Glossary
Common Terms
Ace
Someone who died during the explosion of the City of Numbers who has been brought back to fight for humanity in Towerborne. Gifted with unique strength and the ability to wield Ebb-charged gear, Aces serve as humanity’s best hope against the chaos of the Wilds.

Aspect
Crystallized formations of Mirus (spirit energy) that can be slotted into weapons and armor to provide powerful enhancements. Though fragile in raw form, Aspects are incredibly potent when used by Aces. Blaise is uniquely able to work with Aspects directly at the Forge.

Beastkin
Feral, humanoid monsters that share traits with specific animals. Beastkin are vicious, territorial, and increasingly common throughout the Wilds, especially following the collapse of the City of Numbers. They show little intelligence beyond instinct, driven by aggression and survival.

The Belfry
The towering home base for Aces and refugees. Although the owner of the Belfry is away, it has grown into a hub of hope and resistance, bringing together survivors from across Eld. Here, Aces train, investigate what happened to the City of Numbers, and continue to protect the refugees heading for safety. Also referred to as the Tower.

Numbers Ironworks
The Ironworks in the City of Numbers was unrivaled – built by Bumble to provide a forge worthy of such a city. Hammers could be heard crafting anything from the mundane and practical to delicate and fanciful. Fortunately Bumble had already set up a specialized forge on the Belfry before the fall of the City of Numbers.

The Chorum
The ruling council of the Belfry. Led by Wolfram and composed of key figures from across the Tower’s different factions, the Chorum governs day-to-day decisions and long-term strategy for the survival of those within its walls.

City of Numbers
The largest and most technologically advanced city in Eld before its destruction. It was the center of human civilization, culture, and mystech innovation. Now a ruin, it serves as a constant reminder of what was lost.

Currency
Towerborne features multiple in-game currencies, including Gold, Curios, and Writs. These are used for trading, upgrading, and unlocking gear, items, or cosmetics. (Details pending final naming conventions.)

Dusker
Duskers are hostile spirits—often armored and armed—that roam the Ruins, attacking the living on sight.

The Ebb
Often described as dreamlike and otherworldly, the Ebb exists alongside the Shore and has recently begun to bleed into the physical world, with boundaries weakening. Inhabitants of the Ebb are called Echoes.

The Foongo
A gentle race of mushroom-like beings who once peacefully lived in the Fungi Forest. Many Foongo have recently transformed into violent Mushboom, corrupted by exposure to tainted Mirus.

Gobo
Common enemies in Towerborne, Gobos are lizard-like goblinoids born from Ebb-changed animals. They are primitive but dangerous in groups, scavenging weapons and building crude settlements from human ruins.

Madpole
Frog-like beastkin known for their long jumps and swift attacks. Madpole are corrupted tribbets that use their strong legs and claws to strike from a distance.

Mirus
The essence of spirit energy, drawn from the Ebb. It powers everything from mystech devices to Umbra abilities. Mirus can solidify into Aspects in high concentrations.

Mudboots
The backbone of the Belfry. These hardworking citizens are farmers, engineers, crafters, and builders who keep the Tower functioning by growing food, repairing systems, and maintaining morale.

Mystake
A Mystweaver who has abandoned the Chorum’s teachings and now channels spirit energy directly through their body—often at great personal cost. Mystakes are dangerous and unstable, and known individuals include the Seamstress, the Shepherd, and the Stonecutter.

Mystech
The technology created by Mystweavers that uses Mirus as a power source. Devices like pylons, lamps, weapons, and more are powered by mystech. It’s a bridge between the Shore and the Ebb, harnessed for human survival.

Mystech Pylons
Large, Mirus-powered generators once used to form energy barriers around human cities. These force fields protected humans from monsters, but the pylons were destroyed in the fall of Numbers, leaving survivors vulnerable.

Northerners
One of the three primary human cultures. Northerners live in cold climates, often high above the ground to avoid monsters. They’re renowned for their blacksmithing skills and tough survivalist mentality.

Numberians
Citizens of the fallen City of Numbers. Many hold onto the belief that the city can one day be restored. Numberians are pragmatic and innovative, shaped by the technological legacy of their former home.

Oasa
A culture known for its desert homeland, passion for storytelling, music, and cuisine. The Oasa bring vibrance and celebration to the otherwise bleak world of Towerborne, and are key allies within the Belfry.

Pangor
Burrowing, armored creatures resembling massive pangolins. Pangors roll at high speeds and attack with powerful claws. Some have grown more dangerous due to exposure to corrupted Mirus.

Pangojira
A mutated boss-level Pangor empowered by extreme Mirus exposure. Pangojira can summon allies, hurl boulders, and emit shockwaves. Its appearance marks a turning point in any expedition into the Wilds.

The Shore
The physical realm of existence in Towerborne, where humans, animals, and monsters reside. It exists parallel to the Ebb, separated by a fragile boundary known as the Veil.

Smear
These oozing threats are especially common in the City of Numbers, leaving toxic sludge in their wake.

Tramblers
Wanderers who live outside of formal settlements, disconnected from factions or major cities. Tramblers often survive on their own or in small groups, neither allies nor enemies by default. Cautious, capable, and unpredictable.

Truffleclub
A towering fungal boss monster with crushing strength. Truffleclub can burrow, leap, slam the ground with spiked fists, and summon Mushboom from the skies. A true test of an Ace’s skill.

Umbra
Mystical beings from the Ebb that embody natural forces, concepts, and emotions. They may choose to aid Aces by lending their powers, offering wisdom, or simply observing. Umbra vary widely in form and temperament.

The Veil
The invisible boundary that separates the Shore from the Ebb. Once thick and impassable, the Veil is now thinning, allowing for increasing crossover between realms—and growing danger.

The Wilds
An untamed expanse where monsters roam, Umbra rule, and humans struggle to survive. The Wilds encompass all biomes outside of protected settlements, and represent both opportunity and peril for Aces brave enough to explore them.

Classes
all class image
Each class has unique talents that can be expanded by equipping weapons with different styles.

sentinel image

Sentinel

The Sentinel Class provides a versatile playstyle allowing for both offensive and defensive play pairing Sword and Shield.

By utilizing the weapon's unique ability to block and parry incoming attacks they can build Valor and amplify their combat abilities even farther.

Pyroclast image

Pyroclast

Pyroclasts use their mighty Warclub to smash and burn enemies with flame blasts.

This powerful class has the unique ability called Sear, which ignites the warclub with a flame that makes all attacks Burn for a limited time.

Overview
The pyroclast specializes in in slow, high damage attacks, as well as their trademark burning status effect, with very few fast attacks which deal minimal damage. Their attacks often cover large areas and are useful for crowd control, whether it be staggering with fire combos, or juggling with launcher combos. The best way to play pyroclast is to not be afraid to take a little damage swinging so long as you catch enemies in your attacks.

The pyroclast is also my favorite class, I just love fire - ShadowDragon

Burning
The Burn status effect deals ~15% of your damage per tick, lasting for ~4 seconds.

Combos
The pyroclast has multiple combos utilizing alternating heavy and light attacks to perform Burning attacks, inflicting stacks of burn.

Your combos are as follows:
  • Light Combo: L1 --> L2 --> L3
L1 is a quick jab, dealing minimal damage and having a small AoE. It is mainly useful for finishing off low health enemies quickly.
L2 is the same as L1, dealing only slightly more damage.
L3 is a fast, sweeping attack dealing around two to three times the damage as L1 and L2. It seems to have about the same hitbox as L1 and L2.

  • Heavy Combo: H1 --> H2 --> H3
H1 is a sweeping attack, going from the top of the screen to the bottom. It deals around the damage of an L3 and has a larger AoE.
H2 is similar to H1, only dealing slightly more damage, and going from bottom to top.
H3 is a launcher attack, throwing enemies into the air and knocking them back moderately. It deals around 50% more damage than H2 and has a similar AoE.
Note that none of these attacks will break the guard of a shielded enemy.

  • Launcher Combo: Hn --> HL / Ln --> LL
LL will launch an enemy up into the air, dealing comparable damage to L3.
HL will launch an enemy into the air, dealing more damage than H3, and if an enemy has their shield raised, it will break their guard and stun them, but not launch.
Note "n" is any number of attacks performed before the launcher attack, the minimum being one, where you hold the attack button and perform one attack of that kind automatically before performing a launcher attack.
A launcher attack is performed by simply holding down the light or heavy attack button.
Launcher attacks will launch an enemy into the air, where they are rendered unable to attack.
Note that gravity will gradually increase for enemies held in the air, so they will drop sooner or later.
Launcher attacks can be continually performed however, allowing you keep enemies in the air longer.
Also note that bosses, and enemies with their shield up are immune to being launched.

    Light Launcher Combo

    Heavy Launcher Combo

  • Fire Combo: H1 --> L1 --> L2 --> L3
H1 is the standard H1 heavy attack, it merely starts the combo.
L1 is the first fire attack, it inflicts a stack of burn as well as being an AoE attack. It has the longest range of all of the burn attacks. It hits enemies vertically similar to H1.
L2 is the second fire attack, it has a shorter range than L1, and does comparable damage to it as well.
L3 is the third fire attack, it has a shorter range than L2, but deals more damage than both. It also breaks block and stuns shielded enemies.
Note that any heavy attack, so long as it is at most the second heavy attack in the combo, can lead into the fire combo. This includes the crusher heavies, dodge heavy attack, and regular heavy attack.

  • Fire Launcher Combo: LL --> H1
LL is the same as usual, it launches enemies into the air.
H1 causes you to step forward, then angle your club into the air and launch fire directly upwards in a conical area. It inflicts a stack of burn, and pushes enemies upwards allowing them to be juggled longer. Its damage is a bit less than a light combo's L3.

  • Overhead Combo: L1 --> H1 --> H2 --> H3
L1 is the standard light combo L1.
H1 is an overhead crushing attack, that has about the AoE of a normal heavy attack and deals a bit more damage than a standard H2.
H2 is the same as H1, but deals comparable damage to a standard H3 attack.
H3 has you leap into the air, do a spin, and bring your club crashing down on to the enemy's head. It deals more damage than a standard H3, and breaks block and stuns shielded enemies.

  • Dodge Combo: Dodge --> L1/H1
L1 is a swift kick, dealing a bit more damage than a standard L2 attack. It has comparable AoE and speed to a standard L2 attack as well.
H1 is the same as crusher H3, including the block break, but deals marginally less damage.
Both L1 and H1 can lead into other combos, with H1 notably being able to lead directly into a heavy launcher attack without needing the standard heavy combo H1, though it will only do so if you hit an enemy.

    Light Dodge Combo

    Heavy Dodge Combo

Rockbreaker image

Rockbreaker

Rockbreakers battle their foes head on using Gauntlets on their fists with a mix of fast strikes, big sweeping attacks, and extraordinary Focus Skills.

This class can help take down even the biggest of enemies by carefully charging up its most devastating ability, Powderkeg Punch.

Shadowstriker image

Shadowstriker

Shadowstrikers are swift and agile fighters that can unleash a flurry of attacks with sharp Dual Daggers, without being seen.

Their unique Shadow Feint ability allows this class to fade in and out of battle with ease.

Bosses
One thing I've noticed that I haven't seen posted anywhere is how Boss Venture drops work. I have seen posted that Yxil's Domain can drop everything. This is not completely accurate.
There is one Boss venture for every Danger Level after Danger Level 1. Each Boss Venture can drop the set associated with the ventures in its Danger Level with the exception of Dimcap which can also drop Brute's Legacy from DL1 Snaggleshire.

**Dimcap:**
- Brute's Legacy (Snaggleshire)
- Ratkin's Legacy (Rakentague)

**Yxil's Domain:**
- Trambler's Legacy (Moldenweald)
- Striker's Legacy (Backhills)
- Stoutswine's Legacy (Orind Field)
- Wildling's Legacy (Hasaljaran) (I might be wrong about this one. Hasaljaran might be DL4)

**Hollowgrass Steppes:**
- Technician's Legacy (Broken Mystech Pylon)
- Operative's Legacy (The Stepstone Gate)
- Oasin's Legacy (Artisan Avenue)

It's worth noting that the boss ventures also drop a unique weapon set (Fungal for Dimcap, Spinesteel for Yxil's Domain, and Hardscale for Hollowgrass Steppes), and they cannot drop the unique "set" weapons from their associated ventures. (e.g. You cannot get Operative's Daggers from Hollowgrass Steppes)
<LordOfDuh>

  • Boss Name - Creature Type (Terrain Tile) <Venture Tile> - attack pattern - notable threat/dangers (poisonm, etc) - Strategy
Umbras
  • Iska - Type - (Belfry) - Iska is your starting umbra. Their ability fires a ranged projectile that knocks back and staggers enemies, dealing decent damage.
  • Papyprus - Type - (Southeast of the Belfry, south of Backhills) - Papyrus is unlocked by beating the discovery tile they're on. Their tile has the lightning modifier, which causes lightning strikes. Papyrus's ability summons a lightning strike, with each strike stacking a debuff called mark. Mark stacks up to two times, and an enemy hit with full stacks of mark by a lightning strike takes increased damage and is launched.

  • McKraken - Type - (location) - text

  • Sten - Type - (North of the Belfry, west of Lichenfell Copse) - Sten is obtained by solving a puzzle on their map tile. Sten's ability summons a stationary orb, which lasts for eight seconds. The orb staggers and damages all enemies touching it, including bosses.
    Puzzle hints:
Hint 1: The flowers seem important.
Hint 2: Have you tried counting them?
Hint 3: Pet them in order of flowers least to greatest.

Will progress be reset during Early Access?
The game will have a number of FULL WIPES, one of which will happen at the transition from Early Access to the Free launch! Please understand that this is important as we implement new and updated systems and improve the content and progression of Towerborne. We want to be able to let you have fun and break things without worrying too much. This will not impact Founder’s Pack exclusive items.

Why will the game be Free to Play?
From our initial concept pitch years ago, we designed Towerborne to be free-to-play and committed to players that the only thing you’ll ever pay for — if you choose — will be cosmetic items and convenience features ... never power progression. We intend to keep our game fair and fun – and delight you with what we build to heighten your experience.

Our Founder's Packs are consistent with this intent. Anyone who joins early by purchasing an exclusive Founder's Pack won’t just be investing in helping us build the game—you’ll also be guaranteed cross-progression, so you can keep all your items across platforms as we continue to grow.

Can I upgrade from Silver to Gold?
You can upgrade from Silver Founder's Pack to Gold Founder's Pack on Steam.

Please note that the monthly bonuses are only available during the month they are offered, and no retroactive bonuses will be issued.

Will Founders Pack items remain exclusive?
Yes, all items included in the Founder's Pack will remain exclusive to those who purchase them during the Early Access period. These items, like cosmetics, emotes, and other special rewards, are our way of thanking our early supporters, and they’ll stay with your account for the life of the game.

The "Founder's Exclusive" items, such as the Longship Cosmetic Set and Valhalla Iska Umbra Skin, will not be available again after Early Access ends. While we’re on Steam, you’ll be able to purchase the Founder’s Packs, but once Early Access ends, those exclusive items won’t be available anymore.

The Monthly Founder Bonus and Monthly Premium Founder Bonus, which provide rewards during Early Access, could show up again in the future.

Will there be couch co-op?
There will be couch co-op on the Xbox when we release.

We are working hard on bringing the couch co-op experience to PC and Steam, but we do not yet have an ETA to share on when it will be available.

Will there be Cross-progression?
Towerborne supports cross-platform progression. This means that your progress will carry over when the game launches on other platforms. This means that your progress will carry over no matter the platform, ensuring a seamless experience. However, during Early Access, players should expect a minimum of TWO (2) full progress wipes. While progression will be reset, ALL exclusive Founders Pack items and ANY COSMETICS you purchase, or are granted, will carry over.

How long in Early Access?
We’ll stay in Early Access as long as necessary to gather feedback, make improvements, and ensure the game is fully polished. We expect players to enjoy dozens of hours of gameplay from the start, with more content being added throughout Early Access. Our goal is to launch the full version when it's ready, based on player feedback.

When is it coming to Xbox?
Towerborne will be coming to Xbox Game Preview on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Game Pass in early 2025.

Is Steam Deck Supported?
Steam Deck is not officially supported at this time.

However, some players have reported being able to play on their device. From their reports, you might experience a black screen at startup. Pressing A rapidly often resolves this. Please note, this is not officially supported, so your success rate may vary.

Can I play Solo?
Absolutely! Towerborne is designed to let you play solo. All missions are solo-friendly, with enemy difficulty scaling with more players.

Can I play Offline?
Towerborne requires an internet connection. The game is designed to be played online at all times, including solo mode.

Can I play with friends?
You can team up with friends by sending them a party invite from the social menu in the game. Once in the same group, you can take on missions together.

Founders Packs: How do I claim my Exclusive items?
You can claim your Founders Pack items by going to the Belfry in-game, opening the Store menu, selecting the items, and hitting “Claim.”

Monthly Bonus: Do I need to claim the Monthly Founders rewards each month?
Yes, you need to log in each month to claim the rewards. Once a month is over, unclaimed rewards will no longer be available. Items that are granted as a Monthly Founder's Bonus may appear again in the future in the store for purchase, but will not be granted again for free.

Full Wipes: Will progress be reset during Early Access? What happens to my stuff?
Yes, there will be a minimum of TWO (2) full progress wipes during Early Access. However, ALL exclusive Founders Pack items and ANY COSMETICS you purchase, or are granted, will carry over.

What about Cosmetic items I've received from Ogden's Cache, or Cosmetic items I've purchased with Writs? Will those be wiped?
Absolutely not. As stated above, ANY cosmetics, emotes, or stickers you have received will never be wiped from your account if we need to do a progression wipe.

Cross-progression: If I play on Steam now, can I transfer to other platforms later?
Yes, Towerborne supports cross-platform progression. This means that your progress will carry over when the game launches on other platforms.

Localization: When will my language be supported?
More languages will be added over time, though we can’t provide specific timelines yet. We're committed to broadening language support as we grow.

What is a Curio?
A Curio is like a digital chest that contains various items. A Curio Core is the key you need to access the items inside that chest. Related, Writs are the in-game currency you earn from playing (through daily job quests and ventures) that allows you to fully unlock the items in a Curio.

Do Curios expire?
Once you obtain a Curio, you keep the ability to purchase its items forever. However, if you miss the chance to get a particular Curio, it might take a long time to come back—or the items could become available only through the premium store. As a reminder, there are two types:

Free Curios: These may include things like Dust, which is currency used for upgrading weapons;

Premium Curios: These require a Curio Core (a premium item) to unlock, but they will never include anything that affects player progression.
