One Bunker as is it is now with some loot and zombies there (to represent the old home that got raided at the start). The other is the raiders HQ which is the end game boss level to storm and clear it to “finish” game.

• Make Npc’s able to join you in a team (Party Based System) so you can click on them to do orders (Attack/Defend or Follow/Stay or Work Job (whatever they are assigned in NPC control room)/Relax or Go to WP (either in game or on map)/Return home (go to house) (Design 1).

• You can also click on them to equip and arm them in a basic inventory (Design 2).

• Change the tech tree so the Npc buildings are only unlocked once an Npc is rescued. (Design 3) and further unlocks as more Npc’s are rescued.

Game = Survive/Build/Repel Hordes then the end game is to successfully storm the Raiders HQ.

Design 2

With the new NPC system they can die if reach zero health but respawn at the House after 24hrs or 6 hrs if player has a Medical Room. They will get hungry and thirsty and if not given refreshment they will return to the House for 12hrs or 1 hr if have a Canteen. If Mood falls then they will be reluctant to fight and just follow and if it reaches the red they will go home for 24 hrs or 6 hrs if have players have a Recreation Room built.

They can be equipped with a bag and given things to carry but if encumbered they remain stationary and after 1 hr drop the bag and return home. They can be given clothing and armour in the relevant spots and 2 weapons and a med kit.
