rRadio: Internet Radio for Garry's Mod

rRadio is an internet radio addon for Garry's Mod that allows players to listen to thousands of live stations through in-game boomboxes and in their vehicles. The addon is intended for use by public servers, with a major focus on server-side optimisation, security, and multi-client synchronisation, though it remains fully compatible with singleplayer.

Opening the Menu:
- In a Vehicle: Press K (default key) to open the radio menu.
- Using a Boombox: Press E while looking at the boombox.

*Note: You can change the menu key via the settings menu.*

Changing Themes, Languages, and Other Options:
1. Hold Q to open the main menu.
2. Navigate to "Utilities" in the top right corner.
3. Select "settings" under the header "rlib" to access rRadio's client-side settings.

The Golden Boombox:
- Golden Boombox: Identical to the normal boombox but with a significantly larger sound range, typically sufficient to fill the entire map. This range is configurable for superadmins. For specifics, use `radio_help` in the console.
- Normal Boombox: Features a realistic and smaller sound range for immersive gameplay.


Q: How do I change the key to open the menu?
A: You can change the menu key by accessing the settings menu either within the Q menu (under "Utilities" > "rlib/Settings") or directly from the radio UI by clicking the settings icon.

Q: Why aren't some radio stations working?
A: The addon uses internet radio URLs, some of which may be outdated or temporarily unavailable. Additionally, you may be geo-locked based on your IP location. Please try using a different station.

Q: Could you add...?

Q: How do I add or remove radio stations?
A: Currently, rRadio comes with a curated list of stations. To add or remove stations, you'll need to modify the configuration files. Navigate to the `rRadio/config` folder in your addon directory and edit the `stations.lua` file. Please ensure you follow the correct format to avoid any issues.

Q: How does rRadio impact server performance?
A: The addon has been profiled and has a negligible impact on server resources and performance. It has been built with large, busy servers in mind, and can withstand dozens of simultaneous streams and users. Clients can also expect minimal impact and may disable all radio HUDs for further gains. If you encounter any performance issues, please let us know through the Bug Report discussion.

Q: Can I improve the localisation / language support?
A: Absolutely! Feel free to add me as a friend on Steam and leave a comment on my profile if you notice any issues with the existing translations where they may feel unnatural. I will gladly update them and add the relevant credits :)

Q: Can I contribute to the development of rRadio?
A: The addon was originally built from a point where I was completely inexperienced with glua, and the codebase is a mess. As such, development and contributions are currently on hold as I work towards a complete rewrite of the addon, maintaining all of the existing features, and building upon them with commonly requested additions such as custom radio stations. Once ready, the GitHub link will be available for any contributions :)
