thanks to these two following guides, I've used along the way

EtG Modding Guide [mtgmodders.gitbook.io]
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2948826726
Introduction
video version
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCIhF56vxdU
the setup takes place in the SteamDeck Destop Mode
which you can enter by click Steam button > Power > Switch to Desktop Mode

Install Enter the Gungeon
1/ Use Proton
to have the game in ".exe" version
I've tried install mod with the Linux version, but it's not working

in my opinion, any Proton version would do
in this guide, I will use Proton 9.0.2

open Steam > Enter the Gungeon > Properties > Compatibility > Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool

2/ Click install
install R2Modman
3/ Download the AppImage
from the ebkr/r2modmanPlus Github [github.com]
the latest version at the record time is 3.1.4.9 [github.com]

4/ Organize AppImage and make it executable
move the AppImage in "/home/deck/Applications/"

right click > Open Terminal Here > enter following commands
chmod u+x r2modman-3.1.49.AppImage ls -l

5/ Create a shortcut
this is my preference, not required

enable Show hidden files

download and put the icon image in "/home/deck/.local/share/icons/"

create the shortcut in "/home/deck/.local/share/applications/"

you can create the shortcut by right click
Create New > Link to Application
> in General tab; change name / insert an icon
> in Application tab; change name / browse AppImage location
> click Ok

right click on the shortcut > Open file Kate > add Categories=Game
result would look like this
[Desktop Entry] Categories=Game Comment[en_US]= Comment= Exec=/home/deck/Applications/r2modman-3.1.49.AppImage GenericName[en_US]= GenericName= Icon=/home/deck/.local/share/icons/r2modman.png MimeType= Name[en_US]=R2Modman AppImage Name=R2Modman AppImage Path= StartupNotify=true Terminal=false TerminalOptions= Type=Application X-KDE-SubstituteUID=false X-KDE-Username=

if done correctly, you would see the shortcut in Game section

Install and setup mods
6/ Open R2Modman

7/ Install at least these two mods
  • BepInExPack_EtG v5.4.2101 by BepInEx
  • Mod_the_Gungeon_API v1.8.4 by MtG_API

8/ Set Steam Launch Options
in R2Modman > Other > Settings > Set launch parameters
copy the parameter

open Steam > Enter the Gungeon > Properties > Launch Options
paste it here

(Important) 9/ Start game with R2Modman once
in R2Modman, click Start modded on the top left

after the game launched
if you see this screen, you've installed and enabled the mod.

10/ Now, you can start game on Steam as normal, enjoy
Miscellaneous
to bring up the console
bind a button to F2

to view real-time Steam log
you may open Steam via command line
open Terminal (Konsole) > enter "steam"

This actually worked. I was just missing the parameter in the launch options, but now it works perfectly,
