New to the game?
Lets get you up to speed.

You're a gravedigger, hired by the reverend of a local church. In order to get paid, you must dig up the graves behind said church and loot them. You're required to dig 3 graves per night, and whatever valuables you may find must be placed in a box on top of the altar: the reverend will handle the selling part, and you'll receive your money the very next day. If you find anything "interesting", the reverend asks that you place it atop the alter...

Whether you decide to comply or not.. is up to you.
Gameplay Basics (Gravedigging)
The first thing you wanna do is grab your shovel, whether its your second and twenty-second time playing, you'll be frustrated if you walk all the way to a grave only to turn around and go back for your shovel (I've already done this several times).

The sticky note on the cemetery chart shows generally what to expect from a grave (AKA how wealthy the person was). This Isn't guaranteed though; "poor" graves can still yield higher value/more items and "rich" graves can yield lower value/less items.

Speaking of the cemetery chart, it can also contain some useful information, such as where certain graves are located and who they belong to. Later in the game, if you don't have dowsing rods, but you do have the chalkboard, it may help you in identifying which graves are hosts to burnt bones.

Once you decide which grave to loot, you're going to head out to said grave, and left-click on the tombstone to dig up the casket.
Then you're going to want to left-click the handle to drag the casket out of the ground.

Bring it back to the double doors of the church and it will automatically be hoisted up onto the table. You're then going to grab the crowbar from the counter and left-click where it prompts you to in order to position/use the crowbar.

If the casket door doesn't pop open on its own, simply left-click to open it.

Now you're ready to loot! Left-click on anything of value; necklaces, rings, and bracelets. The total you receive from that specific casket will be tallied up on the bottom right.

Sometimes caskets have hidden compartments on the bottom (near the feet). You can use lockpicks to open these: you get one for free but after that you have to purchase them via Parapantry.

When you've collected all their valuables, close the casket door, go around the casket to the opposite side of where you were just standing to loot and left-click on that side of the coffin to put it back on the trolley.

Bring the casket back to the grave, and once its back in the ground, left-click the tombstone to re-bury it.

Now you're ready to do it again!
Gameplay Basics (Corruption & Sanity)
Throughout the game, the demon will attempt to grow in power and "open the door". You can slow this down by placing crucifixes in each room (1 per room), keep in mind that they are good for 2 uses before they break: once they do, the room is no longer protected until you replace the corresponding crucifix. This leaves it vulnerable to corruption.

You can spot corruption by red markings on walls and demonic whispering can be heard near the corruption site (if the corruption has progressed, it will look like a giant black smudge - cleanse it ASAP).

Cleansing corruption takes one full-health crucifix, regardless of progression state. This makes letting them appear a costly mistake, as said crucifix will disappear after use. To cleanse, simply hold a crucifix near the corruption: the screen will turn yellow and the markings will disappear.

If you fail to cleanse corruption (ignore it), your sanity will drain rapidly and you'll be swiftly game-ended. If you also take too many nights to achieve an ending, you're sanity will drain to this point regardless.

Your sanity can be measured by the painting in the hallway, closed door being max sanity and as it decreases, the door will open and slowly reveal the demon.
Gameplay Basics (Parapantry)

The Parapantry is the site in which you'll be ordering your equipment.

As stated above: your parcels will arrive just outside the red door at the end of the hallway.

ENDING 1 *SPOILERS*

The first ending is the "Reverend Blackwell Ending". This is achieved by finding all the burnt bones (6 total) and placing them upon the altar.

This ending is straight-forward and achieved by playing as normally, and placing the "interesting objects" on the mat atop the alter (next to where you deposit the valuables).

ENDING SUMMARY:
While you sleep, Blackwell will come into your room and give you both the good and bad news.
ENDING 2 *SPOILERS*

This is best achieved after ending 1: "Reverend Blackwell Ending".

The second ending is the "Demonic Ending". This is achieved by placing all the burnt bones (6 total) in the crypt outside the church graveyard.

Take the key left on the desk in the guest bedroom, it opens the gate at the very back of the cemetery.

Walk through the forest until you reach a second, grown over graveyard: at the end you'll see a mausoleum. Enter and place the bones upon the catafalque.

ENDING SUMMARY:
The demon will come, and what we can only assume is possession, occurs.
Everytime your heart beats, you'll see red. You'll enter through the side door, and exact revenge on an unsuspecting Blackwell.
JOSEPH'S ENDING *TBD*
Joseph's ending has yet to be released, expected in the next update.
There will be 2 variations of this ending.

I'm assuming it will have something to do with this locked entrance!

If you have any other information or speculations on this ending, I'd love to know!
Gameplay Tips
THESE ARE JUST A FEW TIPS I USE TO HELP MYSELF PERSONALLY WHILE PLAYING: you definitely don't have to follow these yourself!
  • No matter the difficulty, I always try to take care of my crucifix situation first: the harder the difficulty, the less crucifixes you get to start! (You also make less money while equipment costs more).
I'll spend the first night digging up "high value" graves, I'm not 100% sure but I speculate that your first bone is guaranteed anyway. (?)

I then purchase as many crucifixes as I need, and I always try to keep 2 extra at the start of every night (trying to avoid the immediate delivery fees, or risking leaving corruption as I sleep). I even achieved the "Frugal" achievement while still doing this on normal difficulty. If I cannot afford other things on higher difficulties, I go without. I use the OP dowsing rods + chalkboard combo (lol) and only buy crucifix otherwise.

  • SPEAKING OF WHICH! Using both the dowsing rods and chalkboard at the same time will guarantee you're OUTTA THERE by day 6-7! They make finding burnt bones so straight forward and easy; the only downside is you can only rely on them once a night, which is okay! You're not in any danger until you start going nights without finding any bones.

(Use the chalkboard to get letters that are somewhere within the deceased's name, and the dowsing rods to find the section where they lay).

  • My favourite QOL tip: a fast way to take corners without losing the speed of being on the walkway!

Your walk-speed is dependent on what surface the casket is on: if its on the grass, you're MEGA slow.. but on the walkway? Much more digestible.

It may take a bit of practice, but once you get it down I promise you wont regret it:

You're gonna wanna get the casket "stuck" by placing it as shown in the pic, and then hugging the outside part of the decorative fence (?) or just follow the "player" line. Dont worry: the casket will snap back in front of you!

If done correctly you won't lose any momentum or speed on your turns!

IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER TIPS NOT LISTED - I'D LOVE TO KNOW! :)

The dousing rods only show you the general area of the casket with the burnt bone, when they make an X it means you're standing in the correct section.

How do the dousing rods work? Is it dig when they make an X?
