How To Fix Black Screen Bug || NMH1

When Loading No More Heroes 1 there is a chance that the game just doesn't work on your computer and will refuse to load Travis' Apartment, here's how you fix that.

Step 1. (2021)

The first step is going to require you to set your game back to the 2021 version.
1. Right Click No More Heroes
2. Properties...

3. Betas
4. Beta participation (2021)

This might outright fix your game, but if you're still running into bugs follow the next step.

Step 2. (Back To The Future)

1. From the "Betas" screen click into the "Installed" tab on the left (as seen below)

2. Brows local files and enter the STG folder

3. Copy "STG500US" to a safe location (by which I mean outside of the NMH folder, put it on your desktop, I'm not your dad)

4. Return to "none" in the "Betas" tab

5. Once the game is done "updating" drag the folder "STG500US" back into the STG folder

6. PLAY THE GAME FINALLY

Step 3. (Whine And Complain)

Sure, this fix is going to fix whatever's going on with Travis' apartment, but it could also break like 20 other things.
It shouldn't have to be up to some internet moron to bash his head against every file until he finds the right one to replace in order to fix a game breaking bug that effects a small amount of players. PLEASE email XSEED about this issue as this fix may not be comprehensive and a lot of people aren't going to want to time-travel to fix their game.
I hope this fixes your issue and if you're inspired to knock around the files yourself to find a better fix please leave it in the comments and I'll update the guide according to the latest information available. :)

UPDATE: Patch notes said this got fixed! Hooray! If the latest version still doesn't work for you you could still try this though.

This solves the black screen caused by switching the engine to Vulcan, too. Absolutely awesome find, and yeah, that seems so obvious, WHY did they break that file?

Yeah, it's the same fix, after you kill Death Metal it takes you back to the apartment which is the cause of the problem

I got a similar problem, after beating death metal, the game goes black screen once you get past the top 10 assassins scoreboard, does it fix that too ?

Quick update!! Just beat the game with the secret ending! wowee! Personal preference was to use this as a last resort, I stayed on the 2021 version of the game for almost all the open world stuff as for me this fix caused the game to roll a dice every time I entered or exited any building and would crash if it rolled a one or something but the 2021 version has some crashes of its own that this fix was required for to get over.
*Also this "version" of the game makes the achievements actually work
