How to play Hogs of War on Win 10 - Colorized [August 2024]

The point of this guide is to provide another way on how to play this game on Win 10. With this method I manage to have normal audio, have videos and no missing textures or some other shenanigans.

If this do not work for you, I hope that some other guides will.

Shout out to Nicklander (YT) for creating a video about how to make this work. This guide could not be made without his video.

This guide could not be possible without Nicklanders video about making Hogs of War work on Win 10. All credits goes to him as most of the guide (except the last part) is based on his video.


Downloading and Installing the patch
Ok, let's start!

Step 1 - Download the patch

Download the patch from the link below:

NOTE: Make sure to remove the dot sign (.) from the word mediafire in the link and copy paste it in your browser. For some reason the link cannot be posted in this guide now without the dot.

Extract the file to the location of your liking.


Step 2 - Fixing the audio and video

All right, now install the _inmm238 application from the extract folder. This application is used to fix the audio and video of older game. The name is fishy but it works as expected ... if your expectations are good. Just hit next, next, next and you are good to go. The application will install itself in the Hogs of War folder.

You should have those files in the extract folder.


Step 3 - Installing the patch

Now copy all other files from the extract folder to the location where your game is installed. For me it was - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\HogsofWar

You are almost ready to go now!

Save the changes and now you are almost ready to go!

Highlighted in blue are the files you have to copy to the game folder.


Step 4 - Adjusting Windows compatibility

You are almost there! Now, go to the folder where the Hogs of War is installed. For me, that is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\HogsofWar and press Right click > Properties on warhogs.exe file.

Make sure to select Windows 98 under Compatibility mode in Compatibility tab (first red box). Then click on the Run the program as the administrator check box (second red box). Save the changes.

Making the game start from Steam

Now the easy part! Let's connect make sure Steam starts the new .exe file from the patch once you press PLAY. Otherwise game most likely will not start if you try to start the game from Steam normally.

Step 1: Right Click on the game in the library and press Properties.



Step 2: In the pop-up, under the General tab, write the following command in Launch Option

"FULL PATH TO GAME.EXE" %command%

Example: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\HogsofWar\warhogs.exe" %command%



And now when you press PLAY the game will start! Cheers!

Well, I tried this and the game wouldn't load and wouldn't connect to steam and then it completely screwed my laptop and I had to force a restart to fix it. Just a warning for anyone who wants to try this

Question though. Is there a way to have the main theme song play in the main menu? For me, the French theme song plays in the main menu and the main theme song for the French in-game. Thanks again!

Thanks for letting me know. I've updated the guide. For some reason the Steam does not like links to mediafire. In order for the link to appear in the guide I've just added the dot sign in the link. Make sure to delete it when copy-pasting this in the browser.
