How to get your controller to work with UFO 50.
This is simple and should work with most games on Steam (unless they are emulated through DOSBox or similar):

1. Right click on the game in Steam and select "Properties".
2. Go down to the "Controller" tab.
3. Change the settings from "use default settings" to "Enable Steam input".
4. Enjoy the game.

Steamdeck:
If you can't get your Steam Deck controls to work then do a hard reset and relaunch the game after rebooting.

If it still doesn't work the game might've designated the Steam Deck as player 2. Switch the controls to player 1 and rebind the keys in the game settings if needed, then close and relaunch the game.

If it still doesn't work you might have to rebind the keys in Steam controller configuration tool found in "Properties > Controller > Controller configurator."

Non-supported games:
For non-supported games (e.g: non-Steam games, very old games, emulators, or if you experience any other detection/connectivity issues) you can can use either DS4Windows or DualsenseX:

Just wanted to add a comment for when anyone finds that their controller won't reconnect properly when they take a break mid-game and the controller turns off from inactivity. For me, the controller will reconnect and operate the UFO50 pause menu, but won't be able to interact with the game itself.

Ok literally as I was writing this, my roommate discovered the solution to the above problem. We have 200+ hours in this game and we JUST figured this out lmfao.

1. Turn your controller on
2. Confirm that it does operate the UFO50 pause menu
3. Enter controller settings
4. I think the second option? is gamepad assignment. Press A on that and a prompt will come up saying "Press a button on the controller to assign Player 1".
5. Press a button on your controller

I couldn't say what worked for me, but after the latest update of UFO50, I was unable to play the game because my controls were designated to Player 2. It was probably coincidence that the update happened though, since I had also just played the Steam Deck using a bluetooth controller and Dock earlier and that was also the first time I did that.

I did the first step and enabled steam input, nothing changed so I did a full "Shutdown" of the Deck, it applied a Steam update, and then UFO50 correctly assigned the controller to Player 1 like it used to.
