There are no official records that shed light on the origins of the ships occasionally found in the outlying regions of Outer Planets Consolidation and within their immediate neighbors. The first official statement mentioning such a ship came at the height of the fighting in Burton's Cluster, when one of the ghost ships was wrecked in a collision with an unknown vessel that was never identified. In that statement, a CDF spokesperson noted that the Lancer-class vessel was destroyed and the entire crew was killed.

Independent analysts speculate that these ships, most likely produced in secret CDF shipyards, are ships of the Consolidation's special intelligence service. Rumors about the existence of such an organization began to circulate at the time of the formation of the OPC. According to them, the Council created a special unit to identify and eliminate existential threats to Consolidation, which operates separately from the main structures and reports exclusively to the Council.

The first reliable data on the Lancer ships did not emerge until near the end of the war between Consolidation and Aenum Republic, when one of the ships was heavily damaged and the crew likely died before it could activate its self-destruct. An analysis of the ship, released by Aenum Space Forces, revealed that the ships are designed to be operated by a minimal crew, have all sorts of equipment on board for extended autonomous operation, and involve the use of a small shuttle - SVAP (stands for Scout Vehicle Armored Personal), likely for stealthy infiltration into protected territory.

So far, Consolidation has not given answers to questions about the Lancer, and the shipyards are silent about strange orders for certain parts of the ships
