Basic Info (Obvious Stuff)

(Info Might be outdated by the time you are reading this, Just keep that in mind.)

Get the weapon you want to unlock skins for as early in the game as possible.
Guns in your secondary slot don't gain xp passively from kills with your first slot weapon.
The tier of your weapon doesn't give bonus xp (From what I can tell), buying the upgrade from the super charge doesn't give xp either.
Shooting Dolls Won't give xp, even if you shoot all of them with your weapon of choice
Higher Difficulties give more xp, Nightmare is gives double the amount of beginner/Normal. Play on whichever you are most comfortable with.
The points the pop up when you kill an enemy is the same amount of xp you gain for your weapon, the +90, +100, and +115. With the Tier two Cyhyraenth Miracle "Five Finger Discount" The bonus points added are also added to you weapon xp. On Nightmare these are doubled for your weapon xp, so +100 would be 200 xp, and Hard gives a 50% bonus +100 = 150 weapon xp.

Things that you might think should give weapon xp but don't (Avoid using these)

Firebombs
Quick Melee
Damage done/Applied by drinking from the Elixir (Fire Elixir & Poison Elixir)
Kills from Fire & Poison DOT applied by anything other then the gun.
Kills from Cailleach's Tier two Miracle "Slice and Dice"
Taranis. His general buffs are fine but the damage dealing ones don't give xp (Lightning Fire does work but Lightning Vengeance, and Thunder in Paradise do not)
Picking up Power up drops like Max Ammo, Infinite Ammo, Etc. Don't give xp on pick up. However, Triple points does triple weapon xp gain from kills. (Yes, the Nightmare doubling does effect this as well.)
Completing Story/Hidden Story Missions With the weapon equipped
The death of a mini boss (Abomination, Issac, Etc.) won't give xp unless a bullet from the gun is what kills it.
(Untested) Kills from Blazeslingers explosions, I'd avoid killing them in the middle of a crowd when possible. Not sure if the xp counts for your gun or not. Even if it did it would only count as the base 90 xp so head shots are still preferred.
Reviving Teammates. (Untested but Why would it?)

Things the do give weapon xp

Killing things with the gun. (Shocking, I know.)
Ultimate, Not sure why in some cases but it does.
Shock N Load Damage
Kills from Draig's "Fire Strike" and Nuckelavee's "Poison Fire" Miracles Damage over time effects Do give xp but only the base 90 so up to you if you want to use them. (Fire stab & poison stab if you are leveling melee weapons)
Mini Boss Kills give the full 1000+ xp but only when the gun is the last thing that damaged it. (Fire Strike & Poison Fire count as your gun)

Best way to Grind

Play on Normal probably, so the later rounds don't take forever but you still get faster spawns than beginner or easy?
Go for head shots as much as possible
(Optional) Only use the weapon you want skins for the whole game, this just let's you track how much xp you've gotten through the scoreboard
Get the tier two miracle "Five Finger Discount" For Cyhyraeth (I suggest getting "Fast Hands" from Goon Brenn Too, Just to make weapons cheaper to upgrade at the Super Charger)
Super Charger your weapons whenever you can, to have more ammo in stock/ the other bonuses each weapon gets as it upgrades.
grab Triple points as fast as you can and shoot as many things as you can, buying ammo isn't that bad so go wild.

I didn't test the best places for fast enemy spawns so Good luck.

Last Bit

Multiplayer testing is hard with randoms so I have no idea how things function there. Do kill assists count towards the weapon you damaged them with? No idea
Bonus Objectives like stopping the abomination from spawning and such, Not a clue. I don't think it counts as weapon xp, but killing the Abomination does so let them spawn but stop the Enhancements? Make your own choice for those.
If you want the achievement for getting a weapon skin level 4 it's not the level 4 weapon skin it's the fourth skin for the weapon so you have to get the gun or melee to level 5. It's worded weirdly but yeah
