Overview
Controllers 
1. Plug in your controller and press some buttons so that Steam registers it 
2. Right click Faaast Penguin in your Library, go to Manage and click Controller layout 
3. Click Enable Steam Input 
4. It works!

I have only tested this with my Playstation 4 Dualshock using a USB cable, but I would think it will work with PS5, Switch and other controllers too.

I have not tried on Bluetooth.

The game has Playstation button prompts. If it shows up as 'ABXY', you can manually change it in the settings

For those on DS4Windows with a Dualshock 4, Xbox (Xinput emulation) mode works with this game. Change the controller icon type in the game settings to get the Playstation icons

This better work with Gamecube controllers too.
