👋Let me help you!
❓What's this guide about? Will it help me?
Want to upload a banana to the Banana workshop? Then yes, this guide will help you.
  • Upon attempting to upload my first couple of bananas, I found it difficult figuring out how to do it effectively without hassles, so I worked it out for myself.

  • There is literally no thorough guide on how to do it, so here we are!

  • This brought the idea to create a guide for those in the same situation. I would like to help you and I want to encourage any potential creativity being used!

〚 Sidenote 〛
Guide does not include how to become an official workshop creator through the banking details process, varies a lot by region and will require own research.
Step 1 - Make your Banana
📥Download Banana Image
If you would like to have the edges of your banana exactly the same as the original Banana, then you can download it here:
◢ The Original Banana: ◣

◢ The Original Banana - Grey: ◣
I use the grey banana if I want to create a banana with it's own unique design but still wanting the shading of the main Banana.

⊡ Creating a Banana Image (Still)
Once you've downloaded the template, I recommend making a pattern or design and then either overlaying to the Banana, or use a 'blend' mode in your editor, that'll have it turn out looking pretty realistic with the shading.

Make sure that the format of your image is in PNG. This will help in the uploading process.

⊡ Creating a Banana GIF (Not Still)
If you create a moving banana, so a video/GIF, remember that you would like the video to NOT be too long as converting it to GIF and compressing it to fit the upload limit will be very difficult.
This will lead us to the next main point of the guide.

Make sure that the format of your image is in GIF. This will help in the uploading process.

⊡ File Converting
The accepted file types for the upload through the Banana game, is PNG and GIF. So a pretty nifty tool I use throughout this process is a file converter, I can recommend this website:
https://www.online-convert.com/
This comes in handy if say for instance your Banana export is in JPEG but should be PNG, or you render a video as MP4, so should convert it to GIF.
Step 2 - File Size
There are two parts to the right file size for upload:
1. File Size: First Upload - In Banana

Whether that is a PNG or GIF, make sure it is 1MB or less. If it is over 1MB, it will give you an error.
This is the thumbnail for the item, once in the Workshop.
The first upload is when you'll go into the game Banana, and upload a Banana to the workshop.
The max file size for this step is 1MB.

2. File Size: Second Upload - In Steam
Once the banana is uploaded from the first part, you will have the chance to upload more media for the item in Steam.
Whether that is a PNG or GIF, make sure it is 2MB or less.
The max file size for this step is 2MB.

Here are some useful websites for file compression:

🔗Ezgif[ezgif.com]
This is the best website to compress a GIF. I recommend using either the Lossy GIF tool to downscale the quality, or Color Reduction if that isn't enough.

🔗CompressOrDie[compress-or-die.com]
This is another good website for GIF compression.

🔗Adobe MP4 to GIF Converter[www.adobe.com]
The reason I mention this website is because in the process of converting from MP4 to GIF, you can bring down the resolution if the file size ends up being too high.
