If you get the "General Protection Error History:" window simultaneously with a crash on launch, it may be due to reshade mods.
Specifically (for me) the Realistic reshade mod from Nexus mods (https://www.nexusmods.com/rainbowsixvegas2/mods/8), or the Ultimate mod bundle from Sir barren and PkmnYellow (https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2751815668). I'm not sure what causes this, im just imagining it requires certain .DLL files you do not have.

Either way, you'll want to head to the Microsoft download center and download the dx9 runtime library: DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010). https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109. and extract it somewhere then install, the game will lag at the start but is running fine for me after doing this.

Oh wow, and you were having a crash on launch? Wild stuff. I guess Microsoft eventually phased out those dependencies in one of their updates.

I went ahead and added this guide as a solution to Vegas 2 crashing under 'Known Issues'. :)

Sorry for the late reply, i have a evga 3080ti, ryzen 5800x, 64gb ddr4 ram at 3200mhz, 2tb western digital black edition m.2 and a aorus gaming master x570 mobo.

Out of curiosity, what PC specs did you have for this error? Was it a low-end laptop or desktop?

Interesting. So after installing this dependency, Realistic Reshade started to work for your Vegas 2? If that's the case, I'll probably note this in my guide under known issues, with some credit of course. :)

The most testing I've done for this error had to do with the Reshade mod and laptops with integrated GPUs (since it always threw this error at startup). I never resolved it.
