If the game crashes on Windows 10 or 11 upon level load [bug Fix]
By engie
TLDR: spent several hours trying to make the game launch on Windows 11, so decided to write a short guide.
You can try launching the game directly thru the .exe file (without the steam client) - if it doesn't solve the issue -> continue reading this tutorial.

- why play this old game?
You can STILL play this game for local couch 4 player versus mode (on the shared screen).

BUT:
* The game might crash on Windows 10 or 11 upon level load. (as was for me. so hence the tut on how I fixed it.)

* You likely wont be able to run this game on windows 7 anymore as steam dropped support for it -> you are forced to try to make it run on windows 10, 11. (Even tho this game might work buggy on Win 10, 11 because of how old it is.)
* This game wont get any updates so there wont be fix from the devs for any issues. <- this is a quote from the support's email reply. I'm not making this up.

Method A - start TR.exe once as an admin user:
1) go to the folder where the game is installed
2) and start the "TR.exe" as an admin once. (the game should launch successfully.)
3) Then start TR.exe without admin rights - And the game should still launch successfully. (start TR.exe. Dont use the play button on steam - as the game may crash upon loading).
Method B - use nolauncher.bat:
1) go to the folder where the game is installed
2) open "startup_config.cfg" with a notepad.
3) change the content of the file to:
# Config file for Engine Starter (default keys here are only for first game run) Fullscreen=1 Reset=1 Window.Height=1920 Window.Width=1080
4) and start the "nolauncher.bat".
The game should run with 1920x1080 resolution in the fullscreen. You can try other resolutions if you are feeling adventurous.
Method C - try compatibility modes for "TR.exe":
1) go to the folder where the game is installed
2) try changing compatibility modes for "TR.exe" for windows 7.
3) pray it works because probably it won't.
Method D - read readme.txt:
1) go to the folder where the game is installed
2) read readme.txt from the devs. As it contains some troubleshooting advises.

But obviously that readme is obsolete so it likely wont be of much help.
