Bust of Ivan Likhachev ZiL

The statue of Ivan Alekseevich Likhachev. It is located in Moscow, in front of the second checkpoint of the ZIL plant.

It was established in 1958 in honor of the director, who in 13 years turned a modest Italian fiat assembly company into one of the largest Soviet auto giants. From an annual production of 326 cars in 1926 to 65 cars per DAY by 1934.
During the Great Patriotic War, he managed to evacuate the plant as soon as possible and expand production at five enterprises beyond the Urals.
In 1950, he left the car factory, this time for good. Having taken over the Moscow Machine-Building Plant, Likhachev adjusted its work in three years, after which he again found himself in the minister's chair, this time heading the Ministry of Motor Transport and Highways.

Doctors strongly advised him to slow down, as the transferred loads made themselves felt. He promised, but secretly from the doctors he was returning to his old way of life.

He died nine days after his 60th birthday - Likhachev completely worked out the gasoline of vitality. Soon the ZiS (Завод имени Сталина) was renamed in his honor (ZiL).

Unfortunately, by 2013, his creation had stopped working, and by 2024 all production areas were demolished for the construction of residential complexes and offices. And the lone bust remained in its former place, obscuring the little that remained of the once largest auto giant...
